I made a survival map and i found a desert temple in a swamp. Wierd right?
But it gets even wierder. Withces spawn in the dang temple!
I don't know why it is doing it, but i wanted to share my discovery/experience.
Anyway, if you have any suggestions why this is happening, please tell me.
That's pretty cool. It sounds like the code selects a spot for the witch hut, and sets the area for witch spawning. But then a different routine checks the ground, finds sand, and builds a desert temple.
Plenty of people have found desert temples in the jungle or the swamp, but I haven't seen mention of a witch - good find!
My guess is that it was mistakenly generated instead of a witch's hut. When the game decides to generate a witch's hut, jungle temple, or desert temple, it likely says "spawn structure", then what appears is based on what biome it's in. Perhaps it had a brain fart and thought desert instead of swamp.
The custom superflat options seem to imply this, anyway.
Minecraft generates jungle temples in jungles, nether fortresses in Hell biomes, villages in plains, desert, and Savannah biomes, ocean monuments in deep ocean biomes, strongholds and dungeons in all biomes but hell biomes and sky biomes, desert temples in deserts, and witch huts in swamps. (And technically wells spawn in deserts too.) Hell biomes don't contact swamp biomes so we can rule out nether fortresses. Deep ocean biomes can't contact swamps so we can rule out ocean monuments. Mobs can't spawn in strongholds so rule out those. Villages and dungeons don't follow the same generation algorithm so rule out those. That leaves jungle and desert temples and witch huts. MC randomly generates these structures in whatever biome that they are meant to be in. So most likely, at least one block of the temple is in a desert biome. So to MC, it thinks that only witch huts can occupy space in a swamp biome since only they generate there. So the blocks that belong to the desert temple that are in a swamp biome, MC mistakes it as a witch hut. So only witches can spawn in the part of the desert temple that is in a swamp biome. If you find yourself in this situation, you can use this space in the desert temple to create a witch farm that is approximately 30 times as efficient as an average one. Use it wisely.
Yeah, their behaviour was changed in 1.6 (?) I think, very old thread.
My current world is based on a seed that was posted in this forum outlining exactly the same scenario as this one; It was around the time of 1.5 and I used to get loads Witches from the temple, I didn't like the idea of making Witches spawn everywhere, kinda of made the idea of seeking out a witch hut irrelevant, better to have them as a rarety. The change also stopped witches spawning in my temple in abundance.
