Hey guys! So I've always just wanted to play on singleplayer to save my creations from server resets or to just use mods that only work on singleplayer. One problem though... I start a world thinking of what I'm going to build, and then I play for about an hour, and I never get back on that world because I feel bored. I've seen lots of people who just play singleplayer, but to me, I feel it is boring. Any advice how to make it better or something....
I've been trying to build a gigantic city underground. It's made the game a lot more interesting atm, so you might want to try that - or building a city in the sky! c: Other than that... MODS. MODS EVERYWHERE.

The Aether Mod is good, Tekkit, TONS of different maps/seeds... I always find taking a break from vanilla play and trying out a survival challenge/map is good for getting back into the game. c:
Minecraft isn't just a game, it's a world you can live in. And more importantly, unlike my other game Guild Wars 2, in Minecraft you can accomplish things I truly value. To slay a dragon millions of other people have slain, reach level 80, and attain the best gear millions of other people have attained... it means nothing to me, I'm just along for the ride. But in Minecraft, you can forge your very own home, with truly great freedom.

Well what I do is I name things, I make maps, I explore, I build underwater yellow submarines, I do crazy crap all the time whether I feel like it or not, I always have multiple projects going on at one time and switch back and forth when I get bored between one or another.

I used to play a lot of singleplayer, but then I started to realize that I was building some cool things, but I never had anything to do with them. Then I started playing lots of multiplayer, which I found to be lots of fun due to the objectives of certain servers and the communities that make up the servers. I still sometimes play singleplayer to test out the things in updates and to remember what I used to build.
I usually pretend I'm recording. I don't know why it helps, but it does. I've only been on multiplayer once, and for 5 minutes, and I've played since beta 1.4, and I still love it.
I'm giving myself the challenge of walking from spawn to the edge of the map, all 3.2 billion meters of it. Going to livestream it, too.
Other than that, I like going on creative and watching terrain generate. Or setting NPC villages on fire. Or trying to track down pyramids and temples to tear apart for resources... I cannot begin to count how much mossy cobble I've hoarded.

I'm going to be drifting through space and watching the very last white dwarf fade itself out before you make it to the halfway mark, no offense. It's just not possible in a human lifetime.

Anyways, I've start a singleplayer world with mods and it's really fun so far with some of these ideas! Thanks guys!

When I get to the halfway point I'll be sure to quote this post.
Quite honestly just have a project in mind that you want to work on when you play. If all you do is get on for the hell of it then you'll be bored out of your mind because there is no real "objective" to this game. I've started probably close to 100 worlds because I would run out of projects or find diamond and be done with it. The current world I'm on I have probably 5 or 6 large scale projects I want to do which keeps me going.
Use your items. Don't hoard them. Resources are more than abundant. There is no need to be a pack rat (Unless that's one of your goals). Build when you have resources. Mine when you don't. Add a few mods to spice things up a bit. Maybe change texture packs. Just figure something out that you want to do on a world and do it. Learn redstone if you haven't yet and just experiment and have fun.
To give you a few examples of where I'm at right now. I currently have a mob grinder (courtesy of Malacodor). Have built a 115x120 wall around my "kingdom", 5 blocks thick with watch towers in each corner. I've located the end but haven't killed the dragon. As well as have a slime farm. I just completed my wool farm with all 15 different colors as well as a cow and chicken farm. I also have roughly 3 stacks of unused diamonds with 2 sets of diamond armor and 3 of each diamond tool (except for an axe, only 1) all of which have level 30 enchantments. I've collected all the wood I will ever need and am currently in the process of just building.
A list of things I still want to do on this map:
Complete my minecart system
Find a jungle temple
Finish my tower on my walls
Construct my epic house (living in a storage area right now)
Defeat the dragon
Locate a mooshroom biome.
Set up a quick travel system in the nether.
Experiment with redstone and build a few contraptions
Expand a NPC village and build a wall around it
Build a large ship
Construct multiple outposts or villages a good ways away from my spawn
Been playing since late alpha but I still keep playing becasue of the endless ammounts of things I can build, sure its time consuming and gets boring building, but once your done you can look back, take a screenshot and show it off in the forums
What do you mean "what keeps me playing"?
I play videogames because that is one of my favourite hobbies, and I play Minecraft because it is a very good videogame, able to suck hour after hour.
But the way you say it, it sounds as if I needed a further reasson to play a game I love... and that, I do not understand.
Did you read my paragraph at the beginning and not just the title?
Any mods in particular?
I slay everything
