I have been moving along on my latest large scale survival build ( a castle, naturally) and am looking to see if there is any interest in a Work In Progress thread. It is a castle based heavily off of Beaumaris Castle in Wales, and both using some artist impressions of what it may have looked like if it had been completed and my own ideas to finish it off.
I'll leave a screenshot of progress so far and let me know if there is interest in a WIP thread or I'll just post some pictures once it is complete. Another forum member suggested encouragement from others is a good way to help me keep focused and drive to the finish line so that is why I'm am throwing this out there.
Also, this castle needs a name so throw out some ideas!
A long way to go but looking good so far. I also plan to add a village and maybe a harbor/docks but one thing at a time for once!
Nice adaptation of Beaumaris :>: I think the concentric ring castles are a better fit for MC than the later star-forts.
Are you also intending to build the domestic structures planned for the inner ward of original? or adding a sea gate? (The latter looks like it would be quite a terraforming project.)
WRT WIP updates:
Other than some of the detail work (eg. the gatehouse interiors), much of this looks to be "just" wallbuilding; tiimeconsuming and impressive when finished, but not an especially interesting process in and of itself….
So close ups and interiors of features such as the wall towers would be more interesting to me than a once-an-N progress overview.

I am intending to fully flush this out and detail. I usually start with roughing in the main walls/structures and then start filling in and detailing. I am almost done with the main walls of the inner walls/keep. I will be building the interior structures as well including hall and kitchens, stables, barracks, chapel, apartments, and such.
I know the wall building isn't very interesting but it's a starting point. The main purpose of the thread was to gauge interest in a proper WIP so I didn't put to much effort into the post yet. I can certainly get some detail pictures, once there is detail of course.
I did/am building the Gate Next the Sea, or at least my version of it based on the diagrams and such that I have found. The outer ward section of it is mostly complete (still detailing to do just like every other bit of the project), and I think I will stick a small ship at the dock. I'll throw up a screenshot of that section as it is so far. I've also started the small "town wall" that I intend to wrap around the planned village later. Once I finish the rough wall building (likely tonight) I will probably work on getting the outer curtain wall detailed. From the photos I've found there isn't much to that other than a small interior walkway with inward facing windows/doorways. The outer gatehouses in the outer wall will have a little more to them.
I have plenty of terraforming to do as I had to kinda invade a couple large hills to get a large enough and flat enough spot for the project. I have been burning through diamonds and xp on enchanted tools that's for sure.
Here's the sea gate screenshot, and maybe I'll try to start getting some closer detail screenshots in case this thread starts to get more interest.

Well it took an extra day but all the main wall and tower structure is roughly complete. I also got started on some terraforming to meld in the hills I had to cut into. From here I plan to continue the terraforming and get the stone in the outer ward replaced with dirt. Detailing will likely begin with the outer wall, but I need to gather more stone (hopefully from terraforming or else it's back to the mines). You can now start to get a good feel for the scale of the project. Here are a couple shots of the inner ward from the top of the wall and the ground. Lots of room for the domestic structures!
I'll still thinking about the name, I like the thought behind Bearmaris but it's not really growing on me yet. But I have some time thats for sure!

Still needs a name, too.

Quick progress :>: (by my standards at least)
Now that I see the reverse angle, I can spot the sea gate at the left in the first pic (the ocean it's on sort of gets lost in the mist in that pic).
RE a name:
Might be a bit trite, but :drumroll: Bearmaris might be properly allusive of both the original and its MC interpreter...
