Notch NEVER, EVER expected the game to make it this far. EVER. He was not prepared for this. The game is meant to be the way it is and it's not meant to have huge communities and a bunch of challenging game mechanics. Had Minecraft stayed smaller, it may have stopped developing two years ago or have nothing that we have now.
If you are too damn lazy to consult a wiki that can load in a couple seconds and is easy to navigate, to hell with you, then! Have you ever noticed that almost every game needs some kind of community consultation? Have you ever played any FPS, RTS, or Adventure games and had to look up a walkthrough? Have you ever had to take a look at what the community is doing to get an advantage in the game? Frankly, if you say no, you're bullshitting me.
The difficulties? What's wrong with them? There's not many ways to make a sandbox game more challenging. Especially one like Minecraft. You're asking too much, once again. Difficulty lies herein with crafting difficulties, finding ores, etc. Now, it has been suggested previously that individual worlds have their own permanent difficulty. This could add up to a lot more things adding to the difficulty levels. Again, this is what Hardcore is for. If the game is too ****ing easy, play Hardcore.
Mobs being a "nuisance"? There are 3 difficulties. Easy, Medium, Hard. Play hard, it's not so easy anymore. Go play Hardcore. It's not so easy anymore.
The terrain does have issues, no doubting that. The terrain is being tweaked or so I have heard.
Lack of equipment choice... There are many, many mods out there. If you don't like mods, you're asking for too much. I'll say it again: Notch NEVER expected this game to make it this far. There were never any plans for new equipment. I do agree that there should be more, but the fact that you're ranting about it instead of calmly suggesting that there be more kind of pisses me off.
Smart moving? No. That mod is awful. It's not Minecraft's playstyle. It's not how Minecraft was meant to be. This is like asking for crazy moves in Super Mario Bros.
The community is terrible. Yes, I agree. You are no help. The worst part of the community are the people who cannot just ignore it and move along. The worst part are the people who continuously ***** about how awful the community is. NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, the community is going to suck ass For you to complain about the community and suggesting how to "fix" it is completely unfair. There is no way to FIX a community.
You need to get out, get some fresh air and leave the Minecraft community. If the game is not up to your standards, that is your own problem. You are entitled to your opinion, but what you are doing here is ********. It is unfair that you think you can ***** about the game and expect everyone to agree with you just because you know how to write a goddamned paragraph with nice formatting.
Minecraft is up to my standards, if not above. It is a fantastic game, and like all other games, has its own faults and things that could be fixed. You can't sit here and say that Minecraft is the only game with faults as such, as many other games do. Why don't you go ***** at them? I don't like you here.
That last statement—I think you’ve missed the point of Peaceful. The point of mobs is to be dangerous, even a little spooky. Peaceful is about taking away the monsters.
Your Building-Based Survival is essentially the ‘Peaceful’ gametype we’ve proposed, where the player gathers all they want, builds how they please, and doesn’t encroach on Survival Mode.
But, I think you've missed the part where, as I said, I still want the mobs to be in there. I still like the challenges that they give, I'm just one of the many, many people in the fanbase who don't feel that the combat is the point of the game. That's why I give the option for the two sides. One focused on combat, for people like you and Insurrection who focus on that, and one focused on gathering materials, stomping out the things in your way while you build up your civilization for people like myself (and all of us who have said Minecraft is about building) who see THAT as the point. I don't want a mode without fighting, I just want a mode where fighting's not the POINT of it. I also don't want that map-builder Creative mode. My plan would allow you combat-enthusiasts to have your mode (Survival), we civilization-builders to have ours (Civilization), specialty-map builders to have theirs (Creative), and all without the extreme option-clutter that his Creative-Survival hybrid would have.
I think Insurrection has pinpointed about nearly everything that is to dislike about the game and what is required to perfect it. Survival mode get's stagnant very quickly once you hit diamond and have been in the nether. Adding AI to mobs with increasing difficulty and special biome creeps would do alot for the game.
A little tip for OP, might want to get rid of all swearing, it looks unprofessional and honestly i pretty much skipped the part because of it. Even when you're right on certain points like the minecraft community being far too defensive about it's game. I think game fans are cancerous for the gaming industry, because they keep pushing the bar for what's ok lower and lower all the time, by supporting DLC or convinced their game is perfect and can't take critism.
Anyone who has the slightest amount of intelligence would realize that the MC community is absolute rubbish. They complain any time something new is added, yet at the same time, are ok with anything Mojang adds.
I'm getting a slight feeling of complaining in the formation of this topic, a lot of complaining about current status of the game, a lot of personal concepts based solely on opinion, and a tone of finger pointing rather than objectively asking for input for a general discussion of the players to see where their minds are, and then respectfully expressing your ideas as opinion and suggestion, rather than this being the way it must be.
You are entitled to opinions and you can express opinions, but seriously don't force it down people's throats.
OP should make a poll, that way those of us that are in the silent minority can show their support, and that way we can see a good representation of who is with OP, and who isn't.
1a: Yes, this I agree on 100% but take out the recipe book idea, it still is kind of a more robust wiki, I agree the game is musch more fun to play with without using the wiki, but you cant stop it. You can't stop the wiki or the people who use it and/or contribute to it.
2a: As for the difficulty nobody is forcing you to change it and mostly everyone I know only changes it while playing creative. Alot of players play SMP more than SSP so I don't see this needing to be changed because you can not change it on mulitplayer.
3a: Mobs aren't hard? Play on hard or hardcore then.
4a: Yes, the terrain needs to be changed. They aren't utilizing all the space they have made for themselves to make bigger mountains and such. The biome rewards is a great idea, the game doesn't give much motivation to go on an epic journey to a mushroom biome
other than for mycellium and mooshrooms. The game right now has almost no potions at all,I literally have 2 double chests filled with them on my server and ever so rarely do I find myself using speed potions, fire resistance potions, poisons, and other things of that sort.
5a: I agree with the more weapon choices but the game would feel too much like a mod and not everybody wants more weapon choices. Dividing armor into classes such as Medium, Light and Heavy would be great as it would add a whole new aspect to the PVP part of the game so I am 75% for 5a.
6a: A sprint key would be nice as double tapping W is extremely annoying.
7a: The community is fine and personally I feel like you are really only ranting because the game isn't 90% what you want.
As stated before by another person "7a:The community is terrible.
Every open community is terrible. If it is free to sign up for, it is terrible because people like that exist. In the age of the internet and anonymity, anyone can be a troll with no consequences. Go to YouTube, go to any forum, look on MinecraftForums. It's all the same."
You really can't change this. Also, this was posted to reddit and many of them do give objective criticism.
Honestly your arguement brings up valid points but I can't take alot of it seriously when you all caps rage 75% of the time. Our community is like alot of communities and you won't be able to change it. Mojang can't. Nobody can.
Yes! I agree with all of these. One thing you should add to the mob section- Mobs need to spawn in a more creative way. Nighttime is just boring when everything just "poofs" onto the surface. It's not interesting. It would be amazing to see mobs crawl up from the caves or out of the ocean!
Hey, OP, if you're still reading this let me tell you I agree 100% (not really, I like stone tools...) but, as you foresee, it won't help at all. The only hope is someone else sooner or later will take what works in Minecraft (crafting, breaking/placing blocks and procedural world) and redo all the rest; personally I'd invest up to 30 bucks in pre-purchasing a game with the characteristics you wish Minecraft had, and if you're a good coder I would seriously think about leaving Mojang alone and start doing the game Minecraft should (but never will) be.
Most of these changes are nice, but i think that some or maybe all of these changes should be implemented as mods and extra gamemodes. Also, if the game is broken why do people play it? I've seen a broken game here and there and minecraft is not one of them. This is a game that has grown through it's community. While it's community may differ in opinions, that only means that this is a very large community which happens to be very diverse, and as such some of these changes would not suit other people. There is no way you or anyone else can make minecraft universaly perfect for everyone. That concept is just a fact of life.
Wow, I agree with mostly everything here. I've been playing Minecraft since it's early development days (Alpha) and I can say it's just lost it's focus. Someone needs to bring these issues to Mojang's attention. This must be fixed!
I would love to play the survival scenario that you imagine, but I can see why a lot of the changes you talk about aren't in the game.
I think that Notch created the game out of pure passion, and now Jeb and the other developers are trying to give a reason to exist to all the features that were added.
Notch added cocoa beans and cookies, now they need to add a reasonable way to obtain them.
Notch added mindless mobs, now they are trying to diversify them and make them more challenging.
Notch added an enchanting system that made no sense, and now they have to redesign it.
Notch added villages and villagers, now they are adding a reason for them to exist (new ore and trade system).
Notch added a bland and meaningless boss fight, I'm sure they will tweak it sooner or later.
Meanwhile they are adding some candies like the tripwire hooks, but I feel like they are just still chasing version 1.0. They know they cannot add drastic changes until everything that is already in the game is "fixed", and that's why the Mod API is suck an important upcoming feature.
When everything feels right, I'm sure they will start adding stuff like new weapons or movements.

Which is completely correct. All this will/should be added after all the pointless/useless/glitched stuff is fixed.
But i feel like more movement is needed. Also, more weapons. FOR ****'S SAKE, BRO, WHY DOU YOU CAN'T FREAKING HAVE A RUNNING NICE ANIMATION? A FALLING ONE? A SWIMMING? HOLY ****, IF MODS CAN DO EET, JEB, DO EET BETTER.

If your upset about an open community, get off the ****ing internet.
Trolling and flaming is all the Internet contains, have you never been ANY other forum? They're all 99% mindless dribble and 1% constructive anything.
Also, on the Brony comment. Stop judging a group by a minority of its members or people who just put an MLP avatar on their account (Seriously, not everyone with a MLP avatar is a brony.)
Only thing I remotely agreed with was the Terrain generation, it's become so stagnant as of late.
Agreed. When I read about the community, I thought "Is this his first forum? Nothing ever gets done on forum pages."
Addressing 1a: Didn't Notch/Jeb say they *wanted* it to be like that? So the community worked together for info? Not just handing the player all the secrets of the universe.
I'm completely fine with all the aspects of Minecraft. I've played since Alpha and it's all good to me. I like the mobs, the difficulty, and everything else. And to top it all off, I'm not a fanboy. I do like the game a lot, and I would stand by any decision Mojang makes but if they put a stupid thing into the game, I wont blindly defend it.
you
And about 7a: I agree. But to him saying how they should change the Steve default character is...*utterly stupid* It doesn't make the game any better or worse.

I agree with this post completely, but that last section, 7b, just ruined this, due to how angry you acted.
You didn't need to insult bronies, insult Redditors, insult the devs, insult the community, none of that was needed, at all..
And insulting the people who went to Minecon.
They had a reason to go there, for fun. That there, is money well spent. If they were low on money, and lost their house to go there, now that's stupid. But no, not the people who HAD the money to.
I understand why you hate the community, but that's just taking it too far.
Notch NEVER, EVER expected the game to make it this far. EVER. He was not prepared for this. With regards to locking difficulty at world creation:
Minecraft is and always has been a sandbox game - there is no "end objective" you cannot win the war against the soviets, or rescue princess peach from the newest castle, it is, in other words limitless. In a limitless game, why would you limit the user? if you feel that you dont want to peaceful through a fortress, then dont. Nobody is going to "make" you change your difficulty. if its your own lack of willpower that stops you, then its your problem. not the games (Or its designers).
TL;DR: Some people dont want to change difficulty mid-save, they dont have to. some people want to, and wish to, if they get more fun from it that way, why would anyone want to stop them? Do you feel anything not done "your" way is the wrong way?
Notch NEVER, EVER expected the game to make it this far. EVER. He was not prepared for this. The game is meant to be the way it is and it's not meant to have huge communities and a bunch of challenging game mechanics. Had Minecraft stayed smaller, it may have stopped developing two years ago or have nothing that we have now.
And? How does this void his, or Mojang’s responsibility to the game? They made it, they should be obligated to improve it. Just because oh, you know, he’s a billionare who can hire literally the best in any field of game design to fix the game for him, does that exempt him from any obligation to his creation?
And yes, if people hadn’t poured millions upon millions into Notch’s wallet, he would have been just as lazy as he was now, and do nothing with the game.
That’s not the point in the slightest. It shouldn’t be absolutely necessary to go on a wiki to figure out how to break blocks—Or how to walk (CoughMinecraftGirlCough), for that matter.
The OP isn’t blindly hating on the use of Wikis, Strategy Guides, and Word-Of-Mouth advice in video games, nor is he ‘too lazy’ too—He just wants the game to be playable for newcomers without them having to trudge through youtube to figure out how to make their first pickaxe and how to place blocks.
If the game is tow****ing easy, play Hardcore.
I’m going to be a nicer than I should here:
-He explains nice and neatly why it’s broken in the OP, I suggest reading it.
-“Asking too much? Why exactly is he asking too much? He wants to make the game better, and they can do it—How is this ‘Asking too much’?
-Mobs exist, there’s more than ‘Crafting Difficulty’
-No that isn’t what hardcore mode is for. It’s a shitty, tacked-on option for a challenge run that needs to be changed.
-The OP has stated, and I can clearly say, the Hardcore mode is ****-easy and brings little to the table other than anooyances.
Mobs being a "nuisance"? There are 3 difficulties. Easy, Medium, Hard. Play hard, it's not so easy anymore. Go play Hardcore. It's not so easy anymore.
Except as I know from experience, and as the OP and several others have stated; the game is easier than beating a dead toddler, even on Hard, even with Hardcore mode on. These fixes would make the game much more legitimately difficult when the player wants it to be, without the help of the ‘Magic Button of Almost No Danger or Suspense’.
Again; instead of getting upset, I’ll just bullet-point this.
-Discussion isn’t about mods, WHICH SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED FOR THE GAME TO BE FIXING OBVIUS FAULTS AND IMPROVING GAME MECAHNICS OUT OF ****-TIER.
-Again, how is that ‘Asking too much’ of the trained development team whose paid to improve the game?
-What does the game’s popularity have to do with it’s quality?
-If he didn’t plan for more content in an unfinished game then there’s a problem, bucko.
-So you got upset about him ranting and started ranting? His attitude has nothing to do with him being correct.
Smart moving? No. That mod is awful. It's not Minecraft's playstyle. It's not how Minecraft was meant to be. This is like asking for crazy moves in Super Mario Bros.
Have you used Smart Move? Everything blends in nigh-perfectly with the game from the smooth animations to the fluid movement that feels like it should already be in the game. How is something that makes the game’s movement feel more complete a bad thing? And how is it ‘awful’ other than you simply saying it ‘Isn’t Minecraft’s Style’? What is ‘Minecraft’s Style’?
The community is terrible. Yes, I agree. You are no help. The worst part of the community are the people who cannot just ignore it and move along. The worst part are the people who continuously ***** about how awful the community is. NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, the community is going to suck ass For you to complain about the community and suggesting how to "fix" it is completely unfair. There is no way to FIX a community.
He’s making intelligent discussion, he’s helping.
And there are worse members of communities out there, trust me.
And he isn’t suggesting we ‘fix ‘ the community, he’s suggesting we stop listening to organized retardation like Reddit who suggest Mojang add in sprinkled cookies instead of fixing the game’s major faults.
Everyone does, quite frankly.
And it isn’t his problem, it’s everyone who can see the game is not what it could be, and instead of improving it, circlejerking to reddit, going half-way with any changes, and stagnating worse then a 3rd world nation’s water supply. It’s my problem, and anyone who can agree the game is flawed and could be better’s problem, because we don’t want to settle on shitty content that could be better.
Any yes, he’s entitled to his opinion, but this isn’t his opinion; he’s got evidence pointing to exactly what is wrong with the game, and how to fix it.
And he didn’t just ‘Wall of Text’ expecting people to agree with him and circlejerk to his ideas just because he wrote wordswordswords, if that were the case, Buckley’s comics would be popular. He wanted debate over how they could make the game better, even people to show him where he may be wrong on some accounts, but none have done the latter successfully—And when they do, he makes a point to agree with them and take their points into consideration on how to improve the game.
It is a fantastic game, and like all other games, has its own faults and things that could be fixed. You can't sit here and say that Minecraft is the only game with faults as such, as many other games do. Why don't you go ***** at them? I don't like you here.
We’ve never said it wasn’t a good game, simply that it has major flaws and a lot of epty potential.
And we might actually be bitching at them right now—Hell, welcome to /v/, where we don’t suck the developer’s **** and circlejerk like reddit and hate you and everything you stand for; all the while mercilessly picking apart the games you hate, love, and await. At least, when they’re on topic.
And I don’t like you here either, refusing to change.
I agree with most of your points, except the first one, the whole reason Minecraft grew so big was because people had to ask each other how to do things, and figure it out among themselves.
Also, the Minecraft community, albeit with a few exceptions, isn't terrible.
That it may have, but this game is claiming it’s fully released, and is charging full price when there isn’t so much as a recipe book or tutorial, New player shouldn’t be forced to find the wiki—Otherwise we have people like MinecraftChick who can’t walk in a videogame
What are you trying to prove with this? If you don't like it don't play it. Please don't say your giving the devs ideas either it was one whole aggressive rant about minecraft.
Since there’s that “UDLIDPI” argument again, I’ll take this one.
He’s trying to—No, he already has proven the game’s faults and how they could be improved. He’s given the devs more than ideas, this is more than just a rant, this is a man angry with stagnation and reddit circlejerkery rather than innovation, expansion, and fault-filling.

You are entitled to opinions and you can express opinions, but seriously don't force it down people's throats.
As stated before by another person "7a: The community is terrible.
Nobody can.
Playing Minecraft since Alpha 1.1.2_0
The morons may leave, but there would be a much better game.
EDIT:
Just read this response.
There would be a much better game, at the expense of a few morons leaving.
Also, this quote sums it up well.
Fix everything; add new.
Agreed. When I read about the community, I thought "Is this his first forum? Nothing ever gets done on forum pages."
And what the hell is wrong with MLP?
I'm completely fine with all the aspects of Minecraft. I've played since Alpha and it's all good to me. I like the mobs, the difficulty, and everything else. And to top it all off, I'm not a fanboy. I do like the game a lot, and I would stand by any decision Mojang makes but if they put a stupid thing into the game, I wont blindly defend it.
you
And about 7a: I agree. But to him saying how they should change the Steve default character is...*utterly stupid* It doesn't make the game any better or worse.
You, my friend, are a hero. +1ed.
Objection!
How so?
He’s making intelligent discussion, he’s helping.
And there are worse members of communities out there, trust me.
And he isn’t suggesting we ‘fix ‘ the community, he’s suggesting we stop listening to organized retardation like Reddit who suggest Mojang add in sprinkled cookies instead of fixing the game’s major faults.
Then you’ve got **** for standards, my friend. You’ve settled for sub-par content and reddit’s circlejerk in an obvious beta of a game.
That it may have, but this game is claiming it’s fully released, and is charging full price when there isn’t so much as a recipe book or tutorial, New player shouldn’t be forced to find the wiki—Otherwise we have people like MinecraftChick who can’t walk in a videogame
