When I first started playing minecraft I played singleplayer survival most of the time; learning the shelter-building and food-gathering essentials, and eventually started building some fairly impressive structures. But after getting into multiplayer survival (on a very vanilla server) I find it hard to switch back to singleplayer. I almost feel like im "wasting my time" building in my singleplayer worlds because no one else will be able to see the creations or stumble upon my mine, it feels sort of lonely and creepy sometimes.
Anyone readily switch back and forth, or prefer to play singleplayer survival?
Yes I admit I enjoy SSP more than SMP. With SMP there is always that feeling that either A, as copybot said, you can get greifed, and B, the server may not promise stability and can shut down. If I made a server myself and allowed only my friends to join, then I would probably perfer SMP but until that day comes, I will stick with SSP.

I mainly play this game for the multiplayer. It's just so lonely when you know you're the only one. And I find it quite fun to discover other peoples creations.

Why do you say that? You can post screenshots of your world or put it up for download and then people can see what you've done. There's an entire forum section dedicated to showing people what you've made.
It seems like to me more single player survivalists go to minecraft forums than people in multiplayer. Mainly because they show off there cool stuff on the forums.
I use single player. I used to use mulitiplayer but got greifed once to many.
None of my friends play minecraft, and minecraft is the type of game where it's better to know people that you're playing with. It makes the game more fun. So I tend to lean more towards single player.
I prefer to play SSP as I don't know anyone who actively plays Minecraft. I don't get to play as much as I want and i don't want to waste it dealing with griefers or unstable servers.

That's very good point, but I meant it more to mean that people can explore around the server and stumble upon a creation of yours on their own. As with the griefing and cheating I think I may have gotten lucky where the public servers I have built on had very little to no problems with that.
I think that being in a multiplayer server also serves as a source of inspiration and ideas to incorporate and improve upon.
I like SMP survival, it kind of gets...."lonely"? it somehow makes me feel more motivated and happy playing MC to be "alone" on a server with people instead of alone on SSP.

Maybe I should have made this a poll
