So I've decided I want to start a Survival game of Minecraft and I was wondering what mods are a must have? I already have the minimap mod and I'm looking up the mod so creepers will stop destroying my beautiful creations.
Also what are some challenges to do? So far I have:
* Make a starting Shelter
* Collect a stack of coal
* Find an NPC Village
* Reach level 15
* Tame a wolf/ocelot
* Make a bridge
* Make a 20x20 or larger house
* Make a wheat farm
* Collect a stack of iron
* Make a nether portal
* Craft a brewing stand
* Make a minecart system
* Make a pumpkin farm
* Make an enchantment table
* Craft 10 potions
* Make a 60x60 or larger mansion
* Slay the ender dragon
Play vanilla. You don't need Rei's minimap - just make a compass and be reasonably acquainted with your world. Rei's minimap is a cheap way of finding things you forgot in caves.
Creepers - They shouldn't be blowing up after you get decent gear, even an iron sword will let you kill them in 3 hits and therefore they shouldn't blow up. Light up your creations.
Basic point - You're the classic guy who dies once to a creeper and gets lost in a cave once and thinks he needs mods to stop the problem. PLAY VANILLA.
Is this your first time playing? You shouldn't add mods until you've played at least 4 or 5 worlds. You don't want to exhaust the game for yourself too quickly.
No I've played the game for hundreds of hours, I've just always found myself making a new world without ever doing much in the last one. Usually I just build a nice looking house then start a new world. But this time I'd like to play a lot more for the survival aspect and to go to the End than anything else. Currently I'm playing vanilla on hardmode with the exception of Rei's minimap.

Then that's fine, although I personally would drop Rei's minimap for improved gameplay experience.
If it can be a fun challenge to you, convert that npc village you find into a funny theme park of death.... by that, I mean, have them breed and breed, in a way it gets out of control, and build various traps, games and contraptions to kill them as their curiosity gets the better of them
The more funny their deaths are, the more points you win!
if you are on 1.4 w/ cheats, type in /mobGriefing false, then mobs can't break blocks (creepers/endermen). also if you want to make the game harder, look at atomicstryker's mods, specifically infernal mobs. also look to http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum/51-minecraft-mods/ for other mods. extrabiomes & mo'creatures are good for changing the game in a way that isn't rigged, just fun and actually slightly difficult. if you want lots of mods, look up direwolf20 and ipodmail on youtube. ipodmail does tons of mod reviews about lesser-known mods, DW20 plays with all kinds of mods.

Freakin' useful mod (I only use it for SSP!)
I like to play FTB with some additions. Also custom modsets are awesome!
