Step one: Hit tree until wood
Step two: Make wood pickaxe
Step three: Cobble!
Step four: Stone tools
Step five: Wander
Step six: Find and kill sheep
Do you have three wool?
Yes: Go to step seven
No: Go to step five
Step seven: Make bed. Surviving nights is now easy!
Step eight: Find awesome place to build
Step nine: Set up shop
Step ten: Not really "first thing to be done" anymore, is it?
I don't know why, but my first house on a new world is always an actual house, never just a cave or something. I always make it big too, because I know I'll never get around to expanding it for awhile. I'm way too busy mining.
make a nice but small house the first day, with a complete roof, then I want to expand it but I feel sad about the roof.
OR
Make a nice but small house the firs day with all it's surroundings like trees and fences and then I can't expand it because it has too much stuff around and if I make it taller it would suck.
For me I would start looking for a tree, get some wood and build my house. Then get the rest of the other resources and make torches to light my house up so no mobs spawn in it.
dont ask why, but this is what i always do
1. punch tree
2. wood pick
3. some cobble
4. stone pick and axe
5. wander around, killin animals for food and cutting wood for the entire day
6. when it gets dark, make a hole in a hill that will be a mine someday. seal off the entrance for now to prevent random mobs wandering in
7. crafting bench, furnace, chests, etc
8. dig ~10 blocks in then dig a 3x3 hole to layer ~8. dont forget ladders!!!
9. grab iron tools ASAP
10. start branch mining for diamond for a few days
11. back to surface then build whatever i want to build with all the resources i have
The first thing I do is pretty obvious to most Minecraft players except perhaps absolute noobs: get wood. Wood is perhaps the most important resource in the game.
Obtain 5 logs > Make a pickaxe > Mine stone > Make stone pickaxe > Mine for 5 days > Create Chests > Store everything > Make simplistic house > Cook all the ores > Make better house > Start farming > More mining > Add to house > Create Mob grinder > Mine more > Adventure > Enchant > Find Stronghold > Open the End Portal > Fight Dragon > End game > Have fun for the rest of the survival.
Look around, see where the safest place would be to build a shack. Then after I've done a bunch of mining and are ready, I decide a really cool build to try out.
Either take down a few trees (for the materials) or hunt some Sheep, so I can make a bed. I don't really like fighting until I have at least a stone Sword and a Bow & Arrows.
