@PhaserFY: In addition to what Locke said, there is one small problem. So far, I have found no way to make a skin that is in any part invisible, let alone completely so. There are mods, plugins, etc., but no vanilla method. You could make a camo skin, but that will only work when someone is looking at you at exactly the right angle with the exact right texture behind you to match your suit. And, there's no way to guarantee they'll be using the same texture pack you designed the camo for. So, in my opinion, camo skins are generally a bad idea.

Anyone else build a 28-block-per-harvest renewable Obsidian Generator using only ONE lava source?
Anyone else beat a guy who was in Creative in Spleef? ON BEDROCK!?
Of course, it would theoretically be possible to create a general camo skin. Similar to military camo in real life. They don't use realtree hunting camo, because they need to fit in multiple similar environments, not one specific one. You could create a skin that partially camouflages you in most normal texture packs. At the very least, it would serve to break up your outline and confuse the enemy, especially if you never stop moving. I think we all agree that perfect camouflage is impossible, but camouflage isn't quite useless.
dont forget with the use of blaze rodes nether brickes and and zombie pig men we need to find ways to make mob grinders in the nether so we can make more potiones and have a new ways to get suplys from tghe nether.
God only knows how one could make a grinder in the Nether, where almost all mobs (if not all of them outright) are practically immune to lava/fire damage. I imagine you could use cacti, but drowning traps and lava grinders are definitely out.

I still don't think almost any of these ideas are usefull for Vanilla, or in really any PvP. The underground bases are on the right track, but people will /kill themselves in jail, /spawn, or even tell thier friends your cords. Once your base is empty of people, they will come back, so all your "defences" are worthless, and no, you can't practicly have a guard around the clock. If you want to try these ideas on a real SMP server, try Nagura (look it up on these forums) and start attacking the factions who never read these exept for fun or ideas, never for strategy.
I mean really, do you REALLY think that people will "plan" out attacks like this: "You go this way and disable farms, while I bottleneck them in the North Corridor." What are you drinking :biggrin.gif:. So yea, lets test your methods against real battle tested methods, look for Ringsea5washere >:biggrin.gif: Watch as your "defences" are breached as soon as nobody is left in your base, and all your diamonds are now in compitent hands.
I'm really not in the mood for another argument, so please don't turn this into one. Almost none of the things you mentioned are seriously described in this thread. If you don't agree with it, why are you reading it and posting this? You could just leave and forget about it if you don't care about it. I personally have used strategy in PvP, and it does win out over mindless brawling, at least when you've got a competent team with a commander who knows what he's doing.
I am not saying that you can't use strategy. I'm saying that all these murder-bridges and self-repairing walls are worthless, but, some of it like spy stuff is helpful. Under no circumstance would you break into a location to spy on it tho, you would attack it then.
No circumstance? What if their whole clan is online at once, and you're the only member of your clan on? Attacking wouldn't be such a good idea. And it helps to know the place you're attacking before you attack it. Again, it's just thinking things through before you act. And self-repairing walls are much harder to get into, even if it's not impossible.

And I utterly agree, you SHOULD think before you act, the "murder bridge" and things of that sort is the aspect that does not really work. If you build a self-reparing wall far from civilization, it may work, but it would take hours to build a good one, which by the time you log on the next day, may be gone. All you need to do is dig the block next to the pistons and break them or the redstone.

Not all self-repairing walls require pistons, and I never use pistons in mine. And I think you're thinking a little more individual PvP instead of warfare as discussed in this thread. If you have a decent clan, building such a wall could take less than an hour, and traps like the murder bridge can be useful in certain situations. It's not so unusual to see such an overhang or natural bridge.
Fyi, this thread has been discontinued, and the original AoW by Valerius Maximus was started up again a few months ago. You should go there, as it's much more current and active.
fantastic, now i can easily defend my lands from the oncoming hordes of pvp craving barbaarians on my server, i just set up a few hidden sand falls where im most easily attakable and my archers rain hell down on the enemies
What kind of server would these tactics really be used on? On most server's it's just about waiting for the enemies to log off, and then looting their base while nobody can defend it, and to counter this, just going as far from spawn so they can't find your base. I've asked this question on the origional art of war, but never got a good answer, maybe you have one.

The ideal PvP server would balance the game such that;
A.) There are consequences for death
B.) There's not an easy/no way at all to raid bases without people online to defend them
C.) Scarce/strategic distribution of resources gives actual incentive to wage war on eachother.
As for the first one, many hardcore servers institute a death ban for some indefinite amount of time, I think that's a cheap cop out. I recommend that servers start running the mod Prison Pearl.
This allows people to capture their enemies as prisoners, this adds a whole new layer of strategy because it comes at the cost of the captured player being able to locate their "pearl". This would require the construction of dedicated prisons, full time guards to guard them, and would make for interesting diplomatic/war operations.
As for the second requirement, it can be done with factions. The configuration file for factions gives admins the ability to set it up however they want. People just choose not to because their target audience is the idiots who run around and just want to spawn camp and kill people.
Which brings to mind another necessity
D.) There needs to be a random spawn plugin
This forces people to be able to survive on their own for long enough to find their clan mates, and also makes it harder to just trap and kill people at the spawn because there isn't one.
And for the third requirement it can be done with custom terrain generators, or a custom mapper who works for the server to design maps.
