Write on this thread in which way you mine. It can be: Strip Mining (Mining in tall tunnels 2 blocks from the next tunnel.) Branch Mining (Making a base and making multiple strip mines.) Caving (Looking for caves and mining the ores in the caves (and any other ores you find along the way).) Shafting (Making long tunnels and not mining in the sides of the tunnel.) TNT Mining (Blowing up TNT and exploring the hole.) (or a totally new way!)
The main "branch" is 8 blocks wide and 4 blocks high. On the wall, I dig a shaft every third block. Each shaft goes up to 96 blocks before it stops. I might stop early if I hit lava or a cave.
Strip mining is a form of surface mining, where you excavate a strip of earth and dump it in the previous strip that is parallel to the current one, with your "strips" fully exposed to the sun.
Digging a series of inter-connected tunnels deep underground is called branch mining.
Stop calling it strip mining please. Apples are apples and should not be called oranges.
I drop a mineshaft straight down to level 12. This is the quickest way to get to diamond layer without deep caves. I know, I know lava right? Ah the trick is ladders torches and digging a ledge and placing a torch every three block drop. Also a stack of gravel or sand to drop into any caverns or ravines on the way down. And don't forget your bucket of water. So much quicker than digging a stairway.
I usually make underground mazes whe i'm bored, but most of the time when I go mining, I either branch mine, make a straight tunnel, or I just try to make a big room.
