Finally got my new, good computer so decided to started this challenge, spawned in a NPC village on a plains biome, but deserts are my thing so went in search of a desert.
Found one about 350-500 blocks out, looked for a shore-line and set up base.
After setting up camp, went in search of a good cave system, got down to about layer 20 when I noticed stone brick jutting out of the cave in front of me, lo and behold, I had found a stronghold ^_^.
Went into the stronghold and was slightly disappointed by what I saw, there were no libraries, not even a single chest, good news was that there was an End Portal at layer 11. saved my co-ordinates and went searching for diamonds, obsidian and possibly a Slime. Found diamonds about 50-60 blocks away from the portal over a lava lake, mined 5 up and noticed a had struck into a pocket of 8 diamond, turned the first 3 into a pickaxe then mined some obsidian, used the last 2 to make an enchanting table. went outside and set up some bookshelves, put my Pickaxe into the slot and chose the Lv. 30 enchant, got Fortune 2 so went back down to mine the rest of the diamond, got 5 more diamond. set myself up and entered the End, beat the Dragon and am now the proud owner of the Ender-Dragon Egg.
My Checklist so far...
Book (1/54)
Bow - Power IV (1/54)
Diamond Pickaxe - Fortune II (1/54)
Dragon Egg (1/??)
Iron Pickaxe - Efficiency IV (1/54)
Lava Bucket (6/54)
Sandstone (2/54)
Smooth Sandstone (2/54)
Stone Axe - Efficiency IV (1/54)
Gonna start on tearing down this stronghold for the bricks.
I'm still here as well, I am doing 2 versions of this challenge, One for Vanilla Minecraft and One for Feed the Beast (specifically the Direwolf20 modpack).
With Vanilla, I am currently looking for a good seed to start one, preferably one starting inside a village, My last save corrupted when my minecraft crashed, will be doing double chest with every single item available, will not be taking advantage of in-game exploits such as the Hopper Duplication glitch.
With the DireWolf20 modpack, I will not be using anything that breaks the game, such as EE for transmutation, but I will be using the Thermal Expansion machines to triple my Ore>Ingot intake as I feel it doesn't break the game like EE does. Instead of Double Chest I will be using the Largest available chest which is Diamond.
I won't get any progress done this next week since I am currently in the process of moving, but when I sort my stuff out, I will regularly update as well as posting my progress on Youtube.
PS: IMO, Item frames are a godsend for organising your chests.
Been a long time, but seeing a few posts across the space of several months;
I stopped playing because a combination of factors.
A) My computer decreased in running capacity enough to make playing less and less feasible.
A variety of games on various consoles came out that kept me occupied for literally 12 full months which I do not regret.
Glad to see there was still some continued interest after the fact. If I get my computer fixed, I might resume this. Certain items can be struck off the exempt list, and I'm sure some new ones will have to be added.
I am sort of working on a modified version. I've got a large storage facility with about 400 double chests, organized to have a place for everything in the game, slightly weighted by usefulness/ease of collecting. Cobblestone has 16 doublechests, dirt and gravel and a few other common items have two to four each, while many items have one double chest each. A few rare or less useful items share a chest with other similarly rare or useless items. I don't have a doublechest each of clocks and compasses, but they do share a doublechest, for example. I don't anticipate getting a double chest of diamond blocks, but I do have a double chest for "Gem Blocks" I plan to fill up with a mix of diamond and emerald blocks (the latter from selling farmable items to villagers). I'm on a server with other players, so some will be obtained via trade, but we're a fairly vanilla server and we do everything legit, so that's okay.

Hello all(or any that are still there)! I have been keeping my eye on this challenge for a while and have finally decided to attempt it! I don't have much progress yet, I started my world and set off on a fairly long journey to find a good place to settle, when I found a plain surrounded by different forests. I explored the surrounding area and found the below picture!
Needless to say I am off to a good start!

Well I built a house out of dirt and sand today!
Beat that!
