The whole sideways thing is okay, but it's not done right. Why can't they make it like stairs used to be, where it was determined by wether you were aiming at a top or side? If part of the trunk of one of my trees gets blown up, there's always at least two blocks I can't put back right, because it puts the wood sideways, even though I'm aiming at the block below it. I have to either dig down next to it, or build up, which can't always be done in my tree village.
Has anyone else been annoyed by this?

I blame Minecraft for the letters on my W, A, S, & D keys being completely gone.
I really dislike it. There is nothing more for me to say, it just tends to get in my way.

Yea, I noticed this immediately when trying to rebuild my log cabin. They seemed to make the new 'sideway log' the new 'default' log, so now you have to go out of your way to place a normal log. I would prefer if they made like stairs as you said, or to make it so the log goes on its side when you place it on the SIDE of a block
oh crap i need to place down this log for a contraption *place* WRONG WAY *place* UGH THIS SHOULD BE SO HARD *place*... goes and jump and places it *CORRECT PLACE* -.-
Make it like stairs Jeb!!! Do it!! It is great that it is in, but i agree, it is an absolute pain in the ass.

Its amazing, I'm really happy they added it. I will say it can be annoying with the placement, but its no big deal. And if you don't like the log update, you obviously have no creativity. Because the things you can make with that just goes through the roof. As a realistic builder, I can make my homes and buildings so much better.

To correct you, you don't have to go "out of your way" to place a normal log, you just have to jump up to place it, not that much of a big deal.
Granted you have to make sure there's nothing above it (For example if your using it as decoration for walls), but the method for placing logs sideways is pretty easy - once you get used to it. It just might take time for some to get used to the method, other than that, there's nothing wrong with the sytem. A better style might be perhaps with the way stairs are placed as others mentioned, but this method does work.

I have 4 friends who also play minecraft. 3 of us love redstone and use a lot of pistons and all feel very comfortable with the way they implemented the log placement. The other two have never used a piston and don't like the new log placement. I think it is just something you get use to with time.
I like it. It's almost like they added a new block.
IT'S LIKE A WHOLE NEW GAME :DDDDDDDDDD
I personally like the new addition. Makes it feel... I don't know how to explain it. Maybe it's more explainable through my newly updated cabin.. with sideways logs.
Yeah, I totally agree with you on this. I love the feature, as it adds so much more to my medieval timber-frame houses in terms of horizontal and vertical beams. But the way they get placed is so touchy. Like, even in multiplayer, sometimes the lag can be so bad that even when I'm jump placing the wood in order to make it face upright, it will face sideways, regardless of the fact that I'm looking as far down as possible when I play it. There should be a post-placement rotation option where if you right-click on it with a bare hand, it scrolls through all the possible facings.
I agree that wood should be easier to place "upright". A creeper blew out a wall of a default villager's house, and what used to be an easy fix to replace the "shutters" beside the windows is now quite an ordeal.
With regard to the suggestion that wood should work like stairs, I agree to a point, but I don't like how placing stairs "straight on" now places them upsidedown. Stairs should only face upsidedown when I'm attaching them to the underside of another block.
How would making it like stairs be less annoying? What if I wanted to make a platform out of upward facing logs over an ocean? I would have to go to the bottom of the ocean and stack upwards. Or a sky island?
Has anyone else been annoyed by this?
I am ninja'd far too often.
Also, if your tree gets blown up, chop it and plant a sapling.
kekkiest kek ever kekked
I made a timber yard with sideways logs, ladders, and rails. It looks really nice
