I was google searching for sandbox games and found Minecraft while it was still in classic.
I didn't get very interested in it, but way later at the ROBLOX forums people started talking about it. I watched a couple let's plays of the now released alpha version and eventually bought it.
I was in a tech class at my school and one of the biggest nerds(besides the teacher) i'd ever met had found it and was playing one day in class. within the week all 15 of us were playing and had our less-geeky friends playing it too
word of mouth and indy game sites led to small dedicated fanbase that exploded onto youtube after reaching a sufficient size(around when they released Alpha) the originality and many features that began to be added turned a simple game about breaking dirt into an addicting time-sink of amazing proportions. that's all I got.
The first place I saw Minecraft was in an IGN review. I thought it looked pretty interesting, but there were other games I wanted.
About 6 months later, my best friend got Minecraft, and began telling me to get it. Eventually, I caved in, and got the game. To this day, I don't regret it.
There are so many lets play of minecraft on youtube.
Thats where all the sales are coming from
This is how I heard of it, though if memory serves, I was looking up World of Warcraft videos, when I saw this strange blocky minecraft thing, been playing ever since.
I looked up building games on google, and I saw like, pages and pages of awesome creations of minecraft. And so I bought the game, and I still play today, around 2 years later.

There's yet more to come!
The first things that I saw from Minecraft were on Tumblr: memes, images, videos.
On topic, I found it when I made a typo when I was googling "minecart" and I spelled it "minecrat".
My life was changed that day...
I am ninja'd far too often.
Doesn't anybodys life change when they discover Minecraft?
I saw the video of a roller ciaster on notch's channel then watched more videos which got me into it during beta 1.2.
Jeb = 1337
