I don't know if this is an issue with the 1.3 update or my actual Minecraft client, but every time I go through my portal (nether) it go through and everything’s fine but when I come back through it doesn’t take me to my original portal it takes me to a new one about 1000 blocks away
any ideas on what’s happening here?
I only made one portal as its a survival world, so i made my portal went through and came back through the porta that i came through and u got taken somewhere else i only made one portal.....
Sometimes portals do not get placed in the correct spot. I would consider the 2nd overworld portal to be the true linking location for the portal in the nether. What you should do is take the coordinates of all three portals, get the difference in distance for the two overworld portals (make sure you are keeping track of direction as well), divide that difference by 8 (to account for the size difference of the Nether), and then move that distance from your Nether portal, creating a new portal at the final spot. That should stop it from going to the incorrect portal once you go back out of the Nether.
Odd... this hasn't happened to me. To clarify, you're saying you built a portal in the overworld, you went in the Nether, and came out the Nether's portal, and spawned in the middle of nowhere?
I remember this happening back in Beta 1.3, but that is really strange.
The only problem I have with the 1.3.1/ 1.3.2 Nether is EXTREME lag due to initial entry in the Nether, and random game freezing when walking to newer areas. I suppose both of these are due to some kind of glitchy chunk loading.
This happens because often, when creating a new portal in the Nether, the game has to go a long way to find a valid location. Sometimes, it has to go so far that it can't connect to the original anymore, and will create a new one for the return trip. Mojang considers this preferable to exiting your portal in the middle of solid Netherrack, or having the unconnected portal not allow you to return. I personally don't see the big problem with solid Netherrack, it's pretty easy to break even without tools, but that's just me...

Same problem has happened to me.
I have taken down both overworld portals and rebuilt the portal I want to use but when I come back from the nether it creates that 2nd portal again.
It is annoying.

That which does not kill me... has made a tactical error!
Why? Why do we get this same damn question every damn week? I thought about just making the answer a text file so I could copy and paste it every damn week, but wouldn't it be awesome if we had a wiki? That way people could just go there and read how portals work!

Oh. Wait. What's that "wiki" button up there?
I read every word on the Nether_Portal Wiki page and nothing explained the situation I had so that isn't really helpful. That's the only reason I landed on this thread.

I feel your pain. I usually search my old posts and copy and paste the answer.
Just take a deep breath. Put on some , massage your temples, and try to relax.

Your video gave me nothing but an error. But I was listening to George Clinton earlier, so life is good.
Okay, OP, your problem is this.
When you activate your first portal, the game tries to put a portal in the Nether at (x/8, z/8). But usually, that's a bad spot - solid rack, lava, whatever. So the game searches around and finds a good place to spawn it, which could be 100 blocks away, or more.
But on the return trip, you're off by 800 blocks (for example,) so the game doesn't notice your portal, and it makes a new one abover ground - or even in a cave.
The solution is to note the coordinates of your portal. Then go to the Nether and destroy the free portal. Go to exactly (x/8, z/8), even if you have to dig a tunnel. Build a portal there and it will work perfectly, and it's ghast-proof too.

Fixed it. Sorry about that. Seems I didn't copy the entire URL.

You clearly have never heard of trapped portals. They're trapped because you can't mine when you're in a portal, and if it was surrounded by netherrack you couldn't leave.
Absolutely. Music is music. Why does the source matter?

Although this is't my thread.. I'm having the issue but I've been through the portal and back probably 20 times before it occurred. Any idea?
