Really not to be mean or anything, but why 64 stack?
As a correction, and I mean absolutely no disrespect, I collect 54 stacks. The reason? Its exactly one double chest. Why one double chest? It seemed the most reasonable marker of completion. One single chest could have been okay as well, but it just seemed right to me.
Seriously it's too much for too little result. Now tell me you have fun :tongue.gif:
To be completely honest, I do have fun . . . most of the time. I take a lot of pride and enjoyment out of completing my collections. I admit, certain items are tedious beyond reason, yet not hard enough to exclude. My case in point is dispensers. This item takes 7 double chests of stone and 3 double chests of string, plus some extraneous amount of wood. Why is it so annoying though? Because bows, an ingredient in it, do not stack, hence, you can only make them literally ONE at a time. THAT was infuriating. I'm also not looking forward to furnaces or cauldrons; furnaces taking tens of thousands of stone, furnaces doing the same with iron.
But I do have fun, I really do. And part of my paranoia is that I don't feel as if I can "use" my items, because I am a compulsive hoarder. But once I have a full double chest as backup, I finally feel like "Oh, okay, I definitely have enough now, I can use anything else". Once I finish a double chest, that item is completely free to blow through from that point onward. At least, thats how my insanity works.
I totally understand about Skyrim and Oblivion, though I do not like those in particular. I love collecting unique items; I did it with every unique in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and I do it in many RPGs as well.
and ONCE an item is completed, I feel as if I am completely free to use any more. For insta
Alright folks, the snapshots have offered some new opportunities! Snapshot 48 added apples and made it so that you could safely walk on farmland, but it had a horrible bug that caused particle effects and item drops to destroy farmland. Snapshot 49 fixed this, so its good to go!
Even better, Snapshot 49 had two changes that I've noticed; sheep now regrow their wool, as long as they have grass (not tall grass) to eat. AND, it regrows as whatever color they have been dyed, so we now have infinite colored wool, even easier than before. The downside is that Jeb reduced the drop from 2-4 to 1-3, but thats a-okay with me.
As another side effect, and I don't know if this is intended, so I highly recommend you take advantage of it, pumpkins and watermelons no longer need tilled soil for their fruit to grow. It used to be that you have to re-till each spot after taking the pumpking or watermelon, but now they are just growing back on regular dirt. This not only saves time, but saves inventory space and raw materials for hoes. Between the removal of the need to re-till, and the removal of crop trampling (enabling faster movement), pumpkin and watermelon farming are at an all time high as far as efficiency is concerned! Get your agriculture on, folks!

I don't know when you will need 54stack of furnace, since you are already using furnace to smelt your ore XD.
Anyway saying you will stop hoarding after getting all that stuff is kind of an excuse hoarder use to keep collecting. 54 stack of dispencer, do you really want to kill yourself :ohmy.gif:
Well I guess people can have fun with whatever they want, but this would be a little too titious for me ^^
Good luck with your plan, but never forget that at the end you will only have increase your hoarding problem, me I'm trying to limit myself :wink.gif:
Oh, time for a twist. My girlfriend plays minecraft too, and I showed her this thread, and it's now going to be a team effort :smile.gif: (I'm also paying for a cheap server, so we can play at the same time)
Started up a new world to kick off this challenge, spawn right next to a NPC village, first cave I enter has a spide dungeon and a mineshaft, after a few hours of exploring and looting I currently have the following...
Bucket - 1/54
Coal - 2/54
Dirt - 2/54
Gravel - 6/54
Iron Ore - 1/54
Rails - 2/54
Sand - 1/54
Seeds - 3/54
Stone Axe - 4/54
Stone Pickaxe - 8/54
Stone Shovel - 4/54
Stone Sword - 1/54
Water Bucket 1/54
Wheat - 1/54
Wooden Door - 4/54
Wooden Pickaxe - 1/54
Wooden Planks - 1/54
Wooden Stairs - 1/54
I have caught up on the reading of the thread.
I have found a good world to restart my game in. I have been a bit behind everyone else as I have been doing some redecorating of my apartment.
In my new world it is near water...and has a lower lying valley and some nice tall mountains near by.
I do not know where a stronghold is in my world. Same goes for any abandoned mines.
I am redesigning my storage room and I do put it on graph paper first.
@Kastrel I am so glad to see some pics of your world and the buildings you have created.
and I have wrangled up the help of my daughters boyfriend to do the MCEdit on my old world to my new world.
He is tons better at that then I am!! The reason being is again I looked at what I had saved already. I thought the furnaces were easy, Kastrel and I have a full double chest of them.
However I am such a klutz around lava that I die a lot! In the new game I have to be farm more careful with regards to the dying!! (Gravel is my friend around pools of Lava)
As far as the individual (cant remember the name) who said that doing this means we have no life. I beg to differ. I like doing this. I adore this game as I am fully in charge of what I can and do in the game. I have played several other video games and this one is a refreshing change! However you can and I am sure you do play the game just exactly how you want to play it as well Which is ideal for you.
So in amongst my job...taking care of my home and reading and any watching of movies or television...This is what I do:)
Getting back to my old world...I should have everything in place in my new world to transfer my chests and Cozy Cottage to my world. I have an area where I am going to build a castle...and I have been looking at castle pictures from Scotland and Wales. Have not quite picked one out yet. The French Castle Le CHateau d'Usse...now that one is so very pretty!!
My texture pack I use...the cobblestone is the perfect color for the walls!
Oh As well as Chambord. I could go on and on..but as I am long in this post.
Until Next time @Kastrel and @Vault Dweller as well as all of the others who are doing this as well!
I'm working on my bas and I'm on my 3rd chest of cobble now. I'm hoping to finish furnaces and hopefully cobblestairs with this storage area, yep it's big! Only problem is: I've use 20+ iron picks already. What picks do you guys use?
I spend hours on EXP farms enchanting about level 45 diam pics. All of the picks I've enchanted have been Efficiency IV and Unbreaking III.
They've lasted EXTREMELY well. Upwards of 5 real-world days each.

Thank you Jinzha. As I am starting a new world and such I am only using Iron Picks at the moment. I am working on getting the Storage area up and setup for me. Then I will do the enchanting. So any and all hints are very helpful!
PS In my new world I have found a HUGE underground ravine(lack of a better term) and almost got lost! But I get lost easy!
@Jinzha in my old world I had laid out my storage unit on graph paper with Kastrel's storage design. I would like to use that again albeit a tad smaller and higher amount of chests on the walls. I am thinking 5 chests high and using Evilhamster's elevated walkway around the perimeter...IF i could have a movable Ladder like in a big library I would have that...but a walkway would work too...
Just want the whole layout to be better placed than my last world...
(Right out the front door...a HUGE mob trap...*facepalm*)
I just counted the amount of items I want to gather, and I am making 144 chests, and around 10 items that have different locations (cacti at cacti farm, all seeds next to the farm, saplings at the farm, etc.) If I remember correctly(did all the calcs last night while making homework) I am collecting 150 of the items on Kastrels list.
Interesting! Out of curiousity, which items are you not collecting?
Only problem is: I've use 20+ iron picks already. What picks do you guys use?
In my old world, I used iron picks for spelunking and branch mining, but I've been being more iron conservative this round. I only really use them for mining gold and redstone, since I am using a Fortune pick for all lapis and diamonds. In the old version, where there were lower ore amounts, branch mining would virtually always give me an iron profit. I usually went on each branch mining expedition with 10 iron picks, and came back when I was out. I usually came back with 50-80 iron, breaking even at 30.
I WISH apples had dropped more recently. Its going to be very tedious getting them all. I got one stack after chopping 15 stacks of lumber. At that rate, I will not get all of my apples until I've cut 14 more double chests of lumber!
EDIT: I just found out that cookies are now stackable to 64. Now, instead of taking a mere 54 cocoa beans to finish a chest, it takes 432. I find this unreasonable, given the current state of cocoa bean collection, so I am removing it from the list until such time as cocoa beans are reasonable.
@Kastrel figures about the cookies....But I was looking at some of the new things to collect.
I will be at this a while!
@Jinzha when you get your storage area completed and if you feel like posting a snap or two...that would be nice to see it.
I swap between two texture packs for the most part.
Loafcraft (The kitty pastel one)
Painterly
I have Glimmers steam punk one downloaded but I find that the torches for regular ones is too dim. Loafcraft is very bright even at night...but you need to love kitties and pastels to use it! I do have several other ones but they must look good in my Storage area in order to use it.
Whoo boy. Jack'o'lanterns. That was something I never thought I would finish, if you had asked me months ago. Still got a bunch of watermelons to go, but after that, I will be done with watermelon and pumpkin products (barring glistering melons, which I am going to come back to at a later time.)
Apples may be more annoying than my initial estimate. As a reward for my two stacks, I have received NO less than 46 stacks of wood (likely higher, due to tools). Thats a good thing in one sense, but the sheer amount of wood cutting is going to be immense. At the very least I can be certain to finish all my major wood products; fence gates, crafting benches, paintings, chests, and noteblocks. If things continue at this rate, I am most likely going to be able to NEVER mine coal again, because I will have a ludicrous surplus of lumber. I forsee at least 10 extra chests when I am done making all of those things, which in turn translates to 10 chests of charcoal (minus a 12.5% surcharge to cook the wood itself). Benefits, yes, but I'm already tiring of the arborcidal nightmare.
Realization! The incoming massive amount of saplings can diminish or even negate the 12.5% surcharge on making the charcoal in the first place. Nice!
Oh very nice on the update Kastrel! Also good to know about the apples dropping. I am working on getting my storage place all nice and updated. I have yet to find an abandoned mine in my world!
I keep looking...so I will find one some day. I have to read the wiki to get all updated on what to do for brewing and enchanting as well. I have so much to do and work keeps getting in the way!

For abandoned mines, I've found they tend to hover in the 20ish to 40ish range, so branch mining won't find them, and you normally need to go fairly deep, so surface won't do either. Ravines, should you find them, are a great way to find them, since they are blatantly obvious if they intersect.
Also, finally hit 100 items completed! This wood is really helping!
@kastrel I have taken your empty list and i am updating it for my use. As Christmas gets closer right now I have less time to play. But I am taking time out here and there to do it.
@Vault Dweller...do you use Kastrel's list?
i too started a new world...been working on getting my vault area set up. between work and Christmas...well it is taking a tad longer than i would like. I am making it a bit smaller...but going higher up on the walls. Last one was 30x45 or maybe 50. I was running all over the fricking place! It will have a setup of chests in the middle as well. Looking at 25 or 30 by 30. I was looking at a pic of evil hamsters setup and it looks like he has or had a walkway of sorts around it...Anyway...
I always gather everything i can.
I was thinking for my vault area, I would construct into a ravine wall so I can use the ledges to walk around to it. Add some decor then some railings and lava up the floor perhaps.
I have not found a ravine in the new world yet...but i have faith. but i do have a nice area that is at the side of a mountain...i am tunneling into it. I am planning on building a castle on top for looks. The endermen still steal blocks correct.
I am looking up to find if i can put my enchanting setup in the middle of my storage area or if it has to be outside.
(I keep rereading..."and lava up the floor perhaps." :smile.gif: No Lava for me!)
The lava shall far enough away from the chests so that it won't pose a threat.
For any of those concerned, lava does not burn chests. You could safely keep chests UNDER lava without a fear of losing them. However, if a creeper should detonate them, their items could well fly into said lava! Even so, lava is surprisingly storage friendly.
Things have been going fairly slowly. I'm trying to build my castle, but I'm lacking inspiration and the nerve to "start something so big that mistakes will be hours in the correcting". Because of this, I haven't been playing quite so much, but I did finish a few other items.
As a correction, and I mean absolutely no disrespect, I collect 54 stacks. The reason? Its exactly one double chest. Why one double chest? It seemed the most reasonable marker of completion. One single chest could have been okay as well, but it just seemed right to me.

Nice to have 100 of your double chests completed! Grats!!
@Vault Dweller...do you use Kastrel's list?
I always gather everything i can.
