First off, Terrain and generated structures. Ever seen and NPC village and thought they all looked alike? Well, I do. In 1.3, they made villages in deserts generate out of various sandstone types instead of wood like before. I don't mind this really, sure, some wood could have been put in there to mix it up a little. Maybe, if a village is spawned near a river, there's a watermill building with a water wheel in the river. But I don't really think that's enough. I want villages generated in more than just plains and desert biomes. For example, a village could be made in a forest biome, but it would have features that would only happen if a village was generated in that biome. Say, one is generated in a jungle, the houses are made of jungle wood and have vines on the houses, maybe even some mossy cobblestone in the foundation that would replace some of the other regular cobblestone blocks. That was a crude example but I hope you get my point.
-After version "Beta 1.7.3" the terrain generation got very dull, Real biomes got added and we lost the mixing of biomes. (Forests with mountain within them) I also feel that after a while, the overhangs, mountains, and overall epicness of the old land gets, well, old. The New terrain generator is a more realistic land generator. The new land isn't all bad, but it too has many flaws, (almost no elevation change, cliffs are hard to find).
Because of this, I propose this. A new Terrain generator completely. Mash together the old 1.7.3 features with the new terrain features, with some needed changes along with it. Those changes include but are not limited to: better biome neighboring placement. Let's be honest, nobody likes seeing a tundra biome riding up on a jungle. That's just ugly. Also I think that bringing back some of the 1.7 biomes would be pretty cool too.
I also think a real island biome is needed. when your boating across an ocean you may (every once in a while) see an island. Then you think to yourself, "Gee, I sure wish there was a large island for my to make a "..." on. And of you use a server dymanic map, most of it is ocean. And the biomes are scatered everywere. not that im saying I don't like that but ever so often I wanna see something like this.
The shore of a large island (something by the size of 2500 by 2500 blocks large) the coast is a large beach the farther inland you go, the more the altitude of the land will rise. From beach it would go Beach -> Forest
-> jungle -> extreme hills. something like that with variations to fit all biomes. I'm not saying I want ALL terrain generated to be setup like this, this is what I think a real island should be like. If not, Give islands their own Technical Biome. I think an average 100 block by 100 block would be a descent size. To improve on the island idea more, talk to the tropicraft mod developer to get some of the land generation from that for the islands (NOT THE WHOLE MOD! JUST SOME OF THE LAND!) I don't think may people would get a bad case of butthurt about that.
While we are on ocean related topics, how about oceans themeslves? There is almost no desire to build in an ocean, nor is there a reason to explore the ocean floor for things other than clay/sand. Sometimes caves/ravines/strongholds/mineshafts break through the ocean floor. I dont mind that really but i was thinking something like this would be nice to see. Deeper oceans and and atlantis style ruins genorated underwater. Then there would be a real use for resoration and aqua afinity enchantments. Not only would this be a supply of mossy stone brick and cracked stone brick but it also would hold treasures.

Caves, Caves are everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Sometimes there's too many, sometimes for dozens of chunks there aren't any. The maximum world height was recently doubled. I would like to see the same with the Below sea-level layer. There's only about 50 blocks were one can really mine stuff, while there's 250 block were you can build. I want to see different types of caves generated. For those who have played Tekkit or Technic, the Redpower2 mod allows giant parts of stone to be replaced with marble block. I don't see why things like this should excluded from vanilla. Not only that, a long time ago on getsatisfaction a user posted an idea for Rainbow Crystalline Caves. Here is his idea. https://getsatisfact...e_caves_and_how
It is marked as planned but I'm starting to think ideas like this that were "planned" are not being abandoned by Jeb and Dinnerbone. I don't like that. Not one little bit. This game is called "Minecraft" but now there's less and less things to do with mining. I wanna see at least a few more ores with uses other than armor and tools be put into the game, as well as what I said above. However what new ores and what uses they have remains to be determined.
-Huh, you've made it this far? You got some spunk.-
Not only does the underground need more content but so does the Nether. The only major things people to there to collect are mob drops, netherrack, souldsand, and netherbrick. I wanna see some changes to that. Possibly a some new generated structures within the nether. Maybe nether ores? Special nether items? There is a mini mod for more enchantments (the game needs more of those too) and one of them is called the super heat enchantment. it automatically smelts everything that the tool breaks. (as long as it can be smelted) Maybe have an enchantment for that? Or even Blaze rod items? Collect 6 blaze rods and you can form them into a blaze ingot. Those can then be turned into blaze tools. instead of sticks they use cobblestone, or something like that. A blaze ingot tool will smelt anything that is mined with it. (Just like the super-heat enchantment) A blaze sword would set any mob that is hit with it on fire, plus regular damage. Blaze armor, well, I don't think you would want to wear it. As for nether structures, after in 1,4 (or 1.3) villagers can be found in the nether by nether portals. Why not have a village ruins type of generated structure there? like a village similar to those in the overworld but made of cobblestone (or whatever).
With the 1.4 update we will get some pretty cool new mobs/mob features: bats, witches, etc. Mobs add to the feel of the game. I've seen a lot of people asking for birds. Bats could have their AI and texture changed and be like birds. I think that would be pretty cool. More mobs that spawn in caves would be awesome. Rats?
Boars for jungles? Birds? I heard an idea long ago about a tree mob, It would well, look like a tree, and spawn in forest-style biomes. If it catches you cutting down trees within say, 25 blocks of it, it would turn hostile and try to kill you. If you plant saplings it will become your ally and help defend you from hostile mobs. Sorta like a natural iron golem. To regain health, it would walk over to some water and jump out when its health is full. I think that would be pretty cool. Dinnerbones pandas? Awesome, he should totally start work on that again.
Since the next update is going to be the next Halloween update, I say we try to make the next one "The Terrain/Mob/Update.
