There's just something about the smooth stone brick and the winding corridors in strongholds. IMO, their randomness makes for a better atmosphere for a dark lair than and imposed randomness a player can build. Anyone made a stronghold into their main base?
I would like to do that and actually tried, but every stronghold I found had either a HUGE ravine going right trough it or several abounded mine shafts, so it wouldn't look to good and there would be to much to fix to bother.
If someone had a seed with a entrance on the surface and no ravines and mine shafts, please post here or even better, write me a private message.
I'm in the processor building a nether gate from my house to a nether gate in a stronghold. You would travel through the nether about 200 blocks to get to the nether gate that takes you to the stronghold. I still need to finish construction of my main base and then the rail station that takes you through the nether in a glass tunnel.
A stronghold would make an epic base, but unless you stumble upon it by chance, chances are by the time you get around to finding it, you have a largely self-sufficient house/fortress of your own with so much time, effort, and loot in it that it would be hard to move out. At least that's my opinion.
