Been playing a few weeks. Last few days been mining close to bedrock in search of diamond. Today, found a vien and came on home.
Home had a couple double-chests, forge, crafting table, and an indoor pen with 2 dyed sheep and a dozen chickens. The chests were full of coal, iron, gold, Lapis lazuli, arrows, cooked meats, you name it. And the diamonds of course.
So I'm standing at the crafting table. It's early a.m. here so I have the sound turned down. The doors in my base are closed, but somehow a creeper snuck in, crept up behind me and blew up. Both 2xChests blown, half my animal pen... of course all the crap zombie meat, wheat, seeds, etc end up in my inventory and all the rare stuff ends up on the ground. I have to run outside and chop down a tree and run back in to make a new chest, so I can pick up all my stuff!!! But of course I'm too slow and all that great loot vanishes... I try to close the client without saving, but apparently the "save and quit to title" button is useless, because no matter HOW you close the client, even without explicitly saving, it still SAVES. 'x' ing the window without saving still SAVED my messed up, lost loot state.
So now I'm sitting on a game where I've lost weeks of mining, setting up, hunting down breeding stock, chickens, ... ugh. I'm so frustrated that I REALLY don't even want to start over....
So, where'd I screw up? How'd that idiot creeper get in? How do you quit without saving so you can pick up a previously saved state?
Please calm me down and convince me Survival mode is worth playing...
Off topic : I remember my first lava accident...burn down all my hardwork....ended up with ragequit...
On topic : Take a break from minecraft a little bit (like 3 days or so), if you still find the game hard check out the wiki or let's play on youtube. You will become a pro in no time.
It takes about five seconds to get two logs, not five minutes. That is with bare hands.
It happens. Quite a bit. A good thing to do is have extra safety measures, such as small 1x2 holes in the ground, iron doors and walls.

I've been playing a while now, but I still had a surprise skellie yesterday. I thought my mine was safe and well-lighted, but there must be a spot I missed.
Once you get more experience, something like that won't be a game-ending emergency. You'll be able to see the creepers coming, and you'll know how to deal with them. And when your chest gets exploded it won't take so long to gather everything up. Hang in there!
figure out what just happened: 60s
try to gather my loot in vain: 60s
run outside to a tree, harvest: 60s
run back, craft 2 2xchests: 60s
transfer full inventory into chest1: 60s
turn around to find all my loot gone.
So, to the trolls making me feel worse that I took too long to recover, thanks for nothing. Go find some other bridge to lurk under.
To the rest, thanks for the support. Everything was lit up, doors were closed, not sure how he got in or where he came from...
I guess I just have to start over. Imma thinking I don't want to look at this base and my half tapped mine anymore, so I'll probly start a new world. If I'm starting from scratch anyways i might as well... The real heartbreak is the loss of the diamonds. Was hoping to go back down with a shiny new pick and make me a nether portal... Well, back to the drowring board
We're not trolling, it just seems slow that it takes 60 seconds to do those things.

I remember when that sort of thing happened to me. It took me a while to finish the "Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!" Then I ran, picked up the dropped chest that remained, picked up what I could (starting with valuables to dirt). I lost 3 diamonds, 1 block of lapis, and 5 gold blocks.
It was a sad day for Minecraftia. Lol. Just don't give up, it gets tough sometimes.

I don't like the word "Greifing." I prefer "Tampered with."
Guys leave him alone. I remember when me any my friend were on a server once. We had about 7 stacks of diamonds in a chest and it got blown up by a creeper. It happens to everyone. I would start again or play some SMP...

None of that stuff is rare except for diamonds, it'll be really easy to replace.

My best guess is that what you think is lit up is not really 100% lit up to light level 8 or higher. The game is really exacting about this. As for quitting without saving, I don't think it's possible unmodded, I think the game autosaves, like, every 2 seconds or something?

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
Yeh, the diamonds were a very sad loss. And the sheep. The biome i'm in seems pretty dry for sheep. Have to go hunt some down. And some guard dogs I think. As for light, I've checked and double checked. I'm fully lit. Overlit actually, cuz I needed to propagate some grassblock from the door over to my indoor sheep pen... I suspect the creep may have glitched throug a non-corner... you know, like two walls come together at thier diagonal corners, without a solid exterior corner section, like a 10 block portal... if you know whaddi mean... is that possible? Anyways, I've fixed that particular wall now regardless.
I also started rebuilding in my existing world. Didn't start a new world after all. I'm almost back to normal, just missing my sheep and diamonds...
Thanks for the support guys.

To be honest, you haven't really played Minecraft until you've experienced something like this. Still happens to the best of us from time to time. Just try to learn from it. Next time, you should realize that you can't hold everything that's been dropped so you'll spend less time deciding to make a chest. Also, you should ALWAYS have some wood planks/logs in your inventory (logs are more compact). As long as you have wood, you can make any tool necessary to survive.
Pressing esc will automatically save your game. The only way to quit without saving it alt-F4
It happens to all of from time to time. Mostly in the nether when you fall off and drop into lava, losing your diamond sword, pick, shovel, and armor...
LOL,epicness strikes again from Epicness123,anyway,you SHOULD have downloaded "Anti-griefers mod",which does :
1 : Creepers will not damage player OR TERRAIN
2 : Wire will not burn wool/wood or speared (Dead hell over surface)
3 : EnderMan will not pick blocks or teleport
4 : (Pretty sure forgot something)

Ah yes. This does happen. Take a break for a day. Then start collecting again. I feel your frustration. I lost a awesome world one time. Four months worth of work. Power blip. Destroyed it all.
