This is the weirdest thing ever in minecraft at least i think it is.
Gold tools last short and why do they last shorter than wood? All i think is because of greediness of people who like gold. What about diamonds? It's valuable than gold... Also i think gold is weak because when you smelted the ore, It becomes weaker.
Gold is like the most malleable element in existance (maybe there is another but it is pretty damn Close). So it wouldn't make sense that a Gold pick löasts longer than iron would it ?

Would you like to know the atomic structure of a piece of bread?
Yeah, what MadScientist said. The only thing weaker would be quartz. Minecraft pretty much got that right on the nose with gold. Not with obsidian though. That stuff is apparently really brittle in real life, despite being ridiculously tough to break in Minecraft.
Well Obsidian is a volcanic glass. Although the Aztecs used to make some Kind of ritual sword from it, I do NOT recommend using one! May break and cause collateral damage.

Gold is mainly used in the recipes for golden apples, glistering melons, and golden carrots. Gold's only purpose is for that I guess, and also aesthetics (gold blocks). Maybe someone would make gold tools just for the fact they have a plethora of it, and diamonds are much more valuable, and it makes sense that they're hard since diamonds are one of the hardest materials, but still doesn't make sense because a diamond is hard on the context that if you scratch something with it it won't break. However, forcefully smashing it against stone will probably shatter it instantaneously.

IRL, Obsidian is less durable than stone but is really really sharp.
If there were to be an obsidian sword in Minecraft it should be in between wood and stone as durability and do more damage than diamond.
Or it could be unrealistic like obsidian itself is and be insanely durable and probably doing lots of damage based on the unrealistic fact that you need to build a diamond pickaxe to harvest it. I once found some obsidian on the ground in hawaii and I dropped a rock on it (semi-accidentally) and it broke and I could pick it up.
Diamonds, although the strongest material on earth, are brittle. They are a slightly more compact version of the graphite in pencils. Gold is a good conductor though, at least they got that right.

Gold is a poor conductor. There's a reason why people use it as jewelry and not for wiring your house.

Lolwut. Gold is a better conductor than copper (although, technically copper is better and silver is the best. Gold is preferred because it doesn't corrode). We don't use it in houses because it's expensive and people would rather wear it around their necks instead of making it useful.
Gold is not very durable, It wouldn't make a good weapon. Also if it was stronger in Minecraft, the strengths and durability of other tools made with different materials might need tinkering with.
The soft gold is only if its pure, it can be really hard a durable. The real reason it was made like this was a reference on how Notch viewed the inflation of gold so he did this on purpose
Gold is a very soft metal. You can bend it with your teeth. In fact, that's how jewelers check whether or not it's authentic gold.
Not true at all.
I've never seen, nor heard of a jeweler biting a piece of gold (or suspected gold). I sure as h*** wouldn't want a jeweler biting a wedding ring or anything I'd be wearing.

Just because you never heard about it doesn't mean that it isn't true. Also, I know that they do that to make sure it is pure gold.

Are you retarded? The most important pieces of your computer have GOLD ON IT, guess why? Gold is one of the best conductors.
