The title says it all. Do mushroom biomes take away from the game? In my opinion, it takes away from the feel from minecraft. Anyone say otherwise? Please discuss...
Minecraft has zombies, skeletons, giant butt f*cking spiders and these green things that explode when you come near them
Minecraft never had any realisim people just want to complain about how the game is updating and changing the fact is things never stay the same and you have put the past behind its the truth.
realism... REALISM? RREALLISSM?!?!?!
You sir do not understand Minecraft.
Saying Minecraft has realism is saying apples and lemons are alike.
Realism isn't the right word I suppose. What I meant to say is that its just silly and misc. Enchanting, skeletons, spiders, brewing, zombies, etc. are mainstream game elements and it makes sense to have them. We have snowy, mountain, ocean, plains, forest, rivers, and mushroom. Any one of these seem out of place?
Minecraft Is fine like it is (however, they should add herobrine as an extremely rare mob that only spawns once until dead). Mushroom biomes are as unreal as everything else in minecraft, but that is what makes minecraft the greatest building sanbox since LEGO's!
Creepers, naturally occuring pink sheep, diamond tools capable of breaking, Nether, The End, worlds theoretically 8x larger than the surface area of Earth, using mods/creative mode to bed the world to your will. Minecraft is not all about realism. Mushroom Biomes are a small unrealistic feature when compared to say, the Nether, especially for their rarity.

They're both fruits.
Of all the worlds I've created I have only seen one, and wasn't anything too exciting...was a single giant mushroom on an island that was only 5x7 off the coast of a jungle biome. Was exploring and just so happen to see it at the corner of my eye...err screen. If they have taken them out or not it wouldn't bother me. Never really found a use for that biome yet for my creations.
I like Mushroom biomes. I've found four of the islands now (after exploring a large amount in my world, granted) and I couldn't be happier with them. They're great for building on and, thanks to the Mooshrooms, it's like having a meal stopover when you're trying to get somewhere over water. Automatic mushroom stew, just bring a bowl.
It really depends on what you consider the internal consistency of the Minecraft world to be. If you want it to be a classic fantasy (magic and monsters) then, well--yeah. I don't give it quite that much rigidity, the world of Minecraft is whatever Jeb and Notch want it to be. If it is something other people like then they make a lot of money, if not, not.
In part, I believe what you want is what modding is working toward. Mojang provides the engine and a basic theme and the modders provide their own take on what the theme should be modified toward. As Penny Arcade put it, "Minecraft is not like crack, Minecraft is like giving someone the tools and the ingredients to make crack and letting them go on their own." You want a slightly different recipe? You have the freedom--go forward.
PS What's the other game with floating blocks, crude graphics, a mushroom kingdom and magic? Think about it...
PPS Notch is not an American. While the US currently dominates modern culture, it doesn't do so completely. He likely grew up with some different assumptions on what is internally consistent to fantasy.
"I'm an engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like,
'What is beauty?', because that would fall within the purview of your
conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems."
This was something Notch personally wanted to add. To say mushroom biomes are not minecrafty is imputing your own personal vision for minecraft into that statement. Notch wanted to add a bizarre odd realm to minecraft and he did so. They are unique and not easy to find.

I play Slave Hack, give it a try!
You people don't catch my drift. I understand minecraft isn't realistic and I worded it wrong. I just don't think they belong in the game.
It's simple, its an island that has encountered a massive fungus infestation. The fungus has spread to the levels even the cows are infected.
What is so out of place with that?

Either that or Troll, but due to my lacking faith in humanity, I'm leaning towards complainer.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

Anyways, I don't think Mushroom Biomes take away anything from the game, but instead add to the game.
