Beta 1.8.1 is a lot better than I remember. Performance is pretty stable and it adds quite a lot of good features. A new terrain generation, stone bricks, glass panes, fence gates, melons, endermen, cave spiders, silverfish, ravines, strongholds and villages are all added in this update alone. It also changed the way the hunger system works. Before, there was no regenerating health and food did not stack. Now there's a hunger bar and food continues to stack. Passive animals no longer respawn like they used to. You also can't breed them so I have yet to kill any animals on this version because there's no way to get them back. A lot of other things have changed as well.
Semi-Auto Wheat Farm:
I built a small wheat farm right underneath the tree farm. I didn't need a massive one as I already have the large manual farm but this was really fun to create.
Semi-Auto Sugar Cane Farm:
I built a small sugar cane farm right next to it. I didn't make it that big but I also don't need a lot of this so I'm pleased with the design.
Added a nice area to the eastern side of the village where I usually travel from. I've kinda went overboard with the stone bricks but they are the best block added into the game at this point of time. I also updated the manual wheat farm to use fence gates instead of the doors we had to use before. A well was added. Originally, it was going to offer a quick way down to my storage room but I scraped the idea.
Pathways:
I got rid of the old pathways I created and decided to use a combination of cobblestone, stone, stone bricks, mossy stone bricks and cracked stone bricks to make the new ones. In this version of Minecraft, it is impossible to craft mossy and cracked stone bricks. Instead, you have to destroy stone brick stairs that face a certain direction in order to obtain them. I'm assuming this was left in as some sort of debug action or some type of test. Either way, I think my village is starting to look a lot nicer.
BETA Sign:
The long awaited sequel to my Infdev and Alpha sign. It's pretty basic but notice how the dirt and grass blocks help make the sign pop. I'm just kidding, this was just the outline to see how I wanted it to look. As you can see, I can to cover up the old river that was here which means I had to remove the glitched underwater sugar cane, farmland and ladders.
First things first, I needed a lot of room for the redstone and decided to blow up the area with a bunch of TNT.
I'm not really going to attempt to explain the redstone here. Essentially, I wanted it so when I clicked a button, it would cycle through all the different Minecraft Beta versions. This required the use of something called piston memory. I wanted to do something that would make the Beta sign stick out. The Infdev sign was basic, the Alpha sign had its lava so I think Beta using pistons was an interesting idea.
After a lot of reconstruction, I completed the Beta sign. I still need a proper way to light it but overall, I'm happy with it. It can cycle through Beta 1.0-Beta 1.8.
After a daring trip into the nether, I gathered a ton of glowstone and used it to light up my house and the rest of the village. Pistons prior to 1.14 are transparent and allow light to pass through them so I used them to hide some of the glowstone. I also added fence posts with torches around the village to make it look better. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the village as it is almost finished up with. Besides that, we have something much more important to move on to.
Back to Alpha Base and Infdev House:
I decided to head back to Infdev and Alpha terrain. With the 10th anniversary of Minecraft coming on May 17th, I wanted to do some pixel art to celebrate it and also celebrate my world that will reach its 1st anniversary on May 28th! I can't believe it's already been a year and I'm still in Beta lmao. I forgot what my Alpha Base looked like and the sign and house brought so much warmth to my heart.
I haven't been to Infdev terrain in even longer. The house and builds are so basic but still feel great to me. The tree of life is is still strong and as long as I don't update the blocks, the glitch should carry on. Anyways, I've come here to make some builds for Minecraft's anniversary.
Anniversary Build (Part 1 of 3):
Surprisingly, the one thing I can say I've never done in Minecraft is pixel art. Today, I did my first one. This is also the first pixel art that was ever posted for Minecraft, only several hours after Notch released the game. I remade it in my Infdev land and its one out of three builds I am going to do. I'm going to challenge myself by only using blocks that were available on May 17th, 2009. The blocks available at time were: Cobblestone, stone, grass, dirt and planks. Expect 1 to 2 more posts leading up to its anniversary and my world's anniversary. After I finish up here, I'm going to start work on a small Beta 1.8 base I need to make in the new terrain provided by this update. I will use this base to find my first mineshafts, ravines and village.

*Meant to add this in the other post. Apologies for double posting.*
Two things I've questioned about my world so far.
1. My spawnpoint has been changed.
Pretty recently, I died and didn't have a bed set as a spawnpoint. I expected that I would spawn at Spawn Tower way back in Infdev terrain but surprisingly, I spawned only 400 or so blocks away from my Beta Village. This is especially weird as the cords for Beta Village exceed 10000 on both the X and Y axis. I've also never seen a world gets its spawnpoint changed without commands/cheats/etc so this intrigued me. I dug through all my backups in MCEDIT to try to figure out when this happened. It turns out in Beta 1.4, the second I slept in a bed at Beta Village, it changed my world spawn point to a new location. I'm unsure why this occured and as I find this inconvenient, I will utilize MCEDIT to changed the world spawn point back to its original location. Yes, this is technically using outside programs on the world but I feel it is will deserved on this occasion. I've looked online and haven't seen anyone who has had this issue before so I'm unsure what caused it.
2. When were spawn chunks added?
If you don't know, spawn chunks are chunks that generate in a radius around the worldspawnpoint. These chunks are always active as long as there is a player in the Overworld. This mean things like redstone contraptions and other things can still work and function even if the player is 5000 blocks away. This is where many people choose to put things like Iron Golem farms because it allows them to spawn and drop their iron while the player is nowhere near the farm.
I was exactly curious as to when spawn chunks were added and I could not find my answer through Google. I decided I would test if they exist in Beta 1.8. To my surprise, they do. How I tested it is simple. I dropped a bunch of items in my spawn chunks and flew far away (tested this in a creative world). If they are spawn chunks, that means they are always active and the 5 minute timer before your items disappear will always function no matter how far away you are. If they are regular chunks, they timer will stop and your items will not disappear as long as you keep those chunks unloaded. When I came back to the place I dropped my items after 5 minutes, my items disappeared.
Surprised by this, I went all the way back to Infdev and tested this out. My items did not disappear. This means Infdev did not have spawn chunks. I'm going to do some testing on this and I'll get back to you with my findings. My theory is that spawn chunks were not a thing prior to Beta 1.3 where the save file format changed.

Oh, it appears the forums hasn't shut down lmao. Well, well, this is interesting. I'm still playing on this world but haven't been as active on it. I will upload some screenshots soon, especially since I'm inspired because the forums have not shut down.
I did this sometime in May. It's not a complicated build and I would have used more blocks had I been in more recent updates of Minecraft. Anyways, I just wanted something to celebrate one of my favorite games turning 10 years old. I can't believe it's already been ten years. I didn't start playing in 2009 but it still feels like just yesterday, I booted the game up for the first time and watched hours of YouTube videos on the game. It took a lot of stone to build this but I'm happy with the outcome. On top of that, I made it so the message appears on both sides so you can't see it from two directions and it's really cool to come up to it in the night time.
Cake!!!!:
You didn't think that was it, did you? Lol, I also built a little "shrine" I guess you can call it that has ten towers of cake for obvious reasons. I sadly had to build it over my glitched entrance to the void but oh well, I'll make some use of it in the future. I think it was a really cool idea to build all of these in the Infdev Lands and I really enjoyed coming back here and look at my old builds. Since my world turned a year old sometimes in May, I will also be doing something special for that. I think it's going to involve a block of diamond and a shrine but I might wait until Official Release 1.0 as I think I want to add the dragon egg to it.
Here's some more pictures from different angles:
Beta 1.8 Terrain:
Not much to see here. After I finished up there, I returned to Beta Village and began exploring new terrain. Beta 1.8 introduced a new (and controversial) terrain generation and introduced new features like ravines, mineshafts, strongholds (no end yet) and villages. I found a ravine and village. The village is pretty boring as there is no loot yet (besides crops) and villagers have not been introduced yet. I'm going to do some more finishing touches on Beta Village, explore some more terrain, hopefully find a mineshaft and celebrate the world's one-year anniversary by upgrading to Official Release 1.0.
A little bit late but finally decided to upload the pictures of my 1-Year Anniversary build. A pretty simple build but I think it's quite special and I like how I used Infdev terrain to build it in. Gives a lot of flavor to my spawn chunks.
Even though my activity has been inconsistent, I decided to move on to Minecraft Official Release 1.0. I think we spent more than enough time on Beta 1.8.1 and it's finally time to say goodbye to an era of Minecraft I will miss very much.
Here we are, guys! I'm finally on the first Official Release version of Minecraft. I have a lot of big projects planned and I should hopefully be able to create an amazing ecosystem between our InfDev, Alpha, Beta and Official Release lands. Just like how I did when we moved from InfDev to Alpha and Alpha to Beta, we are going to leave all blocks, items and tools behind in Beta Village and start over from scratch in newly generated terrain.
Official Release 1.0 added the Ender Dragon, Potions & Enchantments, The End, Nether Fortresses, Blaze, Magma Cubes, Breeding, Hardcore Mode and Mushroom Islands. With this in mind, I decided I will not upgrade to the next version until I defeat the Ender Dragon. Up until Official Release 1.9, there is no way to respawn the dragon so I will only be able to fight it once.
Finishing Touches on Beta Village:
I'll be completely honest and state that I have been getting pretty bored in Beta Village. My activity in Minecraft has dropped significantly and I felt stagnated by being there so it's very refreshing to leave it and also a little sad. I finished off one of the buildings I had long left uncompleted and dropped off all my items in my storage room.
Here are the cords of my current bases:
InfDev House: X: 30 Z: 121
Alpha 1.1.2_01 House: X: 1007 Z: 450
Alpha 1.2.6 New House 1: X: 644 Z: 3612
Alpha 1.2.6 New House 2: X: 2952 Z: 5638
Beta Village: 10133, 11922
As you can see, Beta Village is thousands of blocks away from all the other bases. I regret building it so far away as it makes traveling back to InfDev and Alpha a real challenge, even when utilizing the Nether. I did plan to build my new base somewhere in between Beta Village and Alpha 1.1.2_01 House but unfortunately, I ran into a new problem.
Sadly, Official Release 1.0-1.7.2 are plagued with this infinite ocean problem. For some reason, when you head to far out on the X or Z access, ocean biomes are the only thing that spawns except for the occasional tiny island. I traveled in many different directions and ran into the same problem. Disappointed, I decided to generate the new terrain near my InfDev House instead of near Beta Village. This gave me much better results and after a few days of searching, I found a spot I want to build at.
This is not too far from InfDev and I enjoy the terrain and the variety of biomes I get around me. There's a desert, tundra, swamp and forest all nearby along with some plains and some extreme hills. I built a little starter shack and started mining. Unlike previous updates, my main focus this time is getting to the End and defeating the dragon so I'm not going to be as focused on building this time around; I'll save that for next update. I plan getting a full enchanted iron or diamond armor set, some iron and diamond tools and I obviously need to enter the Nether to kill some blaze so I can make some eye of enders and search for a stronghold.
Sadly, Official Release 1.0-1.7.2 are plagued with this infinite ocean problem. For some reason, when you head to far out on the X or Z access, ocean biomes are the only thing that spawns except for the occasional tiny island.
This is a misconception; the game does occasionally generate large landmasses like the one around the origin (which is forced to generate there), they are just rather far apart, with around 75% of the world being ocean (including small islands which are parts of the seafloor that rise above the surface, not including "river" placed offshore to simulate shallow ocean):
Note that the scale at the bottom is actually 20,000 blocks since I modified the game to change biome size from 4 to 2 (each step down halves the distance between biomes without changing the biome layout) so I could map a larger area before AMIDST ran out of memory; the area shown is around 128,000 blocks across and the longest straight-line distance over ocean is around 95,000 blocks:
This is from an analysis of 500 seeds, each covering a random 8192x8192 block area at least 16384 blocks from the origin (to avoid contamination from the continent that is forced to generate there):
(note that this is slightly biased towards non-ocean biomes because the code for 1.7+ still includes the code that 1.0-1.6.4 used to force a continent to generate around the origin, which is why I analyzed areas well away from it; still, oceans are much less extensive and there is no true "infinite" ocean)

Interesting stuff, TheMasterCaver. I forgot you were the 1.6.4 Guru on all the technical stuff. I'm not nearly as knowledgeable on this stuff. I was exaggerating the "infinite" oceans; They just feel so massive sometimes that they are a pain to get through xD. Thanks for the comment!
The majority of what I've done on this update so far is mine, mine and more mining. I found a few caves and explored some a bit but I mainly focused on building tunnels and branch mining. All that mining got me enough diamonds to make a pickaxe and an enchantment table with some diamonds left over. I built my house up a little bit but I've kept it basic for now as my goal is still getting to the End. I found a lot of redstone which will be very helpful in the future. Before I head to the End, I want a pickaxe with Fortune III and a Sword with Looting III. Let's see if I can remember how enchanting worked back in these days.
Skeleton Spawner:
On my way to finding the area I want to build in for Official Release, I ran into a skeleton spawner that is located pretty close to the surface. I marked it with a tower of wooden planks and made a mental note to myself to come back to it. Well, after getting a lot of mining done, I figured I might as well as come here to make an XP farm. The spawner had some decent loot including a saddle. I believe we found one skeleton spawner during my Alpha days as well but I never did anything with it.
I made a little water elevator and had the skeleton drop down and take enough fall damage to leave them with very little health. I sat here and farmed for a while. The mechanics aren't pretty and I currently have no way to turn off the farm which makes staying in the area kinda annoying. I'll make it pretty and smoother in another update.
Nether Portal:
I decided to link up the skeleton spawner and my base through the nether. Of course, my brain goes blank and I end up misplacing some obsidian. I did not feel like trucking it back to base to grab my diamond pick so I decided to dig down near my skeleton xp farm and see if I could locate some diamond.
I got lucky! Not only did I find a mineshaft and lava but I also found 3 diamonds. I made my 2nd diamond pickaxe, fixed up the portal and now I can travel back and forth. I now need to obtain 50 levels of xp and I need bookshelves. You don't need leather to make books on these older updates so all I need to do is farm some sugar canes.
Enchanting & more mining:
I grab enough sugar cane and wood to make 30 bookshelves and I place them around the enchanting table. I keep placing and removing my diamond pick until I get a level 50 enchant. Sadly, the game doesn't let you see what enchantment you are receiving until you spend the levels. Luckily, I got Fortune III and Unbreaking III on my diamond pickaxe. I decide to use this new pick to go mining.
I grab quite a lot of diamond, lapiz and coal and I'm very happy with the enchantment. I would have liked to get a Silk Touch pickaxe as well but I'll save that for the future. I'm gonna head back to the xp farm and grind my way to a Looting III diamond sword. Once I have that, it's time to kill some endermen and blaze and I'll be on my way to the End to face the Ender Dragon.

Went on a daring trip into the nether to farm some blaze for the eye of enders that I will need. With Looting III, it took little to no time and luckily, I didn't run into any ghasts. Unfortunately, fortresses do not yet have any loot so exploring them was lackluster at best. I traveled back to the overworld, spent a few nights grinding out endermen and ended up with enough to get myself 16 eyes (12 for the portal, 4 for finding the stronghold).
Disclaimer: I did use MCEdit and a seed explorer program to make sure I hadn't explored the chunks where the strongholds should be on previous updates. This was my biggest concern going into this series and I'm happy to say two out of the three of our strongholds are in unexplored chunks (1 was supposed to be near the area I built the Alpha base at). I still utilized the eye of enders to legitimately find the stronghold though so I don't consider this cheating.
With all that said and done, it's time to find the stronghold!
Stronghold & the Pesky Silverfish:
With everything said and done, I said goodbye to my newly formed base and traveled in the direction the eye led me. I ran into a village (this is the first village I found in this update) and ran into our very first VILLAGERS! They are pretty useless as you can't trade with them yet and there is not look in the blacksmith building either. I traveled along, ran into some interesting chunk borders and eventually found the portal. After handling the many, many, many silverfish and lighting up the general area, I activated the portal and decided to pull out the big guns and equip my diamond armor (totally unnecessary lol). This is my first time defeating the dragon on a single player world for me so this will be a very exciting event.
Beating Minecraft:
It was pretty boring but I finally defeated the Ender Dragon in a singleplayer world. I feel satisfied and it dropped a whole bunch of xp which got me a silk touch pickaxe and some cool armor. Of course, I captured the egg as well:
Overall, pretty satisfied with what I've accomplished. Look out on the horizon, I got some really fun and exciting plans coming up.

Really love these. Please continue, it's great and it made me want to play my Minecraft survival world again.

This is from an analysis of 500 seeds, each covering a random 8192x8192 block area at least 16384 blocks from the origin (to avoid contamination from the continent that is forced to generate there):
For comparison, oceans cover about 24% of 1.7+ worlds (note - that includes 1.7.2):
https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/seeds/2924676-how-common-rare-are-all-biomes-in-minecraft-the
(note that this is slightly biased towards non-ocean biomes because the code for 1.7+ still includes the code that 1.0-1.6.4 used to force a continent to generate around the origin, which is why I analyzed areas well away from it; still, oceans are much less extensive and there is no true "infinite" ocean)
TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Wheat Farm (Built near my base):

Wow, I forgot how random enchanting was back then! I'm sure you'll be seeing Mr Ender Dragon very soon!
