I've been watching some updated videos with the latest snapshots (watched MindCrack), and I'm actually kind of digging the new armor.
Just because it lets you really customize your look, and it's another reason to just use leather armor instead of iron. I think with the current system, that was a smart move.
Man, ever since Dinnerbone became part of the team, Minecraft has been moving towards the better stuff, at least compared to when Jeb and Notch were alone or together. Dinnerbone is really active compared to Jeb, so I might start following him instead of Jeb.
Also, I've come up with a brilliant idea to get Dinnerbone to see this post:
- Dinnerbone is subscribed to Etho, it's a fact by Etho and Dinnerbone.
- Etho reads all his comments.
- So if we get Etho to notice this post, and like it, then he will mention it in his video, and Dinnerbone will see it. - And like any faithful subscriber, he will check the link in the description.
- And then if Dinnerbone also likes the ideas here, he will implement some or all of them. As long as Jeb is OK with the idea. Jeb is really the biggest problem, he probably won't like to go through all this hassle.
Other than that idea, just spam Jeb's and Dinnerbone's Twitter, once a day.

Simple. lol. Like I said he reads every comment, just gotta convince him in the comment. Also every episode he chooses a comment and answers to it. So it shouldn't be hard for him to notice it.
I don't think Etho is the man you should be looking for. He is an inventor and engineer first and explorer and survivalist second. He doesn't play Minecraft for the interesting battles, but for the interesting technical quirks that he can use in his constructions.
This thread does contain many good ideas, but there are even more trash. I've suggested before that you try to organize this monstrosity into multiple threads that are more focused. Then you'll see how interesting each idea really are for other players.

True, true. But he still things Minecraft is too easy, the reason he only wears feather falling boots is because of the Ender Balls, other than that he never wears armor, unless he knows he's gonna need it. Like with the Wither and in the MindCrack server. So I thought Etho cause Dinnerbone watches him, and because Etho would probably agree with most of the points here.
If he isn't interested, then we should put stuff that would also interest him as an inventor and engineer.

Dinnerbone's also subscribed and does watch Vechz's videos, and Vechz would (I think) agree much more with many of the things planned, such as the monster changes. Maybe we should tell him something about this.
Okay, skeletons'll avoid them. I am working on skeletons breaking glass, but they just sorta walk over and hit it. Idk if you wanted to have them shoot glass or break it, but, well, there you go.
Ideally, Skeletons would shoot at the glass and the glass would shatter. However, they'd only do this if they detect a threat past the glass (AKA they see the player through the glass). It'd be a little silly if they just broke glass for the sake of breaking glass.
Zombie is I 'spose. The imp idea is good. But, I like the idea of a zombie that is so rage-mode that he just massacres everything. Especially if it's a rare spawn, adds to the fear. I'll remove the flint/steel, but not the massacre everything.
TAAAANK!
I like the idea of a bigger, bulkier zombie that tears the hell out of everything.
how can we balance water walking and boats? Should we make water slow you down or prevent sprinting?
Sprint prevention is probably the best option. It'd be useful, since boats aren't always accessible/practical, but wouldn't make boats useless, either.
have Endermen able to see you like normal mobs and attack you if you have diamond?
Endermen aren't present enough to really make that a proper balancing factor, to be honest. Besides, the weight system alone would balance out armors, and I wouldn't want to have diamond being annoying to use in such a way. Weight limitation is understandable, but imagine if you randomly started getting hit just for wearing diamond. Also, one has to think about how to go about this- do they attack you if you have ANY diamond, or just full diamond? If the former, it'd be pretty drastic to have people with just diamond boots to suddenly get attacked by Endermen. If the latter, people would just wear nearly full diamond, and then just have an iron helmet.
I've been watching some updated videos with the latest snapshots (watched MindCrack), and I'm actually kind of digging the new armor.
Just because it lets you really customize your look, and it's another reason to just use leather armor instead of iron. I think with the current system, that was a smart move.
Cosmetically, it's nice, but past that it's still not very useful. Leather still needs some advantages over iron.
Man, ever since Dinnerbone became part of the team, Minecraft has been moving towards the better stuff, at least compared to when Jeb and Notch were alone or together. Dinnerbone is really active compared to Jeb, so I might start following him instead of Jeb.
Yeah. It sorta pisses me off, because it kinda shows that Notch/Jeb are both rather lazy, but eh. At least work is getting done.
Also, I've come up with a brilliant idea to get Dinnerbone to see this post:

I'm not quite for the idea of harassing people about my thread. If they see it, awesome. But if we annoy people about it, they'd be more likely to turn away from it, or pre-emptively be angry about it and read it with a negative viewpoint (instead of with an open mind).
Other than that idea, just spam Jeb's and Dinnerbone's Twitter, once a day.
As with above, I'm not really for spamming them. I've contacted Dinnerbone on twitter, but no response. Either they don't want to read it, or they haven't seen it yet. In either case, we shouldn't force it down their throats.
So let me get this straight, an Enderman will either teleport away from you when looked at, or freezes you in place, basically meaning that you can't touch them. But in order to be able to free yourself of the curse, you need to kill it... which bearing in mind your above ideas, would basically become impossible. Repeat ad nauseum.
Sorry but that idea is so badly thought out.
The idea was that you'd need to indirectly harm it- water, lava, cacti, etc. Set up traps for it, and lead it into the trap somehow. Yes, he'd be impossible to kill directly, but that's kinda the point. It'd make them terrifying.
Alternatively, you can have a friend beat it up (if you're in multiplayer).
This thread does contain many good ideas, but there are even more trash. I've suggested before that you try to organize this monstrosity into multiple threads that are more focused. Then you'll see how interesting each idea really are for other players.
The reason I bundled all of it up is because the thread both highlights the most prominent problems with Minecraft in a single area (making it easy to reference), and then offers solutions for the problems- with the solutions being (mostly) cohesive. If I split it up into sections, it wouldn't be as easy to be like "Hey, look at this, it highlights the problems with Minecraft". Furthermore, it'd be annoying referring to multiple threads (thus essentially requiring people to read them anyway) due to the cohesive nature of the solutions. Or worse, gutting some of the ideas and lose out on them working together.
Sure, it's a lot to read, but people can read it in portions if it's so difficult.
I didn't read this one, but if it is a copypasta from the last one, then the only one I agree with is number 4. And THAT doesn't even matter, because everyone talks about how terrain generation needs to be better, not just you.
Mojang can't just adjust to one's needs. Those gameguides you were talking about that came with n64 games and whatnot? The wiki IS the gameguide. A short tutorial could be added (like in mcx360), but most people who buy Minecraft don't BLINDLY buy it. They have seen videos. They know the basics of what to do.
All in all, most of your ideas are ideas that other people have as well, or that can be fixed with mods. Alot of things you mentioned don't even need to be added. Minecraft isn't an RPG, we don't need 20 different weapons.

It's not a copy of the last thread. I re-wrote it entirely, and expanded on my points.
Those gameguides you were talking about that came with n64 games and whatnot? The wiki IS the gameguide.
Hardly. Instruction books didn't give insanely detailed information, and mostly just gave you controls and such. Still, we've evolved past instruction books for a reason. Tutorials can be smoothly integrated into the game- not just in some button that takes you to it, but just all throughout the gameplay, elements can be introduced properly. There's tons of ideas to do it better.
A short tutorial could be added (like in mcx360), but most people who buy Minecraft don't BLINDLY buy it. They have seen videos. They know the basics of what to do.
I dunno. I see an awful lot of confused people when they first play Minecraft. Again, even if they know everything, a proper system of educating the player on the basics of the game wouldn't do any harm.
Pretty much this entire thing is about the vanilla survival game. It is not about the lack of mods. Even if mods were mind bogglingly easy to install and create, the point of not considering mods is that this rant is directed at the vanilla survival game. If you want to make the argument of "go get mods", please don't. The same exact argument could be made if all of my suggestions were to hypothetically be added, anyway- you could get "mods" to change whatever it is that you'd dislike, too. However, my ideal situation isn't to add "what I want". It's to make the game better- which is why I highly encourage discussion and modifications of my ideas where necessary. I want to make the game better- not suit only my tastes.
Aside from that, the general point remains- I shouldn't need mods to do what the developers easily could do.
Besides, there aren't any mods that work together in such a fashion that you'd get if you comprehensively re-designed the game. Most mods aren't even made to work together.
Alot of things you mentioned don't even need to be added.
"need" how? I've explained fairly well that, to an extent, a lot of them do need to be added- if the game is ever to progress again. If you just mean "The game is fine as it is", then uh, what would be the problem with making it better? Remember, I'm not saying "MY CHANGES=BEST, ADD THESE RIGHT NOW MOJANG". I'm saying they should address the problems I've brought up, and if there are better solutions than mine, I more than encourage people to elaborate.
Minecraft isn't an RPG, we don't need 20 different weapons
How would having more weapons make the game an RPG? In fact, what I've suggested would make it less of an "RPG", because stats wouldn't matter as much as tactical choices in battles.
Dinnerbone's also subscribed and does watch Vechz's videos, and Vechz would (I think) agree much more with many of the things planned, such as the monster changes. Maybe we should tell him something about this.
I didn't know that, that is a really great idea. After all, Vechs idea is to make the current Minecraft harder, so if something makes them funner he should agree with it no problem. Once again, great idea!
I'm not quite for the idea of harassing people about my thread. If they see it, awesome. But if we annoy people about it, they'd be more likely to turn away from it, or pre-emptively be angry about it and read it with a negative viewpoint (instead of with an open mind).
OK yeah, you're probably right. Just saying cause most of the new stupid ideas were just spammed by all the community, so thought that might help.

Yeah, I'm thinking that spamming really isn't the best. It would be easy to reach Dinnerbone and Vechs, so really all we need is to do it.
Hmm, I've got a small suggestion:
Instead of sitting here thinking of ways to spread the word about this, why don't we continue to expand and add new ideas about things that could/should be in the game?
At current, I have two to add, but you people are creative, you can think of some:
This is just a simple decorative suggestion of mine, but I do think that beds should be different colors depending on what colour wool you've used to craft it.
I also think that mobs should be able to see through glass. I know spiders can do that already (and see through all other blocks, too), but it would make sense to have them all see through it. They should also see through leaves, vines, ice, iron bars, fences and other such things.

Yeah the beds idea would be a nice addition. It would be a little hard, but it would add a lot of options for house design. Although I do like the red color.
For the mobs looking through glass, I believe Splitbolt has already been able to modify this behavior, still haven't heard from him lately though.

I'm here! I have been doing actual work for the mod now, but yeah, glass seeing through. Will add.
On the other hand, I don't want to bother with colored beds. Waste of time for now, could be neat later on.
GOD! He is a freaking genius! This doesn't make the game specifically harder, but god does it save you time... I once again will say this, I think Dinnerbone is great.

A bit. It doesn't seem TOO complicated- there's a number of videos out there to help with modeling for Minecraft.
Sprint prevention is probably the best option. It'd be useful, since boats aren't always accessible/practical, but wouldn't make boats useless, either.
Yeah haha, I figure it'd be difficult to do that sort of thing. Still, difficulty shouldn't prevent awesome things from happening.

It doesn't really work.
Battleaxes would fit more into the gameplay if attack speed and knockback strength were added as actual stats- otherwise, yeah, not much of a use.
I'd love to see Warhammers, though. Or maces. Either works.
Cosmetically, it's nice, but past that it's still not very useful. Leather still needs some advantages over iron.
