I consider it to be cheap to be afk at something, not cheating. That's why my experience farm is in the End. I always have so many Endermen building up that I can almost constantly be hitting something. If I "afk," then I reach the mob cap in about a minute and a half and my afking does nothing for me.
Also, I'm personally tired of dealing with spawners. I would much rather work with the dark room spawning stuff. It has many more variances to it. It's not fun to just copy a tried and true design.
Why would it be cheating? It's there in the game for a reason, no? Taking advantage of it just shows that you're a smarter player and making it easier on yourself to obtain items/enchantments.
In my oppinion, evevn using mob grinders at all is cheap. But I wouldnt call it cheating since you do not mixture with any gamefiles or take advantage of any bugs
I don't. While some may consider it cheap, it remains completely within the vanilla bounds of the game. Therefore, it's not cheaty.
I'd say it's even a stretch to call it cheap though. It does take quite a bit of time and resources to build an effective mob trap, and although the reward for completing one is massive, It's part of the game!
I don't see why it would be cheating. If you use the resources and time available to make one of those mob grinders, then being able to use it is your reward.
I have never thought of this, but now that I do.. No. If Notch thought it was cheating he would not have put it in. While I feel like EXP grinders might be a little bit cheap people spent a lot of resources to make the building so I still don't feel like its cheating. Unless it's something the game doesn't offer to you I don't feel like its very cheap. You spent time and resources to make it.
No i don't think it's cheating. But I like to play minecraft not just have it running, and if I forget about it the possiblity is there could get too many mobs building up until the game crashes and the world can get corrupted. I spent some days building a mob tower for my xp needs now, before I used a skellie spawner but that is so inefiecient compared to a good mob tower trap.
More importantly, does it,(siting afk at a mob grinder) make the game less fun? I'm going to have to say No. When you consider how long it takes to get to only 15 xp through normal gameplay, grinding a little, (afk or not) to get some xp is kind of expected by the game developers imo. Seriously, has anyone ever got to 50 xp through normal gameplay? The fun and interesting part is building the mob spawner/grinder right. That's what this game is all about, making things.
Cheating is breaking the rules.
In a singleplayergame, you make the rules, in a multiplayergame, either the community or the admins do.
Don't be bothered about cheating, but rather be bothered about maximizing the fun. (In a singleplayer game, your fun, in a multiplayergame, general fun, ofcourse)
I find it cheap to just sit their and get a million arrows. As the first post said, I have my XP farm is in the Nether or the End. Keeps me alert, not half paying attention.
I do it all the time for XP. Since I use a dungeon spawner you have to be around it, which I refuse to do unless I'm not playing.
Also, I'm personally tired of dealing with spawners. I would much rather work with the dark room spawning stuff. It has many more variances to it. It's not fun to just copy a tried and true design.

That's my two cents.
