Depends on the world.
In SMP, I enjoy houses made into dliff sides.
In regular worlds, I like cozy cabins with a view.
Creative, I enjoy over sized mansions/castles.
On user-made maps, I enjoy a cozy little house, not a cabin, but a house of varying size and floors.
Vechs maps, I often turn the area under the monument into a small base.
Only one thing ties all these styles together:
Every single house I make has a fireplace. No matter what, the second I get Netherrack, I put it in my emtpy fire place and light it.

Digging a hole and putting a block on your head is the real correct way to make a good house , didn't you guys learn it in your first days of Minecraft?
I like whatever I can get my hands on, but once I get enough diamond and tools and what-not to do whatever I want, I'd love to make castles. Although I have no ability to do so.

I like building in caves. Im kind of a fan of nature themed rooms, I like trying to make it look like you're outside when you are actually inside of a cave using grass and trees and waterfalls and whatnot
Every single type of house is what I make. I've not played MC long enough to even do so, but I have no real preference. If a structure looks the way I want it, then I'm happy.

Define "classic." Do you mean normal sized cabin? Or like plain box of wood planks?
