Speaking of porkchops . . . something is telling me to hoard them. Its been considered by Jeb and Notch that once hunger is implemented, food will be stackable. Similarly, in the near future, mobs will become persistant; with the exception of sheep, which will regrow their wool, passive mob drops will become much more difficult to come by, since they will rarely respawn. This means that porkchops will become significantly harder to find, and we will need 64x as many of them! They will be similar to walking pumpkins in rarity . . . maybe not that extreme, but not far from it. I don't know if its sane to gather 64 double chests of porkchops . . . 128 if I am to have raw and cooked . . . but I've gotten a few extra chests in case, only 3.
I worry that leather will become similarly hard to get.
Can't remember who it was, Jeb or Notch. They might incorporate the baby animal mob which probably means breeding!
EDIT: And my world just got corrupted by the animal spawning glitch. My whole screen is pretty much MILLIONS of chickens.....
Have you tried backing up your save, then reinstalling Minecraft?
Uh no. Millions of chicken spawn, making it impossible to play. Reinstalling doesn't work. Anyone who downloads the save it affects....http://www.mediafire.com/?7afgf5qhgpxktym. I even tried using MCEdit to teleport me, but the chickens JUST KEPT SPAWNING. The chickens even keep spawning when you're game is paused....
Kastrel, I require pictures of your storage facilities. I use the compact double chests with stairs on top trick for ease of use, if I ever fill up all those chests, I just make another chamber below with the exact same layout but a different floor.
My storage facility looks like this:
They are about 12 blocks across, on 3 out of 4 walls in two different rooms. I also have a vault for rare items (diamonds, cocoa beans, pumpkins) and a room for item storage which is somewhat less efficient.
I can no longer add another floor, as all the space from bedrock to surface is taken up with farms and other facilities.

I think he meant your ACTUAL facility, like INGAME.
I use a very similar system, but with fenceposts instead of stairs. Stairs letting light through and not blocking chests from opening seems exploity to me, and likely to be fixed by a future update. Coulda sworn I heard a recent update fixed it, in fact. With a sign in front of each fencepost, having the flat surface of the back of a block of stairs is not particularly vital anyways.

I've now installed 2 of your slime farms in my world. One which is 4 floors, 3 chunks long and one chunk wide, then another that is 2 chunks long, one chunk wide, and three floors.

I have a feeling that by the time all is said and done, even fences won't be able to be placed on top of chests. Hopefully, by that time, I will have most of my resources gathered, and will be able to put things in a more aesthetically pleasing, albeit less space efficient, setup.

That's overdoing it, greatly. I have a double chest of slimeballs with 4 floors, one chunk.

It may be, but it will speed things up quite a bit. I do not look forward to getting another double chest of slimeballs for my pistons, even with my 3x1 chunk set up.
I too must be stalking you Kastrel. :unsure.gif: However as real life has interrupted me the last few days I have not played. However after work and chores are done today then I am back on playing. I have expanded my floor where all the chests are kept and when all said and done it will be 41x29 if my grid paper is showing up correctly.
I wanted all of my chests (well as much as possible) on one floor. Your schematics of your farms and such are amazing!

I'm glad they've been useful to you! It means they've served their purpose.
Went on a MAJOR expedition to increase my world size. Unfortunately, it went from 75 to 105, quite a dramatic increase. But the payoffs were high! I found about 90 pumpkins, 11 stacks of clay BLOCKS (and there is more out there I had to pass up), and a surface dungeon with 3 cocoa beans, which I always appreciate.

If anyone can suggest a realistic to build, high yield mob grinder, I'm all ears. It took everything I had to push to a double chest of gunpowder, and I just can't see doing it 5 more times. Realistic to build means I can build it in around 20 hours. I don't mind putting in the time, but I can't build one of the ultra spawners like Biofactory. That would literally require clearing, surface to bedrock, the entire spawn zone, and I just don't have that in me. I keep searching Ethoslabs and Docm, but all I find are mobavators, specifically designed to harness mob flow, not provide mass items. I need a specific link.
I suppose in a pinch, I could build Kiershar's sky trap. Its a bit extreme, but I think I could handle such a task.
there is a surface to bedrock 40k items per hour i stood in it and got 1 double chest of gunpowder in about 10 minutes it SUPER fast but its about 34 by 18 if you want it smaller i think smallest highest is 40ish it says

Why is that? I'm a little sick and couldn't bother to comprehend the instructions tonight. If not that, I will probably do Kiershar's sky trap.
Oops, it was another one I was thinking of, well anyway, Kiershar's gives you more than you'' ever need (I built it before) And it's pretty quick (6-8 hours)

The sky trap? Doesn't it take massive amounts of cave clearing?

I'm quite the shady customer.
