Hey all, recently me and my friend have found a pretty cool looking cave on a server and decided to decorate it, but ran out of ideas shortly afterwards. So, we ran here and we want your suggestions on what to build here!
The "green" look you have is good... why don't you take it further? Make a tree farm (yep, they'll grow), gardens, crops, flowers, running water, etc. Depending on the creative/story direction you want to go, you could carry on making it a full-on apocalypse bunker; a complete underground ecosystem capable of sustaining you in a post-Wither world.
Or, you know, you could use lots of Stone Brick, because everything looks good with Stone Bricks.
Make a large network of tunnels. Make a primary road to and from major establishments in the world, e.g., a 3x3 tunnel from a stronghold to the nearest ocean fortress. Don't just build it to complete it, store what you find in miniature checkpoints along the way. Then, add a minecart track and decorate segments of the tunnel so it will make you want to go from place to place!
Edit: Somehow, I forgot the word decorate. Decorate segments of the tunnel.

Ideas I would like to see in vanilla Minecraft: 1) A grinding machine — similar to a furnace, but breaks down items like a leather tunic into pieces of leather. 2) Recycling — the ability to smelt metal tools and pieces of armor back into their respective ingots. 3) A hammer — used to break down cobblestone into gravel, and gravel into sand. 4) A study — a work bench that takes an enchanted item and a plain book to extract enchantments at the cost of experience.
Oh wow, thanks for all the wonderful suggestions! Let me try to respond to all aof them...
Samsonguy920: That might actually be a good idea, we'll try it!
lukahna: A garden is a cool idea, but we want the cave to still be a cave. As you can see, there are parts of cobblestone and grass path (acting as dead grass) acting as an abandoned pathway, so the stone bricks won't do it.
DarkLordFK: Just maybe...
caHarkness: I think we'll do that, we had an idea for a mineshaft along the way aswell!
Skillettv2: Yep, as soon as we find a swamp with some slimes, we'll do that. =)
Once again, thanks for ALL the suggestions! I hope we can implement all of them in one form or another.
In one of my first single player games I ever played (years ago), I started my first house by tunneling into a mountain. It ended up being like a multi-level dwarven fortress, with windows in the face of the mountain.
Once, I also started up a fortress in Terraria halfway down the map in the stone. Doing something like that in Minecraft would be cool, although you could only appreciate it from the inside, lol.
A lot of times, I end up hollowing out the walls around lava pools at level 11, because I usually find ores, diamonds, and cool caves around there. Once, I built a cave fortress at the junction of three lava pools, with a long spiral staircase back up to my castle at the surface.
That cave is cool but you need some bigger areas. I suggest carving out a custom cavern with stalactites and stalagmites and building your main base in there? Stuff like that doesn't naturally generate in Minecraft but it should! We are way overdue for a cave generation update. Underground is pretty tame since ravines.
Add some viney decoration in areas too. You can mark doorways with a vine fall. They double as ladders too. Use string or insetting to keep it from spreading where you don't want it.
This is creative, but I am also working on some natural-looking caverns for a map project, just started this project, but I had the idea of creating a cave biome of sorts for my caverns. Maybe they will give you some inspiration. Post up pics of what you do!

Dana maybe a little podzol in the viney areas to depict moldering vine matter and in your first pic maybe a few block of the new magma block around the lava pool.
ooooo, Good idea! podzol and mycelium could both be used pretty well to simulate mouldering matter, lichen, or moss mats!
I also just remembering that the magma block stores light so I could use it for natural, tailored soft-lighting if I want to improve the viewability.

what do you think of this Rodabon! I went with your idea and took it a bit further to develop a cave-biome look. Podzol is a fungal mat. The magma blocks are used to simulate a lichen that grows near the heat and light of the lava. There are giant mushrooms. And sea lanterns are phosphorescent coral.

Looks amazing dana. I was just starting to dig out to do something like that before 1.9 came out but hadn't returned to it yet. I'll have to get back to work on it now.

Thanks in advance!
Make a miniature golf course. With lots of different obstacles.
In Minecraft, you stick your head in the dirt to find problems.

Why not making some type of evil underground lair? (Sorry, I don't have good Ideas about building)
Want a minecraft animation? just come and ask me! I'll do it for free!
Thanks to NovaPrimeXL for the avatar!

Make it a redstone based cave with hidden entrances, chests, etc.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

a good thing you can sectorize yor base. Try to dig 10X10 squares connected by 3x3 corridors so you can put your base fixed and ordered.

Just make your cave exactly like ethos and you'll be good.
