I built a 2x2 piston hidden door using a video on youtube (so its not my design). I don't understand how one of the pistons is being powered despite the fact that there's no redstone power going to it. I'm not sure if its a bug of sorts or if its a redstone mechanic I'm unaware of. Here's pictures of the build/piston. I've tried stacking two pistons on top of each other and wiring it the same but when its separate from the hidden door build it only powers the top which only adds to my confusion. If you can help me sort it out it'd very appreciated.
when you power a piston diagonally, it turns into a bud switch (when a block is updated next to that piston, it will extend)
Hmm I think that may be what it is because the bottom piston in question has a slightly laggy or "choppy" movement as opposed to the smoother movement from the rest. How do you make it from from normal to a bud switch?
Unfortunately, I think Xbox Minecraft is different from real PC minecraft, so things you see on youtube might not work the same.
Also, while people have done some pretty cool tricks with BUD switches, it's the kind of thing that could stop working - or work differently - with any update. It's not a supported feature.
So your best bet might be to experiment and work out your own Xbox design. Then share it.

As far as I know there's not difference between the xbox version and the 1.7.3 of the pc beta other than we may have a few small features ahead of time (I think we have the updated lighting from 1.8). I think I will go ahead and change my setup as I don't want to rely on a mechanic that I don't understand and is more of a bug. Thanks for the replies!
Yea, that's my feeling. I would like to have automatic lights, that come on at sunset. But the only design I have ever seen relies on a BUD, and I just don't trust them to work reliably, every time, even after the next update. A light sensor would be a nice addition to MC.

Also, not many of us still play Minecraft beta.
you can set uo an enclosed container for a vilager with two pressure plates one inside the door and one outside but have him shut in on the outside then run the power to an r-s nor latch make a few side by side sp the first one to come out changes the power(they tend to go in quickly but take time to come out which is why you want multiple to have an accurate daytime reading) to daytime
on topic you have created a bud switch what i would suggest doing is powering the pistons from behind with a repeater on a block ao it runs at the height of the second piston almost at the bottom with a block before both pistons it should power them if you can get the redstone back there(idk how used the area is and if that spot already has something)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
im too lazy to tink of something better to put here so i will put this. cheesefingerchickenpizzalemon wow why are you still reading this is is not amazing, not special, not all that original or even cool?
I'm playing on xbox which is at 1.7.3 beta.
My understanding of redstone is limited to the basic concepts and logic gates. I don't know what a bud switch, so idk if that's it.
