Back in August last year I had a server which had the most amazing natural structure I've ever seen in Minecraft to this day and today I was reminded of it so I thought I'd try and find the file and get the seed, luckily I managed to find the save in an email so I copied the world into my saves folder and opened up the world and noted down the seed, however when I tried to start a new world with the seed and go to the co ordinates the structure wasn't there and only the biome was the same, is it possible to recover the world so it can be generated in 1.2?
The seed is the same, but if you try to regenerate it in 1.2, you'll get different terrain. Try using McNostalgia to downgrade to the version you created the world in. Before doing that, delete everything in that world file other than level.dat. Then rename the folder something like "World 1" (I don't remember what update added more worlds than that, so this is just to be safe). Then pick World 1 in the menu, and it should, from my understanding, generate the old terrain.
Thank you for the reply and link I downgraded to 1.7.3 and the structure was there but is it not possible to generate the same world in 1.2.5 with the new structures?

Nope, because the way terrain is generated has changed massively since 1.7.3. If you want the newer generated items since then, there may be a mod that does that, but I can't find one. I'll edit this post if I do. You can always switch back to 1.2.5 after generating that and structure will still be there.

*facepalm* The seed is always going to be the same but the generators changed in minecrafts developement. Thats why Glacier Gargamel etc dont work anymore.

if you want to learn about seeds or researched a bit before posting maybe he would know that the generators didnt stay the same since 1.3 to 1.2.5 and maybe he could of watched a video that had said for 1.7 or below and known the reason it says that -.-
Don't downgrade. Its possible to generate tholder worlds using NBXlite mod. You can choose the version you want to generate(Classic, indev, alpha 1.x.x beta 1.x.x) I think the one you want is 1.7.3
Just look up nbxlite mod to find it
You can use this to generate any of the older minecrafts terrain in 1.2.5

I fail to see why this warrants a facepalm.
