Hello!
I would like to mimic a thread I saw back in the days of alpha where it had a list of cool things you could build in your survival world. As a beginner to minecraft it really helped me get ideas on what to build, and open my eyes to the endless possibilities that minecraft had in store for me. I would like to recreate that list and possibly add new things that weren't necessarily possible in alpha or simply weren't on the list. Any help will be greatly appreciated by suggesting things yourself, providing pictures, and finding good links for information/ tutorials on these things.
Lighthouse
A lighthouse can be very cool in your world. they do serve some purpose as a landmark, but they mostly just look awesome. Lighthouses would probobly be best built near an ocean or your base. Lighthouses can have lava, glowstone, or torches maybe blinking lights with pistons. Possibly, a lighthouse with a light moving around by using pistons.
Good link for complex lighthouse: Here
Mob Farm
A mob farm is extremely useful because it gives you all mob drops. You can get infinite TNT, arrows, bonemeal, food, and string as you like. You also will get lots of resources from digging one underground. The best information on hostile mob and passive mob farms can be found from the youtube users: Ethoslab and Docm77.
Mine Cart Station
Mine cart stations can be very complex or very simple. They allow for fast travel in your minecraft world or could be used to provide for scenic routes around amazing landscapes or your creations. If you are good with redstone you can learn a lot about mine carts. to provide you with a bit of inspiration:
However, much simpler button powered designs are possible and much more practical.
BioDome/BioSphere
While a biosphere/dome has little to no functionality, no one can deny how awesome they'll look in your world. You can most certainly build them off the ground or maybe deep in the depths of the earth. Either way, it is the perfect way to use some extra glas and make something truly extraordinary.

Note: This thread is a work in progress, for now I have limited time, so I really only have finished a template for this list. I will continue to update ass frequently as possible.

Well, a Library is easy. If you want, I could do a quick tutorial on that?
A mine cart station isn't hard either.
I would gladly do both.
Reply if you want me to.
Thanks for the help. You don't necessarily need to do a tutorial yourself, but if you know of any places where there is good information on such items. Maybe youtube videos. Most importantly, I need pictures.

I was wondering, how did all of you get into this game?
Updated, more suggestions and pictures, tutorial links, etc needed. BTW how do you post pictures? Can somebody point me in the right direction on that one please?

Back after a long while, so yay? Because the forum is being picky over 12 pixels over the limit in width, here's a link to my signature!
I would use Plotz for Bio-Domes and Lighthouses. They have the options of Wizard Towers, Lighthouses, Voxel Spheres, and something else (I forget what). Hope this helped.

The angels have stolen the box. Do you get it? PM me what it is if you figure it out. Google is allowed.
I don't know how I feel about that tree in the library. Also as a side note considering books should be the primary focal point they are completely swollowed up by the monotinous wood color scheme. Not to be harsh but that's just an observation.
