Create a new world with Game Mode: Survival, World Type: Default, Generate Structures: ON, Allow Cheats: OFF, Bonus Chest: OFF, and using this seed for the world generator:
Gulliver!
Note: if you didn't get your base player size set to 0.25 before creating your challenge world, here's how you can correct that without changing your world settings:
At the Game menu, click "Open to LAN".
In the Settings for other players, set Allow Cheats: ON, and then start the LAN world.
Set your basesize in-game at the command line, using:
/basesize 0.25
Save and exit the world, then reopen it. (LAN and Cheat mode will no longer be active.)
Continue with the challenge!
Rules
Keep the same "base" size the entire time. You're allowed to change size using Potions or Dyes once you manage to craft them.
Play Vanilla + Gulliver - no other mods that add new items, blocks or entities, or change world generation. Don't use cheat mods like Too Many Items or SPC either, you'll just be cheating yourself out of the challenge. (Texture packs or rendering optimizers are okay.)
Use Easy or Normal difficulty. Don't try this challenge in Hardcore the first time through: death is an important learning experience for resized players!
Goal
Survive!
See how many of these tasks you can accomplish:
Build a house (livable and comfortable for your size!)
Climb a tree
Breed animals
Tame a pet
Bake a Cake
Make a Snow Golem
Make an Iron Golem
Ride on an Iron Golem, an animal and a monster
Ride a Bat!
Build a redstone contraption (an automatic "door" is good)
Reach the Nether
Get to normal size (either with Dyes or Potions)
Resize an animal or monster (either with Dyes or Potions)
Kill the Enderdragon, if you dare. (You can't resize them, just so you know.)
Some of these tasks are not as easy as they sound!
Gulliver Survival Challenge II - Extra-Mini
This has the same rules and goals as the regular challenge, with the following exceptions:
Use these configuration settings before creating the world:
If you play this on Minecraft 1.2.5 (not the current Minecraft!), you may install the Little Blocks Mod. (Install Gulliver after Little Blocks or else some features might not work correctly.)
Can you survive and thrive at 1/8 normal size?
Gulliver Survival Challenge III - Large
This has the same rules and goals as the regular challenge, with the following exception:
Use these configuration settings before creating the world:
You'll be twice normal size for this challenge. (It's more difficult than it sounds.)
Survival Tips (spoilered in case you want to discover them for yourself)
Mini-Challenge Tips (I & II):
You have less attack/digging power than when normal size, but not as much less if you are holding an Item - 1/4 power empty-handed vs. 1/2 power holding something. Your range is greater when holding an Item as well.
Holding "something pointy" gives you more attack power and lets you interact with things like Chests and Doors.
You make shorter jumps, but you can do a "power jump" up one block by holding Shift to sneak before you jump. You can power jump while sprinting too. But you won't be able to sprint or power-jump when you're close to starving, so take care while mining!
You can also climb certain kinds of blocks without jumping - for example, Grass, Gravel, Leaves and Wool. You can also climb Cactus, which won't hurt tiny players.
Most Mobs and Animals won't notice you unless you hit them, but Spiders and Ocelots can see and attack you. Also Cave Spider poison is more potent when you're small. Take care!
You can get "caught" by Arrows that Skeletons shoot at you. Break the block the arrow lands in to escape, or else carry an Apple to use as a "shield" against getting caught.
The 0.125 scale players in Challenge II have an extra problem - slowly drowning in rain! Carry a Lily Pad to use as an umbrella, or take shelter beneath nearby plants or animals. (Avoid the Roses though.)
You can wear any sort of helmet, but only Gold or Leather for the rest of the armor set. Gold armor will reduce your movement speed and jumping height.
Try to collect Reeds for Paper and a Lily Pad, these will help you get around more easily. If you're up for hunting Spiders, you can use the String to hitch a ride on a passing mob. A Fishing Rod is very useful as a grappling hook as well as for catching Fish for food.
Your main worry will be starvation. Activities will exhaust you more quickly, and even though food fills up more of your hunger bar, it takes a lot more effort to collect it.
Hunting animals for food is more difficult because you don't do as much damage with each hit, animals run faster than you, and they can cause you damage if they fall or step on you.
Farming is one way of getting food more safely, but tiny players can't convert Grass into Farmland (the sod is too thick!) They can use the Hoe on Dirt, but it may take multiple tries to make Farmland.
For a nice easy "garage door"-style entrance for tiny shelters, place an upside-down Stair or Half Slab, then place a Trapdoor at the top of the side of the stair/slab block. "Open" the Trapdoor to close it
Large-Challenge Tips (III):
You can't sleep in Beds, so you can't outsleep the night or change your spawn point. Take good care of the spawn area.
You will wear out tools faster. You also do more damage when empty-handed than with lesser tools, so sometimes punching blocks or creatures is the best option.
Falls will hurt you more. Watch your step!
Shelter is your main concern. Mining and building a house will be more difficult since you take up more room. Doors are especially challenging.
You can walk around the overworld more easily, so go exploring for resources. Raid villages if you have to
You might not be able to use Nether Portals at double-size, so you'll have to craft Cyan Dye in order to make yourself small enough.
Do these challenges sound like fun? Feel free to make suggestions, and post stories, pictures and videos of your experiences
I have started a Let's Play based on this I'm not doing the challanges, but i am playing as 1/8th of normal size.
Here it is:
Oh cool! Let's Plays make for good beta-test data
(Hmm, the Challenges and Survival Tips could use some updating for the new Minecraft 1.3 versions...)
EDIT: Really could've done without the swearing in your video, though. For a twelve-year-old in the U.S. that's "grounded with no TV or internet for a week" language.
My friends and I are going to do a Let's Play Series of this, I also made an introductory mini-mod spotlight for it. The first video will hopefully be up soon, and I'll post it as soon as possible! http://www.youtube.com/user/LordLapis
(In other news, does anyone know how to add the youtube link to the signature?)

Sounds fun, I'll try it.

Feel free to post your own tips and strategies that you discover as you play
(put in a spoiler for the same reason you put your tips in one)
Use cacti to kill spiders after the sun rises for easier string!
Hee, that sounds like something out of Monty Python
Edit: Maybe I should add an achievement for getting squished to death by a Cow (or whatever)...
yay
