I have a mob trap running now for about 16 hours. (left it on last night when I quit, went to work today, about to go home.) So I am expecting to have a ton of supplies to make TNT.
I have a 4 mountains I need to remove in my world, and want to know what is the best way to place TNT so it destroys the maximum amount of blocks, and the best way to chain them together. I dont care about losing materials. Also, are there any blocks that do not block TNT blasts? Like signs, fences, doors, ect?
I am looking forward to a night of destruction :biggrin.gif:
Okay, so nobody even read his post? He doesn't have infinate TNT, he wants to use as little as possible to destroy mountains. I sadly can't help you, although I suggest you just do some testing to see how far apart you have to space the TNT so they set each other off.

an effective method I've found is digging a 1x1 hole the depth you want, then filling the hole by staggering TNT and dirt. 1 TNT block every 2 dirt blocks usually gets all of them to chain-react. 3 might work, but I havnt tested it much. Just repeat that wherever you want destroyed.
Tested a bit. If you use the previous guy's 1x1 hole method, it does NOT work with 3 dirt in the middle, and it IS quite effective. If you do it horizontally, 4 blocks of air in between each TNT is enough to set the next one off. Hold on while I test removing this mountain here.
For stone.Place 1 tnt leave 3 spaces place 1 tnt and repeat
For dist Place 1 tnt leave 4 spaces place 1 tnt and repeat
For Sand same as above but 5 spaces.
This is my basic configuration for max efficiently.

I haven't used this method but it looks to like it would be one of the best methods to use for leveling mountains. I would do a small test hole to get a feel for the radius in stone, then just drill a pattern of these down to the level you want your mountain leveled then set them all off.
Pocket TNT in a small space and ignite it. TNT in pockets creates a larger hole and can be controlled with the right stuff.
Depending on how big this mountain is, you could try TNT mining, were you dig a 3 deep hole 3 blocks above the ground you want to keep. Leaving the hole open, you ignite it, and it leaves a 4X3X3 hole in the wall. Then, place a block of dirt 3 blocks in, set TNT on top of that and blow it up. It creates a hole slightly bigger and taller, and works really well.
start at the top, dig down as many blocks as you can WITHOUT falling into the hole. Then place a tnt, activate, run. it should make a 3x3 square (i think), just keep doing this until you're just below the ground level, then fill it back in with dirt to make it look more natural. I've demolished small hills like this, but if you're talking like a mountain going over cloud layer.. well it'll take some time and tons of tnt.

Tested more. A line of TNT through solid rock, 4 spaces in between, gives you a perfect tunnel, 4 high and 3 wide. Of course, your mountain being naturally generated, the dirt and gravel pockets will take more damage.
However, if you want a somewhat effective method, I suggest doing Two spaces between each tunnel. Doing this for the entire length of the mountain will remove the rock two above the TNT. Keep this in mind when planning your TNT placement. Try to get it so that nothing is wasted.
Also, upon further testing, I found that leaving a block or three open on some of the TNT faces will make a much, much bigger explosion.

I used this method and was able to clear out several large sections of of land around my construction site. I really just had a couple of hills, prolly 60x60x15 sections. It looks like some meteors hit my town now, so going to have to do a bit of clean up work. I went through 2 stacks of tnt before running out of time, next time I'll post some pics.

I heard that to just level mountains efficiently, explode 3 TNT in the same location. Continue until mountain completely exploded. Also, why not use MCEdit to level mountains?
You can put a gap of 3 blocks between 2 or more TNT blocks and when one ignites, it will set the other off, in a chain reaction. Other than proper spacing and planning, you could cover the mountain randomly with fire, lava, and TNT and watch the mountain melt into a sea of nothing but pain.

for dirt you place tnt then 4 blocks of air (horizontally) then another tnt, just keep repeating that until you get a large grid covering your mountain.
for stone you do the same thing just only 3 blocks of air in-between.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.

Basically, you do it like this instead of this.
