Having found out about Minecraft from the Minecraft tutorial genius that is paulsoaresjr, it would have to be the boat elevator, the only way to go up without moving or the dreaded redstone. But other than that Minecraft has only gotten better since Pre-Release 1.9. Except for the new zombie mechanics, those suck.
What I missed was the community not complaining about every single change they made. There’s threads on adding back the roses in the Suggestion and Recent Updates and Snapshots forums right now. The community should stop complaining.
Old beta world gen!!!!!!!!! Minecrafts current world gen is a mess!!! just look at a servers dynamic map. All the biomes are arranged in a massive jigsaw puzzle of biomes unrealistically pasted right next to each other and are very tiny. I hate the mountain biome because just by looking at it its just a bunch of terrain prefabs stuck together. And under ground valleys would be cool if the design was more random but its just so predictable its boring to find these things. Beta world gen was much more cooler, it felt real, and it was much more random. The final world gen is just so predictable that it goes against the old methos of minecraft, infinite possibilities, in which the current world gen every world feels mostly the same.
That and I miss the ghast vulnerability to lava. The screams of death you would hear in the nether was the real stuff of nightmares back then.
I really enjoy minecraft as it is now. But something I miss is that the old books don't needed leather to craft. I liked to build libraries, but now having to slay a ton of cows just to complete the enchantment room makes it so boring...
There's a couple of things I miss from when I started playing. I still believe that the current version is better, but I still hold a great deal of nostalgia for the way things used to be.
*Gravel Beaches from pre-1.8 terrain (Along with their old texture): My very first house in Minecraft was built on a nice looking Gravel beach.
*Beta grass color in forests looked so much nicer and welcoming.
*Being a noob: I remember when I first found a block of redstone ore, I thought it was a vein of rubies xD I read on the wiki that you could open iron doors with redstone, so I tried literally right clicking an iron door with a piece of redstone dust.
*Old animal spawning/despawning mechanics: This made animals more aesthetic than purposeful. After collecting a certain number of porkchops, you didn't have any reason to kill pigs, and back in beta, there wasn't any reason to collect leather or feathers (From chickens at least)
*Beta terrain diversity: I didn't like everything about the terrain in beta (And the random patches of sand in forests/plains really bugged me), but I did love running across steep cliffs, floating islands, and interesting peaks. The current terrain is just too predictable for my liking (And I'm still deciding how I feel about the 1.7 terrain)
*Old armor damage calculation: Armor actually used to protect you less, the more broken it was, and it also broke a lot quicker. This really made the game a lot more challenging.
*Overall simplicity: Minecraft used to be a game where I could start a world, punch a tree, go mining, and build whatever came to my mind. This has not changed, but now there are so many distractions that only make the game easier. Enchanting armor/swords/bows makes it nearly impossible to die by mobs, even if you're playing in hard. Old mob farms weren't overpowered by my standard. You couldn't sit at a mob farm for infinite iron, you couldn't make a big sugar cane farm and trade villagers for emeralds for diamond tools/armor. You couldn't get infinite redstone and glowstone from witch farms. You still had a reason to go mining for resources. I don't have any issue when other people build these mob farms, but by not using these new "distractions" I always feel like I'm behind everyone else, which really takes away from my satisfaction in playing sometimes.
I like most of the new features of current Minecraft, but there are some things that I really miss from my early Minecraft days.
Yea those were the days i remember staving on my second world and just digging straight down and seeing this blue thing (later i found out that was diamond lol) and trying to make i bridge over to it and i did not know about Shift and there was lava and... but that is probably my favorite memory of when i was a noob.
Am glad to see the responses and by the why am not complaining about anything i just was talking with a friend and i got a bit nostalgic am not saying what was better or what is worse now am saying what do you miss

#BAUM4EXILE2014 :^) HELP CAPSLOCK KEY FELL OFF IT SWITCHES ON AND OFF, HELP PLS.
i will say it again am not asking people to complain nor i am,am only touching what i feel is a nostalgic matter since i talked it with a friend about this and got curious what did people miss. If u wanted to complain i would say ¨New minecraft sucks¨ instead of asking what do poeple miss from the start
I am not looking forward to the new update. Yes, I know it's supposed to be "new" and "exciting", but it looks to me like a More Biomes mod that can't be turned off. I also miss the simpleness and terrain of Beta.

"I'll explain, and I'll use small words so you can understand, you warthog-faced buffoon!"
Agreed. I miss the times when I was still trying to discover new crafting recipes and trying to build a pit trap for monsters. I built a giant spiral staircase into the sky to see how high the world went and marveled with awe at the landscape below when I reached the top. Gameplay-wise, I'm still having a blast, but you can't ever really recapture those noob days when you derped around and had crazy adventures.
The only thing I kinda miss was when I was still learning the ropes of this game... But otherwise, everything else I enjoy is still in the game, just alongside new content.
Edit: Well that, but also before I really went on the MC Forums. I enjoy seeing the suggestions some people make, and the forum games are nice too, but people just complain about every single update now, I just wish some people could be a little more mature about these things. As for those that at least put up a half decent argument, okay, at least you're putting in an effort over the couple hundred complaint threads about horses, or roses being turned into a rosebush.
