Even since I got Minecraft, I've had this problem that I'd get ALOT of anxiety from playing on SP. My heart will beat really fast and I get too scared and quit, after 5 minutes of playing. I have no problems playing SMP with friends, though. Please help me!
I suggest getting rei's minimap and turning on the mob radar. It makes it impossible for creepers to sneak up on you. Also, build your house with lots of windows and a lookout tower. Just like that, your fears are gone.

Are youbored of minecraft? It's not the new features. I'll give you a hint:It's the terrain generation. Go play a map generated in 1.7.3 or earlier, then tell me you don't agree.
Guys, saying "That's pretty sad" isn't helping anyone and makes you look like a jerk. (I don't like swearing.)
Anyway, somebody recommended using a chat so you can talk to someone while you play. Another suggestion is using TMI so there's no fear of losing yours stuff, you can get it all back right away! It may help you ease in to survival.
I'm afraid of mobs, I'm afraid I'll die and loose all my items. And you hear scary noises too.
As long as you dont die in lava specifically, or too close to fire, you can always go back and get your stuff. It persists for, what, a good 5-7 minutes I believe?
Anyway I can understand the problem to an extent, a friend of mine has the same issue with some games; seems pretty random as to which. Minecraft though is not the sort of game designed around scaring the player.
Dont get me wrong, it'll occaisionally do a "jump out of your seat" sort of startling moment, like if I'm digging at a wall in a cave (not knowing there's another cave behind the wall), and I break a block and suddenly TWANG there's a Skeleton on the other side shooting arrows up my nose, hate when they do that. Creepers are good at that too. But that's really as bad as it gets. The "scary cave noises" actually mean there's an unlit cave area nearby (within 20 blocks, I think). Can be useful for finding hidden caverns.
Try to have powerful armor and enchanted weapons and healing items and stuff, and you'll be ready for anything.
Just put it on Easy to start with and jump right in! It'll go from freaky to fun before you know it.
It wouldn't be Minecraft if it didn't induce a little anxiety from time to time. I still jump a little when a creeper comes out of nowhere.
You may want to build yourself up to it. Start by playing on peaceful. Get your head around navigating in darkness. Start playing with the idea that you always need to watch you back. When you feel comfortable enough in the dark, switch to easy. Mobs are incredibly easy to kill on this setting.
Throw yourself in the deep end. One you get over that initial learning curve, you'll be in and out of dark caves like there's no tomorrow.
I have had a lot of anxiety problems in the past.
Some anxieties are crazy, like this one, but 100% real.
Some people can completely separate real stuff and not real stuff in their heads, and consequently don't get bothered by anything.
Other people, (like me and you), aren't that way, so oftentimes even simple, funny games like Minecraft can somehow get to us.
It could be the looming loneliness and vastness of the game , or maybe the dark caverns filled with creeping monsters that affects you.
Turn off the sound and music of your game, and blare your own music. Believe me, it completely changes the game in it's own sense.
Turn brightness to max, the caves won't be so dark and creepy anymore.
Play on peaceful, so you won't have to worry about any baddies.
You should get to know the game a bit more. Read the wiki. Learn mob behaviors and stuff like that. Listen to all the cave noises from http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Ambience so you know what to expect when you are near a cave (BTW cave noises mean NOTHING other than there is a dark area nearby).
A different approach would be to change gameplay until you are used to it. Play on peaceful for the first few nights. Use the toomanyitems mod if you feel a death was unfair and you want your items back. Remove the cave noises from the sound files. Listen to music while you play.
hey your not the only one bro, im scared of Single Player survival even on peaceful on easy i'm also scarred of endermen and in afriad that a is gonna blow to heck out of my house i wish i could play with . oh and when im in Multiplayer I am so brave that i go to the Nether and i fight and problay go to the End
