I'm going to keep this simple.
So, I started a hardcore world recently, and I've grown attached to that world, playing it every time I go on SP. I don't want the world to be deleted if I die, because I've made a nice house, tamed a few dogs, and have a good amount of iron. I'm just wondering, is there a way to change my world from hardcore to survival?
Thanks!
Well, I believe if you go into the minecraft code, you can find the file relating to that minecraft world, and change the coding from hardcore to survival, or if you like mobs ^ what he said

I've kind of forgoten but its something like this
make a new world in survival mode using the same seed as your hardcore world's
then copy the region and data folders from your hardcore world and paste them into your survival world
Ps if you dont know how to get the folders then read on
(this is for windows)
Press the start button in the bottom left corner and click run
then search %appdata% after click the .minecraft folder and go to saves there should be a folder with the original name of your hardcore world open it and you'll find the folders copy them into the survival world folder

Use Single Player Commands mod and type /hardcore when you are in dat world. then log off the world. after that, go back into dat world. the hearts will be changed and you can play Survival without deleting the world!
(BTW there is no LEGIT way. only modding can do it.

Im an insult to Etho and Mindcrack, yet I am a fan of it
Draco look. If you read the minecraft description is said Hardcore mode is LOCKED at hardcore difficulty. There is no way to change the difficulty of hardcore mode.
Just launch your world in LAN, activate the ''Cheats''.
Now you're able to change your gamemode with /gamemode survival
No need to install mods or something.

Unless you want the change to be permanent!
When you restart the game you're back in Hardcore.

Actually, you never leave Hardcore, being in LAN with cheats lets you use commands you couldn't otherwise, like gamemode but all all [/gamemode survival] does seems to be to let you continue playing if you're dead.

And [/difficulty] has no effect.
That's true, at least you can respawn easily. But you'd have to do it every time.
