Thats at least 8 new items from this update! 1.9 thread
Yes. I will have to expand my storage system as I expected.
I'm going to wait until I move my base to it's new world, I don't know if that will be 1.9 or 1.10
That would be true if the version number systems used by software used a decimal number system. This doesn't, instead the "." separates major/minor revision numbers.
Note to self and others; moving the contents of 80 full double chests, and several dozen other chests of varying degrees of fullness, from one room to another is an excruciatingly dry and time consuming task.
I can't even begin to try and collect anything right now because in my Minecraft time, I'm still trying to move into my new storage room.
I know how you feel.
In my current project, on the smp I play on, I have around 100 full double chests full of cobble, dirt and gravel. Due to me not thinking things through when I started the project, I placed the storage room for it smack in the middle of two of the rooms. I am maybe 75% done with the project right now.
I have created a storage room off site but actually getting around to transferring all of that is not something I am looking forward to.
I feel for you.
I refuse to use inventory editors, but if I was doing this project on ssp, I would seriously consider using one.
I would just fill the new chests with the inventory editor and then go back and drop some lava on the chests and break them open to destroy the old storage room.
Trying to get games written for windows to work on a Linux machine is like trying to put a diaper on an incontinent buffalo. Sure, you might get it all done, but you'll certainly be left with a huge mess, and it's very time consuming.

Oops, I actually look at all Notch tweets. I already knew that, I just phrased it bad
The nether bricks and the related blocks are going to be a big pain with the length it takes to mine and the 2 sub-items you can get from it. Fences spawn naturally so it won't be too huge a deal and the Nether Warts have no actual use but they drop more of themselves when it is fully grown (only on soulsand). The ghast drops can be put on the 'annoying list' and the gold nuggets aren't too bad considering the spawn rate of pigmen. Good news is that pumpkin seeds are meant to be back in abandoned mines.
In my thoughts, Netherbricks and such probably won't be quite as bad as sandstone.
Ghast tears strike me as worse than annoying; since its VERY time consuming to fill any chest with a single mob's drops, its even moreso for a dangerous and distant flying enemy like a ghast. I expect at least 2 or 3 times more annoying than something like sulfur. I agree, gold nuggets aren't going to be bad, but I think its not quite enough to make gold blocks on the main list; if it takes 81 gold nuggets to make a gold block, thats 279,936 gold nuggets! Who knows if a grinder can even be built for something like that. Netherwarts should be simple enough, though lily pads sound about as hard as flowers, pre-bonemeal exploit. Easy to get a few stacks, hard to get a chest.
I downloaded 1.8...
I made a brand New World
I played it to see how different it was
Chicken eggs like mana from heaven it was so frequent to see them lil chicks pop out another egg.
Just running around and keeping fairly close to my spawn point...I had 7 stacks of eggs in only about
two hours of play time. I thought Eureka! I have discovered Gold! for all the excitement it caused me
So I then decided to explore...well I found scads and scads of clay. Tripping over it more than the chicks
eggs I gathered and more "Eureka This is amazing"!
I made a few chests to hold my treasures while I explored my Brave New World~
I felt brave enough to dig and get some Red-stone, so I could have my ever handy dandy "notebook" (compass) with me.
Well as luck would have it...I went exploring and found lava
I hate Lava A LOT! I had found me an awesome spot.
I had found home...but i did not look where I was going and BAM went just running right into a POOL of it Topside
Freaking TOPSIDE!!
So i took a break for a few days...stretching into a week.
I finally got my pumpkin seeds and multiplied them for my uses. I constructed a semi-auto farm that removes pumpkins and melons with the push of a button, all that needs to be done after is to re-till the soil for further growth.
I haven't updated to 1.9 yet so no pumpkin seeds for me :smile.gif:
I'm currently expanding my storage area and re-arranging all my chests- what a pain. I've also made a few trips to the nether for more glowstone and working on soul sand a bit- almost finished! Unfortunately, I mined all the easy to get glowstone (a LOT of it) back when it dropped only 1 piece of dust and took 9 to craft, so I have to travel far...
Are you guys all on 1.8.1 or 1.9?
I am playing 1.8.1 but I want to wait for the release of 1.9.
It looks really cool and all but I will wait.
P.S.
Anyone using any specific seed for the new world they have created?
I was planning on moving my base to a new world in 1.8. The incompleteness of the update, combined with the announced future changes to world generation caused me to just keep my existing world and update to 1.8. I'll live with ugly transitions for now and move to a new world either in 1.9 or 1.10. I heard 1.8-1.9 transitions are also bad because of the new mushroom biome changing the generation and Notch has said there will be volcano biomes in a future update.
I'd prefer to only have to move once, while realizing Murphy says there will be a significant change probably within a week of my moving so it's probably hopeless :smile.gif:
Edit:
Also, my storage area is a total mess right now. I expanded it significantly, and I am moving and re-arranging all of my chests. I have a bunch of temporary holding chests scattered all over while construction is ongoing and it's getting hard to find things in the temp chests when I have room on my permanent wall for them... Another 3-4 hours of work, and hopefully I'll have some sanity restored :smile.gif:
@Evil I agree completely with the not moving to a new world until after the 1.10 update.
I am just goofing off for now in a new world I created...to see what things look like and so on.
Besides I dont mind going out exploring for new things in my old world:)
@Vault Dweller How is the pumpkin farm going so far? I am looking forward to those as well as watermelons!

I have tried creating other worlds, usually with some goal or another. I go back to my main world and don't use the others for weeks then try playing them again and can't remember what I've done, what I was trying to do, etc so I use them to test things occasionally before building in my main world and that's about it.
Pretty well considering the time I spent constructing it. I have the Pumpkin stalks set up so that they can only grow in one place without overlapping and I have pistons wired underneath the pumpkin growing location so that on the push of a button, any vegetables will pop off instantaneously. I have 20 stalks planted and a watermelon farm mirrored on the opposite side of the farm module. Pics in a moment.
And I rechecked, My world save is 275Mb
Here's my ultra-simple melon farm built into a cubbyhole I dug off to the side of my mob trap collection point:
No pistons, or anything fancy. The chest on the left holds my hoes :dry.gif:
Eventually after migrating to a new world, I'll build a nice automated factory for melons and pumpkins over near my reed, cactus and mushroom farms.
After deleting huge chunks of my world for 1.8, my file size is down to 48MB :smile.gif:
@evil I have not done that. I am not sure how you do that either removing chunks of your world...but it is an option to keep the world for now and add to it with the new 1.8.
@vault I really need to make a watermelon and pumpkin farm now...
It looks so cute!:smile.gif:
I did find out something in my world. I logged on and went to my slime farm and it is as if it never existed. Other things I have built are there and in place just fine.
But my slime farm...gone...I may have brought back a world that was a tad older than what I was expecting to do.
Oh well...that being said...I am off to see if I can get me some chickens!
@jagualar:
Use MCedit, select the general area you want to delete, click expand selection to chunks, select chunk control and hit the 'delete' key on your keyboard. This is from memory, I don't remember the exact names of the buttons, but it's not difficult.
1.9-2 thoughts:
I'm about 90% done with my collection storage area expansion. Tedious work and numerous new additions I read about today AFTER re-organizing my chests. I won't be re-re-organizing any time soon.
Pumpkin seeds- craft a pumpkin into 4 seeds. Pumpkins are no longer rare!
I am nearly done (~80%) building my animal farm area, haven't tried actual breeding yet, but it looks pretty easy. May add a small wheat farm in the area to eliminate having to transport wheat from my other farm. Sheep breed a new sheep with white wool, I hope that gets changed to allow colored wool breeding.
Nether- I deleted the nether from my world save and re-generated a new one hoping to find a stronghold. I haven't found it yet. Pigmen are easy kills, I got about 30 nuggets in an hour. Ghasts a pain- I only amnaged 3 ghast tears in the same time. I'm thinking about setting up an enclosed area to keep ghasts from floating over lava while I'm trying to kill them for tears!
Somebody unlocked the potion code in 1.9-2. I will definitely not be collecting potions, but I will add the ingredients. There's a thread about it in the 1.9 section and a mod that unlocks it in mods if anybody is interested.
@ Evil hamster...gosh those eyes...Ok I am making note of the MCedit
I do that I will just make a few ok maybe not a few but a new storage area...I really do like the look your storage area was at before 1.8
Have you made many changes to it?

I lol'd at 1.10
It would be 2.
1.10 = 1.1

Potions...now I have to see about that too!
Used forever? And none of us have accomplished it.
