Depends...an NPC village can give you a fairly nice home, until you get enough good resources. I suggest start with a simple, square wooden house when you first start out. Once you have enough resources, you can build your own epic base.

I'm still using Windows 7.
I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
At first I was like, you know what, time for my good deed of the day. Help some poor guy with ideas, but than I read it and now feel I need to help you in a different way.
Hello guys(<- Period or Comma here) i(<-Capitalize) want to build a house on my survival world but(<-Comma or new sentence) i(<-Capitalize) dont(<-Apostrophe) know what to build.Im(<-Another one) not good on(<-I barley understand what "Good on building.",means) building(<-Period)
thanks(<-I know its not technically grammar but its always nice to capitalize these)
Thank you for indulging a grammar Nazi. Good day to you,sir!
Also building off Lolcreeper, I would say just start small, like a wooden box or something, and just keep adding things and taking away crappy bits, after a bit of this process I usually end up with a pretty nice house. Hope I helped!
Also a nice effect is to make your walls have two different materials, like the top and bottom wood and middle brick or some other pattern.

Hello there, you may not know it yet, but what you really need is to define your own style of house. I always like to start off with a cubicle like house made of wood in the beginning to provide nice shelter from zombies. However, now I have gravitated towards other types of buildings, like circular houses with dome roofs. The more experience you have in the game, the more diversity you want in your houses. So define your own style as you go, don't adopt the style of another person.
I believe this post is sufficiently grammar Nazi proof, so I bid thee farewell.

The way i make my houses, is build it in the side of a mountain cave. Then have a roof with fence railings and glass for the roof floors. Next, make sure you have glass windows to see out. Then the inside should have a main room near the entrance of your home, with things like a chess with unimportant items, such as stone tools and weak iron tools. Then have a tunnel go back into you cave home, making that your main place to store important items in chests and have your wolves back there. If you get stuck in an invasion, ALWAYS ALWAYS have secret exits to escape your home. Thats my dream house in minecraft
i usually make houses with no corners and slabs (but not on the actual blocks) for a roof.Also, if you have a wolf, have an emergency wolf button. have a wolf sitting on a trapdoor wired up to several buttons across your world. Have water under the trapdoor. when you press a button, a wolf will drop down into the water, causing it to stand and therefore teleport to you, should you need help.You'll need a lot of redstone though.
Let your imagination go wild. The sky's the limit! Build your dream house! If you really want sketch your house first and brainstorm.you can also look at properties for sale and try to build that house or build the house that you are living in!
Thanks.
Look it up
Paulsoaresjr has a tutorial on it.

How not to look like a total fool in the forum games
Use the new slime blocks to make it move!
Let's do some math.
1/3 = 0.333...
1/3 * 3 = 1
0.333... * 3 = 0.999...
1 = 0.999...
1 - 0.999... = 0.999... - 0.999...
0.0...1 = 0
0.0...1 * 10... = 0 * 10...
1 = 0
Hollow out a mountain lol and put a door on it
