Had a pretty bad one yesterday. Our server used to use Spigot, an offshoot of the Bukkit plugin framework, in order to use some anti-griefing plugins like a block logger and chest locking (we're otherwise pretty darn Vanilla). But Spigot didn't have a 1.8-compatible version yet, so when 1.8 came out, we went to pure Vanilla for a while. No, I didn't get griefed, we've got a good bunch of players and mostly don't do that kind of thing to each other. But my fellow admin who actually runs the behind-the-scenes tech side of the server decided to try out the latest not-quite-stable development version of Spigot to see how well it worked. And accidentally started the server up with Minecraft 1.7 somehow. He realized his mistake almost at once and stopped the process, so it was only thus loaded for about 5 seconds.
Unfortunately, when Minecraft updated to 1.8, it changed the format for saving the data for the items in chests and such, So if you load up a world in 1.8, 1.8 has code to update 1.7 maps to 1.8 format. Minecraft 1.7 does not have code to convert 1.8 maps to 1.7. because the 1.8 format hadn't been invented yet when 1.7 was written. So whatever chunks had last been loaded in memory were briefly and incorrectly converted to 1.7 format, losing all data for what was in chests in the process. And guess who had been the last one to be on the server the night before? And had logged out in the middle of his main storage room at his base? And thus lost essentially EVERYTHING IN EVERY CHEST IN A 500-CHEST STORAGE ROOM? All my enchanted gear, all my diamonds and ores, all my dungeon loot, all my grinder loot, all my harvested crops, all my building materials, everything. My personal inventory on my body and my enderchest were safe, but that's it. Months of work, gone in a second. If it had affected more than just my base, we probably would have reset the map. As it was, I had to use my admin powers to /give myself replacements for a few key items that I happened to remember exactly how much I'd had, but most of the stuff I just wrote off as eaten-by-glitch and lived with the loss. I pride myself on not abusing my admin powers and HATE having to use commands like /give or teleporting.

Nope, mojang (now microsoft) actully said that would happen in all worlds when we updated.

There have been many times I wish that I haven't experienced in Minecraft, but there is one that I will never forget.
The curse that fell upon me when I opened Minecraft for the first time.
Mob attack? If not, What is it?

On my first day of MC I did Survival mode and was so scared by the sight of a zombie I stuck myself in a hole, and starved to death. (I didn't know anything about changing modes and such things then!!)
After that I played only Creative for a while... then one day I went into Survival, just to try. I got some wood, stuck myself into a hole, made some wooden tools and sulked my first night away. I made a set of torches and everything went smoothly for a while inside my hole. Then my hunger bar began to drop so I went out of my hole. It was night but luckly a cluster of mushrooms and two cows was right in front of me, so I killed all the animals and got the mushrooms. And when I returned to my hole...A zombie pigman was there so I killed him. I didn't think to close the hole I used to enter my hole. And pretty soon......well, if I say there was four more zombie pigman outside and only a wooden pickaxe in my hand can you make out the rest of the story?

My worst moment was when I was tunneling at level 12 in XBOX, and I found a patch of 8 diamonds. I mined them and proceeded to go back to the surface. Now, my tunnel went through a particularly lava filled part of the underground. Usually I take precautions by carrying dirt blocks with me so that I can place them on either side of my tunnel, as well as a bucket of water to turn lava into obsidian, but I had neglected my dirt blocks. the parts of the cave I was in were pretty dark. A Creeper I didn't see or hear blew me into the lava, and then a Skeleton shot me to death (I wasn't wearing armor). 8 diamonds and 3 stacks or Redstone were lost that day. I quit the world for about a week.

I am the biggest Minecraft nerd in the group. I've spent so long researching the game and looking at the code that I will know almost anything about the behavior of the game. As a derivative of that, I am also a great authority on how to play the game. So if you're the biggest noob on the server, given time and practice, I can help you get better than the admin. My IGN is ArcFighter300.

My worst moment was probably the great creeper apocalypse of yesterday. I killed 5 creepers in quick succession with a stone sword, I lost a lot of innocent buildings in the fray, it took a half hour of rebuilding to make my village perfect again, but at least I survived. But a close second would be when lost my house with chests full of ore, and I had to rebuild.
My worst moment is when I was walking around in my bros world, I was playing in minecraft pe, and he was digging strait down, I didnt see the hole, I went to go get zome wood, then fell down the hole and died, I lauphed but I was mad because I had iorn and some wheat and a bunch of saplings.
Once I was caving and some creeper decided to scare me to death by landing on top of me and my hot bar was slotted on my eft 4 for 3 unb 3 pick and I freaked.... I accidentally pressed q and I puked out my pick just in time for the creeper to blow it up....
Having the Nether side of my portal spawn camped by pigmen. Killed once and kept trying to go back to get my stuff but they kept killing me before the loading screen disappeared. Ended up losing a bunch of nether drops, and a couple of diamond tools. Wasn't the worst loss, but was so frustrating as I could was constantly picking up the items just before dying. A few of them scattered back to the overworld but not the ones I really wanted.

"It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for the winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. And also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?"
I Was In A Huge Mine, At Level 10ish, And I Had A Diamond Pickaxe And I Was Going To Find Some Obsidian So I Could Go To The Nether. I Get About 16 Diamonds, 5 Obsidian, And Then I Hear Lava. I Accidently Deleted A Brick And Lava Was Flowing In! And Then It Slowly Killed Me. Then, When I Respawned, It Said " Your Home Bed Is Missing Or Obstructed " And Then I Started Building A New House And Saw My Torches! Grr!
That would make me rage quit on the game if that happens to me!

Okay, this huge series of events happened. I was on my way to the end to kill the enderdragon. I placed the eyes in the frame and was about to jump in when all of the sudden I hear a hissing noise behind me. I made it out of the blast radius fortunately but what i didn't see was that the creeper actually launched a ton of silverfish and skeletons into the portal. I jump in and am instantly demolished.

I would just use /give, as it is offical that it is a glitch with 1.8.
