First couple days hunger not a factor. Make a starter base, go digging. Emerge when start losing hunger, find whatever is abundant in area, kill, cook, eat. Then setup a few farms. Once farms are going, its whatever catches the eye, most often either steak or chicken.
Doesn't seem very appetizing but I use extra sheep from my mob farm as a meat, and chicken to a lesser extent. I have an unnecessarily large wheat farm as an emergency backup supply.
My main food usually steaks or cooked porkchops, sometimes I bring cooked chicken or cooked mutton in my inventory when I run out of steak and porkchop

I usually go for cooked pork, or beef, I like how they heal a solid 4 hearts
Although recently, I gave myself a vegan challenge to spice things up and have been eating pretty much only bread, started off difficult, but now that I have a massive farm it's not so bad

I always find it easy to do potato farms early game. Either find a village or kill a zombie and get lucky. Only on the first few nights will i be eating apples or cooked meats
In my new world I'm using an afk fish farm, so I have like 2 double chests full of cooked fish, since I have an autosmelter, so that's my main diet. I would like to make a larger scale version of mumbo jumbo's cow farm thingy, and instead of dropping into a 1x1 area, they get dropped into say, a little room where you can kill them after they fall through lava to also get XP. It would be pointless but, y'know, that's just Minecraft, I guess.

I've had good results from this farm. You can set it to automatically kill the cows for you, or wait until you arrive to kill them yourself for XP and Looting III enhancement of drop rates. I've found it easy enough to modify slightly for use with pigs and sheep as well.

Nice farm, but my idea was to have them in a holding area ontop of some sticky pistons, and then use a t-flip flop (for looks cause buttons look better) and then they drop down through 1 block of lava into a 3x3 space and I can hit them with looting 3 for instant cooked steak, and more of it. Plus XP
EDIT: Of course if I get Fire Aspect my idea would be obsolete.

Well, if you're trying to get XP, why not settle for raw steak that you can cook in a furnace for even more XP? Plus if you use the lava-cooking feature, you can get flaming steak here, too. I made special gold swords for use in my version of this system, with Sharp 5, Sweep Edge 3, Loot 3, Fire Aspect 2, Unbreaking 3, and Mending. A few seconds of suffocation to weaken them, then a whack with the special sword, and I get a bunch of steak or pork, some pre-cooked some not.

Baked potatoes early on and any kind of cooked meat later on! Does the hunger good.
Is pumpkin Pie or Chicken a better primary food? I have plenty of both, and was curious what yawl think ?
Vanilla Survival MC. non-modded, only Optifine and Bdcraft graphics -
I Usually go with Steak while also using Baked Potatoes on occasion.

I mostly just eat whatever I can find early-game, then mostly steak mid-game, and then steak and cakes late game.

I breed up my animals, kill them all except for the babies, and then I cook the food.
