The chances of your suicide being long and slow are slim. It is more likely that you will die a fast explosive death early on.
Not really. I've got three different Hardcore worlds going with random seeds, and skeletons are by far the most threatening monsters, with cave spiders close behind (**** poison.) Creepers are a goddamn joke - just listen for footsteps and then just spam swing your sword until they die, or just get close enough to trigger them and get out of the blast zone before they blow.
I don't think I've ever died to a creeper in the entire time I've played Minecraft. I've had creepers wreck my goddamn lawn more times than I'd care to count, though.
I may have to try this....but I've been out of the Minecraft loop for a long time now (think I got bored around 1.7 and stopped). I'll go for it though, see how long I can go before I die. I'll surely post progress here, but I don't know if I'll put pictures.

Don't fear the creeper, yeah he's in your mine
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
You do realize you basically said "Start a hardcore game and play minecraft until you win. Oh and don't make any mob grinders or beds. By the way this is all completely my idea." Yeah, this is not the most original challenge I've seen. Edit the post and adding a few things:
A seed that is very hard to live in, and some more regulations such as not being able to build a house above ground. After that you could possible call this your own challenge.
Have been working on my hardcore world for a few irl days now, have my end portal fired up, just gathering arrows :biggrin.gif: i'll upload some pictures soon.

I understand the rules are simple... but it does not detract from the difficulty of completing it.
Without mob grinders it can become difficult indeed.
Adding a seed defeats the purpose. A randomized seed prevents you from being able to track down materials by memory.
I also stipulated no mods/mapping programs which would take away from the challenge.
I didn't name the challenge... Kinsaka did after I challenged him to do it, but Meh. Play or don't. I hope you do and have a good time.

Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
Here are some pics of my base, now that i've got silk touch, made a bacon machine
Got a bit lucky with seed, as i love starting in a mountain biome, and a forrest close by :biggrin.gif:
First update on my adventure here, and I have pictures :smile.gif: Here's day one of my adventure! (Meant this to be 20 pictures, turned out my first day was 20 pictures.)
I liked the Orson Scott Card references for world names, so I did the same.
My spawn view...okay, I suppose.
I must be channeling your spirits, because I haven't played since 1.7 and I hate these inedible guys.
Standard Minecraft procedure*- chop wood.
*Took me 5 tries to spell that right..kept pressing p instead of o.
I'm sure I'll find something good in this desert biome.
Looks like I was right. Coal!
Larger vein than I thought!
Weird formation in the distance.
More coal.
I spy dinner.
I think they just multiplied :blink.gif: ...more chicken for me
More coal, and my future hidey hole for the night.
Sun's starting to set-better get inside
This should protect me if some archers come my way.
We're rolling now- time to cook.
Time for an upgrade.
I begin a staircase down in search of valuables.
My search leads to nothing, so I salvage my torches and block off the passage.
And I start off moments after my last post with ender contact
I down a couple of potions to help cover more ground during the night
but don't see another enderman until it is too late
or so I thought.. I track him to a cave beneath the hill
and we have another two pearls
the next night begins the same but the results are less than fruitful
So I make a map and go out in search of my portal
I begin where the last eye dropped
which is well off of my map
I go to the bottom of the ocean in search of the eye I just threw and am sucked into a cave system... I throw my last eye and it goes through a wall... I dig in that direction until I contact this mineshaft
I find a dungeon just in time as I am out of food and not sure I can make the swim back up to the surface
after some exploration I run into a cave spider spawner and decide to clear it since they seem to be tracking me down either way
everything is going fine until I get my foot stuck in a web just as a zombie drops in from above. I down my strength potion and begin flailing about with my sword of sharpness but it is too little too late as I just end up striking web.
as you can see it was more than just that single zombie that did me in.. I counted 6 spiders at the time of my demise
I really should be more cautious. I had realized that my armor was wearing thin but being tired and impatient I attempted to locate the stronghold without properly equipping.
Well, as i'm done with the challenge now, i need some new ideas for the world, already completed some i though of myself like:
Get a sheep of every colour :tongue.gif:
Check out the Minecraft 1.9 challenge or build this
Also another installment
I give myself the most useful advice in the universe besides "Always carry a towel"
spawn is a forest with some lovely pools
and some piggies in the distance
ten blocks away is some surface coal...man I'm set
Oh wait armor would help
while I'm smelting some iron and going for that lapis block the jerk on fire in front of me decides he wants me to join him in a lava bath... well that was certainly quick

So here we go again...
Note this world was pre release
I didn't know that cows were swamp creatures but I won't complain too much
Perhaps they are an offshoot of this desert breed
I put up some defensive walls by sundown... won't keep out spiders but it'll keep the attacks to a minimum
I prepare some swamp soup
then start glassing the place in... I'm tired of having to look out the holes in my door to tell if its light out
it also lets me see when I have company
squids are everywhere but I leave them be this time
It seems my wall for the tree farm is not high enough
and my back yard needs some light
I decide to mine... I do so too greedily and too deep
I think my headgear saved me... which is odd since it is leather
I strike diamond early... too early in fact... I have no iron
I also have placed my workstation too close to lava
apparently RC2 allows leaves to grow through cobblestone
after minimal time I have already constructed my nether portal
they all seem to lead dangerously close to lava flows these days
I kill this ghast with my sword
then start searching for some ruins
I get caught on fire due to a ghast attack
kill some zombie pigmen out of boredom
then finding no ruins head back to my mines for more supplies
now I have some diamond it's time for more iron
why I didn't realize that dropping gravel while holding shift would cause me to fall with the gravel I don't know... probably lack of sleep
so much for that run
oh well
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
I play Slave Hack, give it a try!
Redstone is fine but not for use in auto harvesters or in mob/exp machines.
Beds are optional but I decline their use personally.
Play on hardcore, make no world backups... if you die so does the world.
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
As long as you enjoy the challenge I'll let you slide on the pics :wink.gif:
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
What mods would you be using? For the most part mods do give unfair advantages in my experience.
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
Nice little valley spawn
seed for those who want it (RC2 but I'm not sure that makes a difference)
I'm guessing this is swamp grass and not mushroom biome
the place is riddled with surface caves
and chickens (we have now reached official release)
and don't forget ravines
I find a hallway that does not look entirely natural... even for minecraft
and do battle with more creepers than I'd care to count.
and realize I will soon be lost in this labyrinth
I spy a potential ender eye
but he disappears into the network of caves
I now have plenty of iron
but before I can smelt it I spot my friend
but again he eludes me... why am I wielding an axe?
thoroughly frustrated by the blinking endermen I head back to the surface
and spot yet another surface cave... I don't think I'll run out of these any time soon
even if they all seem to link together
before I get too deep again I head surface side
and continue to avoid the temptation of the endless caverns
then it's Slayin in the rain, just slayin in the rain
it's a thunderstorm but I can't seem to catch the lightening on film
this time I completely forgo shelter and just set up the necessities
then go to set up a tree farm
this should be enough of a clearing
alright now it's on to slaying critters
I'll start with this batch
but first lets armor up
I should probably replace the sword soon.
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
A seed that is very hard to live in, and some more regulations such as not being able to build a house above ground. After that you could possible call this your own challenge.
You are probably right... hmmm I will consider doing so.
Good luck can't wait to see those pictures.
I understand the rules are simple... but it does not detract from the difficulty of completing it.
Without mob grinders it can become difficult indeed.

Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
Looking good. Keep em coming.
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
Luckily it holds out
I spot and kill another but no pearl this time
day breaks and I decide its time to go spelunking
but first I'll need a bit of lumber
and to finish a bit of smelting
a few turns inside and I stumble upon a dungeon
but it is only zombies
I take stock of my loot
dodge an arrow
that happens to come from a second nearby dungeon... skellys this time
but the spawn rate is low due to a cave in
then it is back to wandering the depths
I find a lava filled ravine and as usual decide to chance it
especially since there is diamond in sight
I should probably light this place up if I plan to mine it
but that is easier said than done... seems to go on forever
as do the intersecting caverns
I fill up my inventory and head back to do some crafting... and maybe some hedgework
I empty the non essentials into a chest and smelt the iron I've found
then throw out some eggs to get feathers for arrows... when did eggs start spawning baby chickens?
then I head back down to conquer that ravine/cave system... I find slimes.. and rejoice
this system is filled with iron... I'll probably run out of space before I'm tired of mining for it
lava + creeper = nervous valdark
and with good reason
heck yeah more diamond
four more to be exact
the creepers really seem to be out in force today
and the caves prove to be as endless as I first suspected
but it proves to be a good thing
my inventory now full again I head topside for some smelting
while I'm waiting on the iron I am ambushed by four skeletons
and this spider who leads me to an enderman
the bugger gets away so I go start building my enchanter's lodge
I brought in quite a haul
so I build it out of iron gold and lapis with a nether portal next door
I gear up
then it is portal time
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
I think I see something on the other side of that glowstone
but as I go to investigate I find some glowstone in easy reach so I collect it
I find the nether structure and use the supports as both an entrance and as material to build a walkway to the dungeon
I locate a few blazes... collect a couple of rods then head back
then feeling brave I off a zombie pigman
I make two eyes of ender
upgrade my sword
and my pick
then head off in search of the stronghold
but then I think better of that decision and go gather some lumber
then brew some nice fire resistance potions
that turn blazes into breezes
I figure this should be enough to convert any more pearls I find into eyes so I head back
My armor is holding up fairly well
Just in case I plant some crops
and use some bonemeal to up my tree count
then use my mossy cobble to finish off my work area
before following the ender eyes into the mythical land of bacon
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
I liked the Orson Scott Card references for world names, so I did the same.

We're rolling now- time to cook.
Time for an upgrade.
I begin a staircase down in search of valuables.
My search leads to nothing, so I salvage my torches and block off the passage.
Morning's coming, time to prepare myself.
After leaving the valley of pigs I follow the eye into the moonlit night.
and across the ocean
where it turns back toward my home
the last of my two eyes shatters but it appears the stronghold is somewhere down there
so I leave a marker on where to begin once I have collected some more
and proceed to get lost... I nearly take a fall into this ravine... I have boots of featherfall but I'm not testing them out on purpose
I fight my way through the night hoping for more pearls
but all I find is this phase chicken
If this were a survival world instead of a hardcore I'd be forced to make an outpost in this beautiful valley
another night falls and still I am lost
and the weather is not at all conducive to enderhunting
even so I spot one under this tree... unfortunately he quickly disappears into the night
I get tired of being lost and mine deep enough to get redstone for a compass that leads me back to spawn
but I'm still lost as to where my base is... I'll settle for this enderman though
but he has no pearls... perhaps his friend does
he does but the eye explodes on the first attempt and I don't even have time to cap the screen before it is gone
but I use its direction and the position of the moon to get an idea of where my base might be
success I find the bridge that I have been building toward the stronghold
I enchant a new set of armor
then start to brew some potions... I think I'll go strength and speed this time
while I am setting up my brew a creeper detonates on me taking out most of my forge
that's it for now, hopefully we'll see some more endermen next go around
Don't fear the creeper, happens all the time, don't fear the creeper
I down a couple of potions to help cover more ground during the night
