i heard that xp farms will be nerfed in 1.4 and this makes me really mad because just because jeb hates xp and mob farms he gets to nerf them. who cares if other people xp farm its not hurting you jeb thats just how we are playing. i feel like jeb is just wanting us to play the way he does. and thats ok but dont nerf the way other people play. thats like if i only like to play survival mode i take out creative mode and all mods that gives items.
im not trying to sound mean but please tell me what you think of this
That might bother me more if I wasn't already preoccupied with needing wood pickaxe to get stone, stone pickaxe to get iron, iron pickaxe to get diamond, diamond pickaxe to get obsidian, and blaze spawner to get alchemy. It's a completely rigid tech tree that you have to go through in every new world, talk about making you play their way.

"Sometimes, I just wanna give up, say 'I'm done with this mess' and go to bed. But you know what; you can't shrug off your responsibilities. You got to pull yourself up and meet the challenges head on. That's the only way you're gonna get ahead in life."
couple things to say:
#1: the reason jeb is using the mod ideas is because they were GOOD mods, and mojang has the right to license the mod as part of their game.
#2: the idea of enchanting is to give you a reward for doing certain objectives in the game, like mining ores or killing monsters. i don't think that jeb wanted a way to get from 0-30 in 5 minutes with an enderman farm.
#3: mc was meant to be a simple game, and certain things make it better or worse. overall, its the decision of the minecraft developers, we can only give suggestions.
dont hate on me please, just expressing my point of view on this topic

totaly agree, plus i have to say even though i LOVE monster farms, he wants to make it more difficult, which makes sense. :3
Honestly. I LIKE the way things are going! I mean, since Jeb took over we've had much more regular and content-filled updates. We've gained new foodstuffs, we're getting new potions, we've gained new mobs, we're getting improved maps (Zoom and placeable on walls!), got writable books and a few other things... all of which were mentioned by Notch long ago, but always seemed to get delayed somehow.
And yes, some of them are inspired by mods. Didn't the minecraft crew announce they were -going- to be taking ideas from what modders make? I thought so, at least.
I'm not trying to bash notch. I'm just saying that the updates seem a lot more regular and content-filled with Jeb at the helm.
The only thing I dislike about nerfing spawner-based xp farms is that these forums are going to be filled with people crying that they can't get dark room mob grinders to work because they never had to use their brain before.
Seriously, the limited end game content that there is should at least be difficult to pull off (and I know that mob grinders aren't hard to make, but there are a lot of variations, and some make sense for certain situations more so than others).
Also, Notch gave us the base ground to work with for this game. Then he moved on and is still doing that with other things. He doesn't enjoy sitting on one project for one time. He's happy to let Jeb work as lead developer for Minecraft and Jeb is happy to take that role. Both of them contributed quite a lot to the game, and you can easily notice the major changes as time continues to pass. It's not a bad thing.
I, personally, also like what Jeb has been doing, and though somethings I don't agree with, that's bound to happen, even with Notch as head. Mojang won't always cater to your personal needs.
What I don't understand is that some people complain about the game being to easy, and then complain when they do something to make it harder. Sure, sometimes they aren't the same people, but often they are.
And it annoys me, because they're are many solutions to the problems, including mods and playing on older versions.
I don't know (or really care) where you "heard" this. But there's only two ways that could happen.
Either they lower the spawn rate of critters, which would be a huge (and bad) change. Or they lower the XP from combat.
Something has to change, because mining generates a LOT more XP than combat now. One coal vein is worth a whole clique of creepers. Also, with the lowered XP cap, a day's mining gives you one top-level enchantment.
But there's no way for the software to tell the difference between a critter that drops from your sleazy little monster farm, and one you met on the fair field of battle. If anything, I think they should (and probably will) nerf XP from mining, Right now it's just silly.

I Honestly WANT to make mods and have Jeb copy them! It's like crafting the game in our own way! If we make mods that get really popular, of course Jeb will implement them! Plus, With implementing mods, we don't need to worry: Is minecraft going to crash?, Crap! I started it without making a backup!, etc! If Jeb is reading this, go to the most popular mods on planetminecraft and. . . add . . . most of them. Especially, if Jeb adds more stuff, the game will seem 'nice new and shiny' to all irl friends, they will buy the game, adding more to the minecraft community, and more money for the company! Have you gone to minecraft.net lately? "7,335,355 People have purchased the game". AND COUNTING! FOR EVERY SINGLE NUMBER THAT IS 25$ TO THE SUCCESFUL COMPANY! IF YOU WERE IN JEB'S POSITION, YOU WOULD BE JUMPING ON YOUR DESK AND BUYING GOLDEN FRICKING TOILETS! JEB IS A GENIUS, ALONG ITH NOTCH AND THE REST OF THEIR TEAM! I'M NOT SAYING THAT JEB IS INCONSIDERATE TO PEOPLE, BUT COMPANIES CARE ABOUT MONEY! C'MON, I CALCULATOR'ED THE MONEY, OVER 185 MILLION DOLLARS. I WOULD BE HAPPY WITH HALF ONE MILLION, LET ALONE 185 MILLION DOLLARS. MY POINT IS, IF YOU WERE JEB, YOU WOULD BE DOING THE EXACT SAME THINGS. MONEY ISNT THE ONLY THING THEY CARE ABOUT, BUT IT SURE IS A BIG THING! IF YOU CONVINCE JEB TO STOP COPYING FROM MODS, HE WILL LOSE MONEY LITTLE BY LITTLE, AND MINECRAFT WILL BE PAUSED ALTOGETHER. Sorry for the long 'Preach' but I get really mad when someone critisizes someone's game, it's like, make your own mods, or GET TEH FOOOCK OUT!
A simple change to the XP system would be to track the damage done by players to the mob.
If you did 100% damage to mob you get the current XP amount.
If gravity(fall damage) did 9.5 hearts and you did .5 then you get 5% of the XP... if they can cut it that small. Otherwise maybe round up to the smallest increment XP can give.
Simple change that reduces farmers efficiency and doesn't affect adventurers.
Technically, any minecraft mods belong to mojang since its still Minecraft.
Nothing here is stolen.
That's assuming that credit has been given to the creators of those mods, the people who did most of the work. If they have asked the mod creators beforehand, and credit has been given, then it's not stealing.
I like that Jeb is thinking about creative mode more, and the aesthetic builds in addition to survival mode's newest items. I think it would beneficial to Minecraft to have more single player commands inserted, like /fly, /reach, /brush sphere, smooth and cylinder, /setspawn which is used to adventure maps (would make sense now that there is an adventure mode now), and various other popular commands. This should definitely be part of the "cheats" option, which people will be able to turn off before starting a new game in single player mode. I do think they should not be allowed for hardcore and multiplayer, since you really don't need commands if you are building or playing with two or more people.

The XP scaling only affected mobs from the caged spawners and was only in for one snapshot. It was removed in the next snapshot (w36).
Caged spawners are a decent benchmark, but real XP farms use dark room spawning mechanics.
They may come for XP farms again at a later date, but whatever they do can probably be worked around.

No, all mods are owned by Mojang.
Check out the Fantasy City Build Challenge - it's pretty amazing!
What? No, they simply reserve a right to add the feature to the game, and they have NEVER taken a mod without asking the creator and crediting them.
