That is a high score if I ever saw one! Get it? No... Yeah i'm terrible at this. My question is though, I played minecraft in 1.4.7 when i first joined if you recall. The caves in 1.10 seem exactly the same for me. Maybe because i'm really lucky, but I never got different amounts of ore.I might do something where I run through a 1.4.17 cave and a 1.10 cave with great tools on peaceful timed on the same seed (world gen changed so different look) and see which yields more. I'll see which one.
It is not so much how many ores there are, which are actually unchanged, cave systems in 1.6.4 and older versions are MUCH bigger, as I showed in an earlier post:
Near the center is a large - but far from the largest - 1.6.4 cave system:
Here is a massive network of caves and mineshafts in another part of my world:
Another area of the same world, which also shows a low-level view (below layer 20) to show just how incredibly dense some cave systems are; the cave near the upper left is located at -800, -1050, the seed is "-123775873255737467", if you want to see it for yourself:
By contrast, this is a large cave system in 1.7 or later, which I would even say is smaller than the average cave system in 1.6.4; all the other caves you see are more or less the norm:
Here is a large-scale (4000x4000 blocks) comparison of a 1.6.4 world (left) to a 1.7+ world (right); note that these do not include mineshafts, which are 2.5 times more common in 1.6.4 with one every 100 chunks (an area just 160x160 blocks - a mineshaft can extend up to 80 blocks from its center, or 160x160 blocks in size...); in both versions they become less common within 80 chunks/1280 blocks of the origin, down to none at 0, 0:
Here are some screenshots of what typical caves in 1.6.4 look like; as described here, "ridiculous and chaotic caverns and tunnels" is about right:
There are even occasional areas where sunlight reaches most of the way down to lava level without the aid of ravines; the footing is pretty tricky indeed:
A few caves I've found in other (non-Survival) worlds:
Seed "-7978171164721551672" at 1586, 1918; this cave is so dense that virtually all blocks have been obliterated in the lower layers, forming one of the largest open chambers and lava lakes I've seen outside of modded worlds, and even then that was because I added larger single caves:
Seed "2699338411478090165" at 2800, 1125; this cave is similar to the largest and densest cave in my world:
The seed "-6923329256941061233" spawns you right on top of this huge cave system:
Of course, all of these seeds will only work in 1.6.4 or earlier.
Actually, within a given cave system you may be able to average more ores per hour exploring a 1.7+ cave since they are less chaotic and you don't need to be as careful, either falling through holes in the floor or being ambushed by mobs coming from anywhere. My limited experience in 1.7+ suggests this is the case; one time I was able to mine the equivalent of 1,600 ores per hour, about double my average rate in 1.6.4 (partly due to a bug with mob spawning since 1.7.4 but I don't spend that much time fighting mobs, certainly less time than I spend mining ores; most of the time I spend is simply walking, with the same caves traversed several times; once to place torches and kill any mobs, back again to mine ores, then back the other way if it isn't a dead end). Zombie AI has also been nerfed since 1.6.4, where they can track you down from up to 100 blocks away, reduced to 55 and dependent on (regional) difficulty since 1.8 (this tells you why they were nerfed; I see that every night around villages; that's not a siege, which do not occur in 1.4.7-1.7.10).
You would need to be careful, unless you have perfected your parkour skilz (and awlso gwammer) and other things. I have no problems with chaotic caves.

Hmm... I must be really lucky then.
I'm curious, what is the seed for your world? I often see seeds for "huge" caves in the Seeds subforum but they are not actually that large, at least when compared to older versions; you can still find relatively large and dense caves but they are a far cry from what you got in older versions. Also, regional cave density varies more in 1.6.4 so it is possible that your 1.4.7 world (identical to 1.6.4) had an area of lower cave density where you explored (in fact, even at a 16 chunk radius, an area 512 blocks across, 1.6.4 can have fewer caves than a 1.7+ world). Here's an example of a 1.7+ seed with a large cave system, and while the same seed in 1.6.4 does not seem that different when the same areas are compared I easily found a much larger cave system nearby.

Hm... Are you asking about the seed for one of my possibly like 100 worlds in my save folder? Seriously, I have like 60 maps, 40 of my created worlds, and like 9 versions of modded and unmodded minecraft. I can't honestly say which of my worlds had small caves, and which have large. A few of em have small. So far, the cave I am in on my 1.10 world is pretty small, but it goes pretty deep pretty fast because it is a ravine cave. I have like 19 diamonds in 30 mins which is pretty good if I do say so myself.
I don't have a good number, since I have lost and deleted and got corrupted a number of my main worlds. In the main world I have currently, I have crafted approximately 456 torches and used even less that that. So let's just say 456 + lots.
I am using many things to compare. In 1.10.2 I went through 3 caves. I got 0 ABBA pts. ABBA pts are calculated by this: Coal: 0 Iron: 0 Lapis Lazuli/Redstone: 1 Gold: 3 Diamond: 5 Emerald: 7. I found 458 coal and 119 iron. I found 577 ore altogether.
Screenshots:
1.6.4:
In 1.6.4 I found 244 coal, 65 iron, 1 redstone, 10 lapis lazuli, and 12 gold. I got 47 ABBA pts, higher than 1.10. I used 2 caves, and I noticed that they went down faster. I got 332 ores, less than 1.10.
Screenshots:
In short, 1.6.4 gave me rarer materials, and 1.10.2 gave me more ore. I used a silk touch pick because I used ABBA rules, and you could get a splash of redstone or lapis, making luck be there unless I used a silk touch pick. The pick I used is efficiency IV, unbreaking III, and silk touch, and in 1.10.2 mending. Let me know if you want more info.

I've been playing since the release of 1.5 back in 2013, and I don't know how many torches I've placed/used in the time I've been playing, it could be in the millions but I don't know how many I've placed/used.
I mean, this isn't from the beginning of my 8 year old world, just when they brought in stats - and I'm pretty sure they've reset but:
Crafted: 7,740 times
Used: 27,568 times
Picked up: 34,844 times
I have lots of stacks of coal and torches in chests, you can never have too many. (Though I practically never use charcoal unless it's in conjunction with the datapack that let's me combine it to make ink)

Sine this thread has been revived I though I'd post an update; I've since nearly doubled the number of torches crafted/placed in my first world (+337736 crafted) and have crafted/placed more than 200000 (+210523 crafted) in two other worlds - a total of more than half a million; these three worlds are also my three most intensively played worlds in terms of caving:
From my first world:
From TMCWv4 (the second most of any world):
From my current world (the third most of any world), which is a "caving only" world which was originally intended to be a relatively short-lived recreation of an early world I had while working on the next update to TMCW (hence, these stats pretty much reflect my gameplay after the "end-game" in my "normal" worlds and show just how exclusively I play):
For comparison, I've mined around 1.2 million coal ore over the same period (450080 in my last two worlds and an estimated 790000 in my first world based on interpolation from the current 1.6 million). This means that around 1/8 of the coal that I've mined has gone to making torches (I only used Fortune for a short time in my first world and several early modded worlds; the ratio of coal ore mined/torches crafted is about 2.1 in my last two worlds and 2.35 in my first world; my modded worlds tend to be lower due to the larger caves).

On this world that I play on, I have used a lot of torches, 920 seems a lot on this world, but isn't as much as you have used, I'll update you guys at some point when I mine more coal and use more torches.
Here are the stats of torches that I have used
I have used 920 torches, this includes crafting, placing and breaking them, this isn't a lot, but I'll give you an update when I have more later.

You don't add together all the numbers - the first column is the number crafted (456) while the second is the number placed (431) and the last is the number mined (33); the strictest definition of "used" means the number placed while the number crafted would more accurately show the number you've placed in the world, which for my current world is very close to the actual number (I modded mineshafts to remove naturally generated torches or replace them with redstone torches so they don't show up on the renderings I do. Villages still have torches but the number is only a few dozen. Note that the "official" version of MCMap does not show the number of torches; I modded it so instead of printing out the location of each torch (probably debug code, which significantly slows it down on my worlds) it counts them and displays the total when done):
It would be impossible for me to calculate. There were no statistics being tracked way back in the yonder years of Alpha.
It's probably not an impressive number, just that I couldn't calculate it even if I wanted to.
Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.

This thread appears to be getting rather off-topic. Please keep the discussion related to how many torches you have used in Minecraft.

16yrs+ only
Funny you ask. I have no idea, I've lost stats some time ago during one of my experiments (backing up my world ever since).
But just today, I've crafted 72 stacks of them. Those things…I use them so much…

Hello
I recently started my new Hardcore world (Read: I started yesterday) and I used around 300-400 torches.
