I have been working on my minecraft game for a month, and now all of a sudden I have run into some stone blocks that won't break. I have been playing in survival mode with the difficulty set to peaceful mode. Does this have something to do with it?
Could you describe them better? If they won't break and you're using the most powerful tools, they're probably bedrock (very dark, with flecks of white). Bedrock is just the bottom of the world.
If they're very dark and sorta purplish, then they're obsidian. You would need a diamond pickaxe to break it.

The difficulty level has nothing to do with it.
They are with out a doubt stone! Not cobblestone, not stone bricks, and certainly not bedrock. Bedrock is black with white! These are grey with light grey.

It would help if you could show us a screenshot.

What pickaxe are you using? Have you tried searching the wiki? In order for someone to help you, you need to provide more information. I am assuming you are playing in single player, do you have any mods installed?

And I have tried to use iron and diamond picks on them. I also have a problem with wood blocks too. If I have no tools I should be able to punch a tree trunk and get wood out of it. But I can't punch the tree/ wood. I can only use an axe on wood and can only use a pick on stone.
Not to be terse, but what good would a screen shot do? It's a STONE block. You do know what those look like right? You might have a different texture pack than the standard one, so a screen shot of my STONE blocks Might be different than yours.
I don't have any mods or even single player commands installed, I'm kind of a tech tard in that nature. How would I get set to adventure mode, and how can I reverse it?
To be more precise, it's not all of the stone blocks that won't break. But I can be down at level 14 and 15 and I'll have to divert my shaft around a couple of stone blocks now and then because they won't break with any tool. Not even TNT.
It seems like a glitch to me. I remember running into something similar on xbox version, but it's very possible the same thing could happen on PC version as well.
You're definitely in Adventure mode. Type /gamemode s and see if that helps. If you don't have permissions, open your world to LAN in Survival and try again.
Thank you to the ones that did help. And to the ones that didnt help...well I'll just leave it at that. I was somehow in adventure mode or something like it, and have fixed the problem.
Wow, you are incredibly rude for someone asking for help! Every single person on this thread was only trying to help you.
its not rude to admonish those that are spamming. Simply put, if you dont know then you should keep quite. Or maybe I, who have only been playing minecraft for a month, should start thinking that i know all and post as often as I can on other peoples threads when they are asking for help. Next time i see a thread about someone not being able to break a block Im just going to assume they are stupid beyond belief, and tell them "it has to be bedrock". Heck that's easy, i dont even have to read the post. I'll just go post to post, and say "it has to be bedrock". Do you see the point. I dont need someone that has been playing for 3 weeks acting like they know everything. And you dont need that either.

Nobody here was spamming. Everyone was trying to help you. If all the people who don't know what the problem is kept quiet, you would probably never find the solution to your problem, people are just suggesting things for you to try. Even if they aren't sure that it will work.
P.S. You said: "I don't need someone who has been playing for 3 weeks acting like they know everything." Well, hate to break it to you, but the forums doesn't need someone who's been playing for 4 weeks acting like he is above all others.

The thing is, you stated your problem so vaguely at first that no one knew how to help you.
So, people made guesses. You refused to post pictures, so guesses was all they could offer.
"Stone blocks" is really vague. And your original post makes it sound like you're a new player who just ran into bedrock for the first time.

You should try reading before randomly typing useless things on a forum thread.

You're in adventure mode, my friend.
However, it would help to provide us with a screenshot just in case, and if you're using a texture pack tell us which one it is.
