I usually spend all my time landscaping and building in peaceful mode, so I don't have to worry about mobs. Once in a while I will turn on easy mode and shoot at zombies who are trying to climb over my fence. For me that is the level of danger and excitement that I feel comfortable with.
Since I updated my game to 1.13.2. I now get attacked by flying mobs even in the safety of my own back yard. I tried to find some information about them on the Minecraft wiki but I don't know what they are called. Can someone help me out? Is there any defence against them? I have to admit that I don't enjoy their attacks at all.
EDIT: Never mind, I discovered I had a "Phantom Membrane" in my inventory that came from one of the creatures. I found the Phantom in the Wiki. Apparently, I only have to sleep for them to leave me alone. I will try that out!

They are called Phantoms, they spawn after a player goes 4-5 in game days without entering a bed. The only way to prevent them from spawning is to use a bed frequently. https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Phantom
You don't have to sleep away the whole night to keep phantoms from spawning, if you like being out at night you can just enter the bed and get right back up again.
Also, though you probably saw that in the Wiki, being under any kind of non transparent roof will keep them from spawning.

Oops, I edited my post before I read yours. Thanks, I will fluff up my pillows!

Just testing.
