So, my friends and I recently started a new Realms server and we've been at it for about two weeks. A few days ago I wanted to begin building using black dyed blocks so I went out hunting for squid. At this point I've spent 5 hours under water with no luck. Are they really that rare? Also, we've only seen 1 dolphin and during my travels I haven't seen any fish to pick up in buckets either. Am I missing something here? Is aquatic life really that rare?
That is really strange. Find a bigger body of water maybe? No issues with squid for me. I only have dolphins and turtles in the already explored areas from before the update. I must travel very far to see the kelp and coral and new fish from the Aquatic Update which sucks.

If there is a river or something at spawn i think that might just be hogging squid. But i dont remember how that works. However, I do know that realms in 1.13 are really REALLY messed up. We had spawning issues on the realm im part of along with a whole plethora of other issues. Just rent a server, its a lot better and doesnt take that much more effort and you definitely don't need to spend that much money.
Alright, thanks for your input everyone! Seems like turtles are the only things that spawns in our seas nowadays. Not to mention that on all my 1,5 years of experience on Realms I've never seen a parrot nor an ozelot in jungles. Is this some technical problem on Mojangs behalf or is it something standard on Realms?
I believe that from 1.13.1, Squid will only spawn in river, beach and ocean biomes (not sure about 1.13). Which i assume means pools and such which generate in other biomes will no longer have squid, so also any farms built in these areas will no longer work.

I've never had an issue finding them at all, so this is kind of odd you're not able to.

I have issues finding squid sometimes too.
I'm currently clearing an ocean monument, and usually, they're falling over each other to die to the water wall. I've seen 3, maybe 4. :/

I think it's a glitch. I have a realm and it works fine mob-wise for me.
