I'm using Frilioth's 1.13 villager breeder and it's been working completely fine, but it just stopped working today. I set up up an automatic villager carrot farm over 80 blocks away from it, and my villager trading hall is over 64 blocks away. I replaced the doors with trapdoors in my villager trading hall because the villager in my carrot farm kept trying to go towards it, but after doing that my breeder stopped working even though i didnt change that. I noticed I keep having to give my 2 breeding villagers more carrots and potatoes, but I dont think I should have to (i gave them almost full inventories at the start and have since added at least 20 stacks of carrots). Does anyone know why theyre not breeding?
Nevermind, I ran my carrot farm overnight and completely filled the 2 breeders inventories. Seems to have solved the issue, but I wonder why the villagers would lose carrots in their inventory (over the past 2 days I gave them over 25 stacks total) idk :/ Thanks!
Each time a villager breeds, they have to become "willing" again before they can breed again. To become willing, they have to have in their inventory, either 3 bread (or 9 wheat) or 12 carrots or potatoes. And each time they become willing, they consume that amount of food, reducing their inventory by that amount. So a stack of carrots or potatoes is about enough to breed 2.5 babies (12x5=60, and remember both parents will consume 12 carrots/potatoes for each baby they breed), so for each 5 babies that come out of your breeder, you need to toss in another two stacks of carrots or potatoes. This is nice for very efficient breeder designs, as you can limit the number of offspring by limiting how much food you toss in, preventing the breeder from pumping out hundreds or thousands of baby villagers if it's left unattended in a loaded chunk for too long.
