Thanks again for all the feedback. I wish you all well on the challenge. It's great to see your progress. I have a post or two waiting on the back burner due to Curse going down on my during a post yesterday. I'd post now but I have to run to work and dragging out all those pics takes too much time.
Concerning the Spoiler feature. It helps me view better both on my phone and in Firefox. Sorry to hear about the issues in Chrome but I think with how long it takes to load a page without the spoiler that I shall continue in it's use.

Don't fear the creeper, yeah he's in your mine
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
I'll try out Imageshack's thumbnail feature. Click the pic to embiggen it.
This is the view out the door of the house. I don't have a picture, but later on after returning from some exploring I found the entire ladder had come off the gravel blocks and was scattered about on the floor. Weird, but possibly not a bug. The Wiki doesn't mention anything about that behavior. I have since shovelled out the gravel and replaced it with cobble. This is my principal route to the surface.
Checking out my ravine. It sure is well lit.
Same skeleton, different angle.
I can tell by the sounds coming through the wall that this is a skeleton dungeon. Yeah, I'll get back to you guys later. Right in front of this wall, where it would be visible in the pic, I made a furnace and smelted my 50 some iron ore while I contemplated whether or not to crack open the dungeon. I now have no idea where this place is. I hope an Enderman doesn't pick up my furnace before I find it again. It can't be far.
Slimes, check. Another item off the bucket list for this world.
Damn this ravine is big. Wait, is this the same ravine?
How this chicken got there will forever be an unsolved mystery. He is not there anymore.
Finally returned home and decided to install a roof garden on the house. It is my standard dirt-on-stilts with perimeter irrigation. There is only room for 3 rows of 7 or 21 grain at one harvest. I decide to expand and beatify the house.
Diamonds next to the house. There were 8, about as many as can spawn at once.
While I'm futzing around I crack open the back wall of the house and leave it unattended. This goes on for far too long.
What sucks about sandstone is the blast resistance of 4. There is not enough sandstone to fix the house after the explosion, so a trip to the surface is in order.
At least the inside of the house looks better now. That back area will be for storage, and maybe the Nether portal can go way in the back.
I'll leave out the spoiler method for you Chrome users this time... I can always add them later.

My mushrooms have begun reproducing finally
So I plant a few surface side
This squid comes to help me build supports for my bridge
I build a guest house in case I have company
My armor is still holding up and I have plenty of iron
but I nearly off myself by falling from a ledge in my stairwell
I continue downward and encounter another cave
and a second lava filled ravine
I almost miss some iron hanging out on the ceiling
Then catch myself on fire while mining some coal... thankfully there is a stream nearby
I head to the surface and smelt my find
when I return I finally reach lava level with my staircase.. I think I'll stop here
I make another surface trip after finding some gold and redstone
Once I have enough cobble I return and finish my bridge to the snow lands
I spot some iron across a pool of lava... of course I'm going for it
It leads to more redstone... note I have made my compass and watch already
I find yet another cave leading between the two ravines.. this one has a zombie guarding it
You can see the lights from my first encounter with the ravine here
My armor is still hanging in there after a few skelly battles
I build myself a lava and water well
and make em all purty
then I pour a nether portal
I fall outside while removing some of the mold for the portal so I take a pic of my bridge
I still haven't groomed my tree farm
for some reason I thought those fence posts would be safe... glad fire doesn't spread like it used to
I replace the fence posts on the water well and put cobble on the lava one... apparently that's still too close
I have four eggs and I need some arrows so I start tossing them in a pen I made
I only get one chicken... hopefully it will lay enough eggs for me to get another
Ok lets fire this baby up
I stock myself properly for the venture... then just before leaving go back for some cobblestone
I'm glad I did because this seems to be a floating platform
I'll need this cobble to build a bridge
so that I can get to that nether dungeon
as soon as I open up into the dungeon I am given a warm welcome
I wonder what is on the other side but I'm going to leave that alone for the time being
I find a rather large formation of glowstone... I'm going to have to come back for that
While I am contemplating how to mine it I bump into these guys who introduce me to their hot friend
I do some hasty armor repairs... I seem to be learning from previous mistakes... That's a wonder
I keep trying to take pics of the blazes but all I get is me on fire
I round a corner and nearly attack these guys... I'm glad I didn't they seem to be friendly
I finally capture one on film.
After fighting through three or four of them I disassemble the spawner... I really shouldn't eliminate my source of blaze rods but I just can't justify spawn camping
I snipe a couple of them as I continue onward
then locate and destroy their home base as well
These nether contractors really need to stop building in the middle of lava flows
I find a metric ton of mushrooms and access to that great glowstone formation
I mine it while dodging ghast blasts
as I return home I am hit by this guy
I take him down with my bow and am lucky enough to have the experience land on the ledge
The roof top farm is now 3 rows of 15, or 45 grain per harvest, which is 15 bread. That is enough to last to the next harvest. Reed farm is in place as well.
I go exploring and mining. I need much more cobblestone to make a safe base in the Nether.
My armor got degraded, and then a surprise creeper got me while I was mining that iron.
Score 445.
I did it, but I am stuck at a stronghold without portal room (Yes I have prerelease 5). But I did make a small mob killing chambre cause those stupid endermen just teleported away without returning all the time.
I used the tnt x-ray glitch AFTER I searched hours for the portal room.
I head back down to begin branch mining for diamond but again am sidetracked by the ravines
I find a single tiny slime which gives me a single slime ball
Then I delve into every dark place I can find
pick up some extra red mushrooms
get slightly lost
somewhere in that darkness is an archer with sights on me
I head back to the surface after finding my staircase and begin to breed some feathers for more arrows
Then I decide to try my hand at brewing
I fill up the three bottles I have glass to make
after some research I begin to brew
I don't have anything beneficial so I start with some poison
I add some glowstone dust to make it hit harder
and some gunpowder to turn it into an effective weapon
It won't last long but hopefully it'll soften them up a bit
then I go in search of some reeds so that I can make the next one instant damage
I find this bugger hanging out in broad daylight but he skips out before I can off him
I spot some pumpkins... I've been wanting to try out the snow golem
bulls-eye
there are some reeds... just need some melons now to make this a complete success
I head home
Plant all but two of the pumpkins
and build my first watchman
These guys throw snowballs which I have heard are effective against blazes so I figure I'll test one out in the nether... success
I head back to check on the first one and he's swimming in the river
I make a set of pistons and turn one sticky with that lone slime ball, then I make myself a gate... it's primitive until I can get more slime
hopefully that'll keep out the critters
I make another brief excursion into the nether hoping to encounter some blazes... no luck so I just grab some glowstone to keep it from being a total loss
a battle with two ghasts turns this area into something that resembles a napalm strike
When I get back I find that my gate is indeed sufficient to keep out the creatures of the night
My guard has wandered a bit but that's alright I'm not hanging around tonight
I test my potion on this guy... it only takes a single sword strike to bring him down after the 16 seconds is up
I run into another cave and of course end up so deep I'll probably get the bends coming back up
but it's got a dungeon so I'm happy my castle needs more moss
sneaky spiders keep trying to hide above me
afterward I catch a brief glimpse of some familiar particles
so I lock him with my gaze and hit him with a potion to soften him up
then hit him with a falling strike and am rewarded for my heroism with my first ender pearl
several times I nearly walk off a ledge exploring this cave ridden land
an hour later I'm still wandering around lighting up the dark tunnels
I find lava level again and explore in hopes of finding diamond
all I find instead is another dungeon... I'm so glad I geared up
Of course I can't bring myself to exp farm
so it's back to this maze of tunnels
and back to the surface just in time for night to fall
a home sweet home.. It's been too long
well I only have one but here goes
it leads me almost strait out my front gate, how fortuitous
I add the mossy cobble to my home and give it a farewell as I set off in search of portals
My guard perishes fighting a skeleton while I deal with a nearby creeper... farewell frosty.. you will be missed
it seems to be leading me toward that mountain
so I climb it before trying again..
it leads me back so it must be just over this edge
I find a cave entrance about 10 blocks from where the eye lands.. I would test again but the eye disappears completely on my next toss without giving a direction that I can see
almost immediately it produces yet another dungeon... I'll trade them all for that stronghold please
this creeper sniping gallery entertains me briefly but alas I have but 3 arrows
I off the three creepers and open up the gallery to find more presents inside
and one of them I really wanted this Christmas. I now have enough slime for my piston driven gate to be complete
but do I head back? no I venture further into the dark recesses of the godforsaken cavern system
I'm running out of torches... again
but I brought enough lumber and these caves are riddled with coal
of course they seem to go on forever and my inventory is already full
what are you doing down here fluffy? Go home!
I find yet another dungeon.. I have now ditched a total of 4 buckets and a saddle just to make inventory space but I can't leave that mossy cobble behind
this one is filled with spiders... there are five inside when I crack her open
I loot it for what I can... I leave behind two more buckets and another saddle but meh... on to this ravine
through some caves and out into yet another ravine... I really should head up but after nearly 4 hours down here I'm not sure I could find my way out if I tried... even having only placed torches on my right side
I contemplate making a switchback stair up this ravine.. that should get me topside safely
but when I approach the waterfall I spot some iron near the base of the falls. It hangs precariously over lava but I've dealt with this before so I head down. I hold shift to avoid being pushed into the lava but it does push me out over it... too late I realize my fatal mistake. If I let go of shift I drop into lava, if I don't I cannot fight the current.
I only have one cobble in my active inventory so I go to place it against the obsidian I'm standing on but I miss and place it below lava level. I am now stuck with no placeable blocks at the ready and nowhere to go. I attempt to jump onto the water covered obsidian but I misjudge the overhang and land in the molten pool. I jump to get out but each time the water pushes me back before I can land on the block... it puts me out briefly but of course I'm on fire again in an instant.
I attempt to enter my inventory and bring something to the active inventory... I succeed and begin placing blocks as my health quickly dwindles... to no avail

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
It also causes a bug (at least in Chrome) in which pictures aren't re-sized and require you to zoom out to see the whole thing.

Testify. I use Chrome, so that is why I do it this way. Spoiler tags are good idea, but it doesn't work for me.

Also sorry Chrome users
I also start a wheat and tree farm
and place a gate on my little place of refuge... one day I will power it all with redstone
Then I make some pathways through the complex
complete my suit of armor
and of course insure that it is well lit
by morning my tree farm is already out of hand
but the wheat growth is minimal.... isn't this a little backward?
I start my first shelter and add to the look of the gate a bit
then finalize my shelter
and as I am working on my staircase I encounter a cave
which leads to this ravine
As soon as I make some buckets I'll have a good source of obsidian
This looks promising
Zombies... the easiest dungeon to conquer
It yields enough string to make a bow
as well as two buckets and a saddle
although it would be easy to farm xp off those zombies I destroy the spawner... I feel that such farms make the challenge too easy
I leave the dungeon devoid of all mossy cobble as well
as I back up from this ledge I fall through a 1x1 hole
and land here... I'm certain that this could have ended my run
but instead it leads me to a vein of coal behind the falls
I head back up, taking a glance at my progress on the stairs
Then I begin placing my mossy cobble
making iron tools
and weapons
and processing my ore
I think the gate is starting to gain character... I'll probably add some vines in a bit
I am not a very good farmer it seems.. I don't enhance the growth in any way... that would just be too easy
I visit the snowy lands to take a look at castle valdark
resist the strong urge to kill every river squid in sight
and instead return to my stair construction
did you see our visitor in that last one?
this time my stairs intersect the ravine directly.. and there is iron.. woot
I build a bridge to collect whats on the far side
and notice some gold on my way back... I need some redstone so I can make a watch
well I haven't reached bedrock just yet but I like the look
Perhaps I should spend some time trimming my trees
That's all for now... haven't had much time to delve into the game the last few days but I'll try and do so tonight
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
I'll leave out the spoiler method for you Chrome users this time... I can always add them later.

Here goes another installment from my brief excursion before work today.
This friggin chicken needs to lay eggs already.... also... why are there no roosters in minecraft?
Apparently I am due for another suit of iron armor after the blazes got a hold of me
Since the repair option is now available I again hold my old gear to do emergency patchwork while in the field
While exploring the snow lands I decide I'll stop to pick those red flowers that I spotted earlier
I find a very shallow ravine
which leads to a large cave complex
and another lava filled ravine... I think I'll leave that gold where it is
It's well into the night before I make it back home
I stop to smelt the ore I've gathered so far
finally it lays an egg!!!.. unfortunately it is sterile
I really should do something about those trees
I just clear my perimeter wall this go round
So far I have survived on bacon alone ...(I know porkchops... but I hate porkchops and I love bacon so it's bacon... you bacon haters)
I head out at night looking for the tall black menace.. I only find skeletons
and creepers of course
This skelly thinks he's a troll
good thing I brought those spare parts
I venture back into the cave system I found earlier and find yet another ravine crossing through it
and on my way out get attacked by a flaming zombie
This is the first frozen river I have encountered
I grab some wood and head back down with a fresh supply of torches
dodge a few creepers
Manage to turn this zombie to my cause against the skeletons
find a creeper staring at me through this 1 block hole in the cave wall
and with heavily damaged armor I head back to the surface with about 100 iron
One of these days I actually will cut this mess
ooh another egg
and this one bares fruit... er ... chicken
and my surface mushrooms have spread
To be Continued
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
