I would like to share with you my survival world and the settlement I have built up in 1.12 (I started in January to help get me through my GCSE exams). This world has become my most built up world very quickly and I am continuing to develop it throughout my lengthy summer break (and probably throughout 6th form). Now that the Update Aquatic has been released I have been quick to update and optimise the world (not before making a backup mind you) and couldn't wait to begin playing with the new features.
My original plan was to travel into the new 1.13 chunks and find a nice area to settle in and build up a new settlement, and then later link back to my old settlement via a nether tunnel system. I have decided to call my original settlement and the old 1.12 chunks the "Old World" and the new 1.13 chunks the "New World". I found the new location and built up a quick house and started to clear the land to begin construction of my new settlement when I thought again about this plan. I began to wonder why I decided to move in the first place. After all, wouldn't it be better just to continue to develop the Old World, and only venture into 1.13 chunks for the new items? I haven't made any more progress on the world as I have a decision to make.
I have plans to build a large storage barn for blocks and items, animal farms, a nice modern-style house, a treasure room, an armoury (similar to Hypixel's Hall of Weapons in the Warlords lobby) and a Nether hub.
Now here's where I need some advice. I can either continue with my original plan and build in the New World and later link it to the Old World, or I can travel back to the Old World with my loot from the 1.13 oceans and continue to develop it. I am interested to see what other survival players would do in this situation, as I don't want to end up disliking my decision and feel like I have to retire the world and start anew; I want this to be my final survival map ever, one that I can just continue to play on. Please leave your thoughts on the matter below (as well as general thoughts of my Old World settlement).
I shall end this post with screenshots of both "worlds" so you can get a better understanding. Bear in mind that these screenshots were taken at different times (explaining the sudden jump in the quality of my gear). I even went back onto the backup before I travelled to get more screenshots of the Old World. Enjoy I guess.
My Old World creations:
This is my first house. It is a copy of paulsoaresjr's viking cabin.
Here's a view of the mountain in which my cabin resides. There's a railway going through the mountain, and my unimpressive gateway to the Nether is also there.
Here's the cave leading to my mine. There is a mineshaft I fixed up as well as a skeleton farm.
This is a shot of (most of) my settlement. My cabin can be seen in the top right corner. I decided to built my larger structures in a more spacious location to avoid destroying the mountain range. The large wood building is my throne room, where I house some valuable loot. The stone building is the library which contains a map wall. My armoury and tiny house can also be seen here.
Just out of view in the last picture is a shrine palace I was working on which houses my enchanting table. I was planning on building a beacon in here when I got around to collecting enough gold.
Finally, here is the castle I was working on. It was designed to be a surface level addition to the stronghold that it sits above. I haven't got round to finishing it yet and plan to build an even bigger armoury once it is complete.
The New World so far:
Here's the plot of land I decided on. I liked the mountain and plains are always a good place to start for constructing a large settlement. As you can see, I have travelled a few thousand blocks out from where the Old World is, however a Nether highway would solve travel issues.
Here you can see the terrible house I crudely constructed when I got here.
Inside the house I have laid down my shulker boxes with all of my precious items. These include practical materials, enchantments, potions, personal items (such as retired weapons for an armoury or maps) and actual treasures from the End and the new aquatic ruins. All of this was neatly packed up in my ender chest. Also, my first trident!
(not really related) Well what I would do, considering they're called Old World and New World, I would make Old World a medieval styled build, and make New World futuristic and redstone-y and all that, and then make a sort of time rift using nether portals.
