For me the choice is normally between forest/plains (I usually find them together) or extreme hills. With forests you get lots of free wood and lush, green grass. With extreme hills you get epic terrain, emeralds, and silverfish blocks... oh wait, that's a bad thing.
I don't particularly like the taiga and ice plains biomes that much (TOO MUCH WHITE!! ), and jungles would be nice too if I didn't keep spawning in them. Oceans are meh, and I've only ever seen two mushroom islands since I started playing Minecraft at 1.4.6, only one of which I encountered randomly (the other one I used a published seed for.)
I live on the very edge of a forest biome! Also, (although unrelated) my house has been destroyed by creepers VERY many times. I should live somewhere else.

tough decision.
I'll say all biomes, since I build most of my home way up in the sky. With an animal farm on the ground. Sometimes it helps to get an already made generated building to start out with. Which I prefer the Jungle temple.

I am a problem seeker, so I can solve them. When I see a problem, that I did, I try to fix it. When there are problems I can't fix, I ask for help. But when people wants to make problems, even unknowingly, I try to stop them. Sometimes I get hurt, but will stand up after I fall.
It either has to be on something tall (Mountain or tree) or in a cave. I tend to manipulate the environment into my base, may it be in design, defense, or just hallowing something else and calling it my home.
(So normally extreme hills, sometimes jungle)
I play on one of those pre-made realms worlds, and it is just a mountain in the middle of the ocean. It makes it a challenge becasue we have to go far off the island to get most resources.
A small plain area surrounded by a forest with a few convenient openings here and there feeding into the larger plains.
To the West there is a river past the trees with extreme hills and the largest waterfall I've seen in this game, although I have not touched that area much.

On my server, I live in the 'the villat of $13.99 all day breakfasts' next to mt. lair, in a plains biome.

I love the snow biome especially when you can create a warm and comfy home with a fireplace.

I really like to settle in extreme hills. Or if there is not one nearby I will burrow into any hill/mountain I can find.
I live in a plains biome in a Large Biomes survival world. Plains are my favorite and they're best with Large Biomes.
