I think after all the hours you put into your old world you'll regret deleting it. I think the suggestion of traveling through the nether to new terrain is the best route. Because you can explore the new features and think of things you can do with the new terrain and materials all the while having that connection to your old base with all its farms and supplies. And you can always bring back new things you find and make your current base even better.
I think you should start a new world. You seem to have explored a lot, and you have a lot of good things going so it would be silly to move to a whole new place.
I did the same thing. I had my original Survival world (which is under Survival Mode somewhere), but it was so explored that there was nothing new for tons of blocks. For that reason, I started a second world for 1.7 and above. So I downgrade to play the original, but I play both worlds still

People think starting a new world means deleting your old one. I never deleted my I don't care world when I made the remake.
My recommendation: just keep playing on your old world, but maybe venture so far out you find the new biomes, then start anew there. It will be just like starting a new world but you can always go back to your old stuff without having to switch worlds. The reason I say you should not start a new world is because you will start to only play on it, not your old world. Then one day you will decide to delete the world (for whatever reason, sounds weird but it happened to me for one of my favorite worlds!) Then later you will regret it SOO bad! Also, having just one world for survival is alot more satisfying then splitting your best accomplishments throughout multiple worlds. Isnt it better to have all your builds and giant mines in one place? Thank you for reading this long post XD.
I had the same problem. I had a world for so long then didn't feel like playing it anymore because of the place I built my house. I made a new one, made an underground cave and enjoy it a lot once you get started.
I think that the idea of the nether travel is the best one. Moving 500 or 800 blocks in the Nether will put you on unexplored terrain and will give you plenty of space to work on. Maybe you can think that moving to other location is the same as creating a new world, but it is slightly different. If you create a new world you will lose all the progress that you have made in this one, whereas if you keep playing in the old and just travel in the nether your world will continue being developed and will be better. And If you want to start over and feel like you just have created a new world you can cross the portal without anything and avoid coming to the old base until you are well established.
I had a similar issue like yours. I was tired of my base and found a good spot to make a new one. Then I just came there, started over, and I'm now happier than if I would have created a new world. It is just that having all of what you have made in only one world is cooler and shows more the effort that you have put in it than having it divided in twenty three world or so.
(Sorry if there are any mistakes, english is not my native language and I'm yet to learn a lot of idiomatic expressions).
What did you think I meant?
Right on.
