came up with a new one. This one is a nice drowning trap where the criminal thinks the water elevator is the entrance to your house (you can always place a sign too). They go in and keep going down. They soon start running out of air so they might punch in a crevice for air, but since the walls are obsidian they die :]
= obsidian
= water

(repeat some time also)
You could also add a collection system too.
Another thing that isnt really trap related but can stop your wooden house from burning down.
= walls/wood
=water
With this setup, if a griefer tries to set your house on fire, the water in between the floors and walls prevents it from burning up, making your house fireproof.
Nice traps everyone. Now what techniques do you use to hide these traps in a PVP war server so that the opponent(s) will actually fall for them? Consider also the use of textures which lets a player see through walls.
I imagine putting pressure plates on spiral stairways is a good place since people are usually moving fast and turning too often to take notice of every detail.
generally this:
if you know how water belts work (making a track thats 8 blocks long with a water sauce at the start(u do nao)), do this on axis that will endup linking to the pit(mobtrap also) grass is great to spawn animals
= ladder
= lava
in 3d form lol its this V 5 wide
but the wood is obs on the 5 edges and the purple blockis water sauces on the edges,
make the bedrock air in the middle 3 rows encase all adjacent blocks as obsidian cause diagram is complicated
in the middles of the new 3 holes make a hole, now a tube at your feet, this is the goodies line :biggrin.gif:
derp.
under the ladders make a water block on both sides.
on the hole that is parallel to the goodies line stick water there too it makes them bo forward

Go on a snow world and build it near the surface where the snow will hide the wooden pressure plate or stone.
For a while, I have been toying with the idea of minefields.
Basically, minefields are large areas with hollow parts underneath them and pressure plates on top.
Your basic minefield would look like this:
[] []
(Where = stone pressure plate)
I've been testing this, but unfortunately, it has little effect, since the time the TNT takes to drop down and explode is in the neighborhood of 3 seconds, which is plenty of time for players to run away and escape any damage.
Mines also have a major fault. You see, when you walk over the EDGE of a mine, so that your body is on equal areas at the intersection of four blocks, the pressure plate can be triggered, but you don't fall.
In layman's words, you have to step entirely on a mine to drop down and be killed.
I have been experimenting with a design to fix this problem, but it's harder than one would think.
You've a pretty nice list going here, guys, so I'll give you a protip.
Protip:
Your objective when creating a trap is not to maim, burn, or kill. Your objective, literally, is to trap. In minecraft, killing does nothing but send a person back to spawn, where they can continue to destroy your items and slaughter your people. However, if you can trap them, and waste their time as they try to escape from say... a 64 deep obsidian walled water well... (not quite sure how you'd get them in there in the first place...) you can have them trapped for a long enough time that you can go destroy THEIR items and slaughter THEIR people [assuming you don't get caught in their traps]. Killing people for items is all well and good, but when it comes to trapping, your objective is to slow down the beastly invincible monster that is the minecraft avatar. I still wonder how he carries mountains around in his pockets.
Hellfire Missle [Proven]
Works great with Airships. Note you can fire one of these alone, but it's close. Best to do two.
One person hits the torch to release the payload, but someone has to arm the TnT at the top. It's easier to have water flow the TnT into the cylinder, then fire it at the ground. The water is there, because if you don't have it, you're going to have a lake of lava flowing everywhere. This way you get the bomb off and the water will turn the lava to stone. People will die from either, better to make sure. I am currently working on another method to fire it, I'll keep you posted.

Very good point.Going with that, I have a trap that might do the job:
This probably doesn't make sense in this diagram, but the basic idea is that up top a redstone circuit (the torch) will redirect the water at the flip of a switch from an escape room while the enemies are inside. The water (which will actually surround the whole room) will push the enemies towards the hole (which could actually be made by TNT blowing out cobblestone in front of the hole) and hopefully, if the enemy is surprised enough and/or under fire, then they will flow into the hole, which should quickly be covered by obsidian and then they will be trapped inside unless they have a diamond pick, which should hopefully be unlikely. They will then be out of commission until the million years it takes for them to punch through the blocks passes. This could be made even longer by making a self-repairing wall (also it would be funny if you put a mob spawner next to the pit just to freak them out :tongue.gif:)
P.S.
People have pointed this.
They have also suggested this as an alternate.

Doesn't seem to work, tried it and that blows everything up just like with sand... tried putting a torch in the hole like someone suggested, and the sand/gravel fell through that too unfortunateley.
Also, the mine/pit everyone's suggesting doesn't work if the victim is walking forwards, you tend to walk over it. whilst that's good for decoy door panels etc (aside from blowing up the door or having exposed dynamite) i'd suggest this as an improvement

you would do this in both directions so that any approach other than diagonal means a fall- obviously a shame you need more tnt though.
Serious kudos to someone who can figure out away to stop the sand/ gravel hitting the water in the same space as the tnt...
A trap in war is a mean to achieve the end result of victory, an incapitation trap will help you achieve that strategic goal by allowing you to continue an offense without an enemy defense and by disabling the enemy offense. And it is the ideal trap here because of what Val said.
A trap in other contexts isn't necessarily about strategy, it could be about just keeping those meddling kids from snooping in your warehouse. You aren't necessarily in it to burn and kill everyone else on the server, just to defend your turf from unwanted guests. killing may be ideal here in this context.

Umm, if this is unknown knowledge, I noticed a while ago that when sand/gravel falls on a half step, it becomes an item again, so when I make my traps with falling sand/gravel into lava I place the lava on top of half steps :smile.gif:
I have trapped many a griefer, and my brother, in this trap
with an iron door about 3 spaces away, so that they think the plate opens the door

A fun way to upset people. Granted, no drops usually.
Come from the top of the tree, and hollow out the leafs around the trunk. Then, surround the area the lava source will be with logs (otherwise you can see the lava through the leafs). It works well, and since the logs blend in, so unless you're looking for it you won't notice. Or, if you put it in a large tree, right about a log that you can destroy from the ground, there is no way to notice.
Here is a rough diagram.
