I am, as a side project, creating instructional builds aimed and new players and those players needing some spark of inspiration, modeled in the style of LEGO build instructions. I present a parts list, then show the progressive steps of the build from angles which allow others to follow along without long, verbose instructions.
This thread will collect all the various Step-by-Steps I post in one place. If you want to follow this project, just mark "Notify me when replies are posted" at the bottom of a reply to this thread. When I add a new thread, I'll add a new post here, and all that want to follow along will get an email alert.
This is such a great idea! I know that this is the very thing I would have needed my first go around playing Minecraft. Sometimes I still need it! I really appreciate what you're doing here, and I'm sure many other people do too.
You don't seem to have too many. I'm sure you're working on more as we speak, one such as yourself doesn't seem like a slacker! However, if you need suggestions, I have some:
Try some tutorials on mob towers [generators, traps], a few more versions of the log cabins and the incinerator to cover all tastes, simple minecart designs, chest placement designs for most efficiency, simple forge rooms, nice looking watchtowers that make it easy to locate and snipe out mobs, efficient crops for sugarcane, wheat, cactus, and trees, and some automatic farming crops as well.
Don't forget a fun section of awesome and easy creations we can make, like small rollercoasters, , easy statues, lava floes decorating rooms, underwater houses, and overwater houses in a glass sphere filled with water!
Also, if you're havin' trouble getting them all done, I would LOVE to help! I could even do an easy image tutorial as an example if you are hesitant that I would have the skill. Either way, Good Luck! I'm sure you will help a lot of people. :]
Edit: Oh! And to make sure everyone sees this and you have the most people helped to people who see it ratio, it's a good idea to visit suggestions and discussion and find people who need help building these things. That way they get their help and know where to go when they need more! :]
I like it! I remember that it took me like a week to figure out double doors when I started. I don't need these now, but I think your guides are very informative and well done! I hope they help new players! :biggrin.gif:
Nice post thus far, and I am following your work.
I don't know if you are accepting suggestions, but a think a sandcastle with sand and/or sandstone would be neat.
I just organized the builds into topics (to help readers find what they are looking for) and added a extendable minecart junction build, an evolution of the previous builds.
I also added cecilhowe's step-by-step to the list as a guest build
Check it out in the OP!

Dude, this is awesome, I love this type of thing. I was just thinking to myself that there should be a forum section for schematics/step-by-step guides for building everything, and these things are exactly the type of thing that could fill it.
I concur (unsurprisingly).
There is always a risk of giving too much direct guidance to new players and robbing them of creativity. I think, however, that scaffolding builds in this way demonstrates techniques that players can use to build new buildings, and helps new players by demonstrating different ways to combine block types to achieve visual styles.
In this sense, then, content such as the Step-by-Step series can be valuable (are you listening mods?)

It isn't as good as these ones, but the project is a lot of fun.
Keep up the good work!
